स्वामी विवेकानंद आध्यात्मिक जगत् के ऐसे जाज्वल्यमान नक्षत्र हैं, जिन्होंने अपनी आभा से भारत ही नहीं, संपूर्ण विश्‍व को प्रकाशमान किया। वे मात्र संत-स्वामी ही नहीं थे, एक महान् देशभक्‍त, ओजस्वी वक्‍ता, अद्वितीय विचारक, लेखक और दरिद्र-नारायण के अनन्य सेवक थे। प्रसिद्ध लेखक रोम्याँ रोलाँ ने उनके बारे में कहा था—''उनके द्वितीय होने की कल्पना करना भी असंभव है। वे जहाँ भी गए, प्रथम रहे। हर कोई उनमें अपने नेता का दिग्दर्शन करता। वे ईश्‍वर के सच्चे प्रतिनिधि थे। सबको अपना बना लेना ही उनकी विशिष्‍टता थी।’ स्वामीजी ने मानवमात्र का आह्वन किया—''उठो, जागो, स्वयं जागकर औरों को जगाओ। अपने नर-जन्म को सफल करो और तब तक रुको नहीं, जब तक लक्ष्य प्राप्‍त न हो जाए।’ उनतालीस वर्ष के छोटे से जीवनकाल में स्वामी विवेकानंद जो काम कर गए, आनेवाली शताब्दियों तक वे मानव-पीढिय़ों का मार्गदर्शन करते रहेंगे। स्वामी विवेकानंद का चरित्र ऐसा है, जिससे प्रेरणा पाकर अनगिनत लोगों ने जीवन का सुपथ प्राप्‍त किया। भारतीय संस्कृति के उद‍्घोषक एवं मानवता के महान् पोषक स्वामी विवेकानंद और उनके जीवन-दर्शन को गहराई से जानने-समझने में सहायक क्रांतिकारी पुस्तक।
