डायनामाइट का आविष्कार करनेवाले 'पागल वैज्ञानिक' ने जब अपनी वसीयत में एक ऐसी संस्था स्थापित करने की बात कही, जिससे 'उन लोगों को पुरस्कार (राशि) बाँटे जाएँ, जिन्होंने मानव जाति के लिए अपनी सेवाएँ प्रदान की हों', तो यक़ीनन उनका सपना विश्व शान्ति ही था। लेकिन इसके बावजूद विवाद लगातार सामने आते रहे। सोवियत रूस की सरकार ने सखारोव को 'शान्ति पुरस्कार' दिए जाने का विरोध जताया, तो चीन ने दलाई लामा को पुरस्कार दिए जाने पर। फिर भी नोबेल पुरस्कारों की स्वीकार्यता या इनके महत्त्व को नकारा नहीं जा सकता। सौ वर्षों से भी अधिक समय से इन पुरस्कारों की निरन्तरता अपने-आपमें एक अद्भुत करिश्मा है।
'नोबेल पुरस्कार कोश' का उद्देश्य है नोबेल पुरस्कारों के सम्बन्ध में पाठकों को पर्याप्त और प्रामाणिक जानकारी उपलब्ध कराना। इस कोश में नोबेल पुरस्कारों के संस्थापक अल्फ़्रेड नोबेल की वसीयत के साथ ही उससे जुड़े विवादों व अन्य तथ्यों पर भी प्रकाश डाला गया है। रसायन व भौतिकी, साहित्य, चिकित्सा, शान्ति और अर्थशास्त्र के लिए दिए जानेवाले ‘नोबेल पुरस्कार’ के 1901 से 2016 तक के विजेताओं के नाम, परिचय के साथ पुरस्कार के मद्देनज़र उनके कार्य का विस्तृत ब्यौरा इस कोश में संकलित हैं। पुरस्कार विजेताओं की सूची के साथ ही पुरस्कृत संस्थाएँ, ‘नोबेल पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित महिलाएँ, दो बार पुरस्कार प्राप्त व्यक्तियों, एक ही परिवार के पुरस्कृत विजेताओं, मरणोपरान्त पुरस्कार प्राप्त करनेवालों, पुरस्कार लेने से मना करनेवालों इत्यादि की भी विस्तृत व प्रामाणिक जानकारी इस कोश में उपलब्ध कराई गई है।
इससे पहले ‘नोबेल पुरस्कार’ के बारे में इतनी अधिक और परिपूर्ण जानकारी देनेवाला कोई कोश हिन्दी में उपलब्ध नहीं था। इस दिशा में यह अपने-आपमें बहुत बड़ा प्रयास है। 116 वर्षों के अनूठे इतिहास को सँजोए यह कोश पाठकों के लिए संग्रहणीय है।
