स्वाधीन भारत का हिंदी साहित्य शीर्षक ग्रंथ, जिसका आलोच्य काल 1947-2010 है, हिंदी साहित्य की विविध प्रवृत्तियों और विधाओं का ऐतिहासिक तथा विश्लेषणात्मक अध्ययन प्रस्तुत करता है। यह एक ऐसा साहित्येतिहास ग्रंथ है जिसमें कोशिश की गई है कि उल्लेख्य योग्य सभी लेखकों एवं उनकी कृतियों का उल्लेख हो तथा महत्त्व के अनुसार उन लेखकों-कृतियों पर छोटी-बड़ी मूल्यांकपरक टिप्पणियाँ रहें। किसी प्रकार की व्यक्तिगत या विचारधारात्मक गुटबंदी से मुक्त होकर साहित्य का एक व्यापक समावेशी चित्र सामने आए, जो पाठकों, छात्रों और शोध-अध्येताओं के लिए उपयोगी हो।

कविता क्या है?—इस प्रश्न के उत्तर में कोई एक सर्वसम्मत परिभाषा दे पाना कठिन है। जैसे हर मनुष्य का अपना एक रूप, स्वभाव और अन्दाज़ होता है, वैसे ही हर भाषा और हर कविता का भी अपना रूप, स्वभाव और अन्दाज़ होता है। इसलिए कविता के बारे में कोई सर्वमान्य निष्कर्ष, कोई ऐसी कसौटी, जिस पर हर काल और हर भाषा की कविता शत-प्रतिशत खरी उतरे, प्रस्तुत करना, और भी कठिन हो जाता है।

अलग-अलग कालों में और अलग-अलग देशों में कविता के प्रतिमान भी बदलते रहे हैं। फिर भी, जिस प्रकार कुछ ऐसे सामान्य धर्म होते हैं जहाँ विविध आकृति-प्रकृति के मनुष्य मिलते हैं और मनुष्य के रूप में अपनी पहचान सुरक्षित रखते हैं, उसी प्रकार कविता के भी कुछ बुनियादी तत्त्व होते हैं जिनके कारण विविध कालों, विविध भाषाओं में लिखी गई विविध भंगिमाओं वाली कविताएँ कविता के एक विशिष्ट रूप में पहचान ली जाती हैं। कविता के इन्हीं बुनियादी लक्षणों की चर्चा इस पुस्तक में हुई है।

इस पुस्तक की सीमाओं में ज़्यादा विस्तार की गुंजाइश न थी। पाठक केवल संकेत ग्रहण करेंगे और मानवता की महान कविता-परम्परा और काव्य-चिन्तन के सूक्ष्म इतिहास में ख़ुद घुसने और उसमें फ़ुरसत से रमने की कोशिश करेंगे।

विश्वनाथप्रसाद तिवारी के वर्षों के सक्रिय कवि-कर्म के सफ़र को देखते हुए आज यह बात कही जा सकती है कि अपने समकालीनों के बीच रहते हुए भी उन्होंने अपने समकालीनों का अतिक्रमण किया। वे अपनी पीढ़ी के उन कवियों में शुमार हैं जिनके मितकथन और मितभाषा के प्रयोग सघन और ताक़तवर हैं, जो आज उनकी काव्योपलब्धि के रूप में रेखांकित किए जा सकते हैं।

विश्वनाथप्रसाद तिवारी के कवि-कर्म के सरोकारों की गहरी छानबीन की जाए तो उसकी मुख्य थीम में तीन प्रस्थान-बिन्दु चिह्नित होते हैं—स्वाधीनता, स्त्री-मुक्ति और मृत्यु-बोध। ग़ौर से देखें तो उनकी समूची काव्य-यात्रा इन तीन प्रस्थान-बिन्दुओं को लेकर गहन अनुसन्धान करती हैं। इन तीनों जीवन-दृष्टियों का बोध वे भारतीय अन्त:करण से करते हैं। स्त्री-अस्मिता की खोज उनके कवि-कर्म के बुनियादी सरोकारों में सबसे अहम है। उनकी कविता के घर में स्त्री के लिए जगह ही जगह है। उनकी दृष्टि में स्त्री के जितने विविध रूप हैं, वे सब सृष्टि के सृजनसंसार हैं।

उनके कवि की समूची संरचना देशज और स्थानीयता के भाव-बोध के साथ रची-बसी है, काव्यानुभूति से लेकर काव्य की बनावट तक। भोजपुरी अंचल में पले-पुसे और सयाने हुए विश्वनाथ के मनोलोक की पूरी संरचना भोजपुरी समाज के देशज आदमी की है। उनकी कविताओं में इस समाज का आदमी प्राय: विपत्ति में लाठी की तरह दन्न से तनकर निकल आता है।

Marathi has an unbroken literary tradition of over eight centuries, divided conveniently into two distinct periods, classical and modern. The Classical period spans six centuries, remarkable for poetry, devotional and heroic. Jnandev, Namdev, Eknath, Tukaram and Ramdas have become household names throughout India. While Virasaiva, Jain, and Muslim poets have enriched the secular and spiritual content, wandering minstrels have sung heroic ballads. New forms of literature have flowered from the nineteenth century under the impact of English education and western thought. The Chiplunkar, Apte, Anil Despande, Phadke, Khandekar, Mardhekar, Rege and Gadgil. Tracing the earliest reference to Maharashtra in a rock inscription of the fourth century, the history concludes with the formation of the state in 1960.

Indian English literature began as an interesting by-product of an eventful encounter in the late eighteenth cntury between a vigorous and enterprising Britain and a stagnant and chaotic India, and is now nealy twi hundred years old. It is literature written originally in English by authors Indian by birth, ancestry or nationality. It is no part of English literature any more than American literature or Australian lterature can be said to be branch of British literature. It is legitimatly a part of Indian literature, since its differntia is the expression in it of an Indian ethos.

The vitalityof Punjabi lietrature, its rootedness in its landscape, and its concern with the totality of human experience is evident everywhere in this volume. While it will be of undoubted value to the student of Punjabi literature, we also hope that its vitality and readability will make it attractive to other readers as well.

The Kashmiri short story was born with the progressive movement in Kashmir and its acceptted the standards and values dictated by the movement unquesioningly. Selected Readings of Sri Ramanuja: Sri Ramanujacharya is one of the three great acharyas whose Sahasramanotsava was recently celebrated with joy and grandeur. His efforts to uplift the poor and oppressed are remarkable. A literary digest of South Indian Languages.

The dialects and languages spoken by tribals in India are very large in number. The literary compositions in most of them have survived in oral form though some tribal languages have taken to writing as means of recording literary compositions. Conventionally, they have been perceived as mere anthropological curiosity, or at best a source for oral history. They have rarely been translated into English or an Indian language as a representation of tribal imagination. In order to meet the long felt need for brining out a systematic series of India's tribal literature, sahitya Akademi has established a project of Indian Literature in Tribal Languages and Oral Traditions.

Adorations of the Ancients offers a complete English translation of all 19 stories from Vaddaradhane in a single volume. These stories represent the earliest prose in 10th-century Halagannada. Initially, they seem to be highly religious, emphasising ethics and morality aligned with the Jain tradition. However, as creative works, they function on multiple levels: realistic, mythical, fantastic, quasi-historical, worldly, monarchical, economic, and socio-cultural. The characters are consistently portrayed within various economic classes and, interestingly, rarely within caste groups. Women characters are depicted as strong and decisive. This translation is based on R.L. Anantharamaiah’s edition of Shivakotyacharya’s Vaddaradhane. It aims to balance the limitations and scope of equivalents and approximations, making the reading experience enjoyable while maintaining scholarly interest.
