यशपाल की मान्यता थी कि भारतीय जनता की असली आज़ादी अंग्रेज़ी राज से मुक्ति तक सीमित नहीं है, असली आज़ादी सामन्ती मूल्यों, तत्त्वों और प्रवृत्तियों की समाप्ति तथा उभरते हुए पूँजीवाद के ख़ात्मे पर ही सम्भव है और इसके लिए उन्हें एक ऐसी विचारधारा की ज़रूरत महसूस होती थी जो इतिहास की संरचना को वैज्ञानिक ढंग से समझाने के साथ-साथ जनसाधारण को समग्र रूपान्तरण के लिए प्रेरित भी कर सके। मार्क्सवाद उनकी दृष्टि में ऐसी ही सम्पूर्ण विचारधारा थी और यह पुस्तक मार्क्सवाद की भारत के धुर आम आदमी को समझ में आने लायक़ उनकी व्याख्या है। इसमें समाजवादी विचारों की आवश्यकता और विकास-क्रम को सहज और सुबोध भाषा में इस प्रकार प्रस्तुत किया गया है कि साधारण शिक्षित जन भी उन विचारों को समझकर आत्मसात् कर सकें। यह पुस्तक उन लोगों के लिए उपयोगी है जो मार्क्सवाद को समझे बिना ही समाजवादी सपनों में खोए रहते हैं और उन लोगों के लिए एक चुनौती जो इसी तरह बिना उसे समझे, मार्क्सवाद का विरोध करते रहते हैं। मार्क्सवाद सम्बन्धी यशपाल के चिन्तन का निःसन्देह एक ऐतिहासिक सन्दर्भ भी है, लेकिन यह पुस्तक आज भी उतनी ही सार्थक और प्रासंगिक है जितनी अपने प्रकाशन के समय थी। मार्क्सवाद सम्बन्धी उनकी जानकारी और भारतीय समाज के जटिल यथार्थ की उनकी विश्वसनीय समझदारी के लिहाज़ से यह पुस्तक अप्रतिम है।

The sole aim of writing this book has been to rekindle the values of Kashmir that has been considered as the cradle of civilisation. The book aims at making the world know about the land of Kashmir that has been a prime contributor in extensively escalating Bharatiya culture across the globe. The book articulates about the reality of ancient Kashmir where people belonging to different sects lived peacefully and in co-existence. For centuries, education, culture and knowledge has been a matter of reverence and honour that has consequently produced great scientists, scholars and saints and has made Kashmir a melting pot of knowledge and wisdom. The book brings to light the invasions and forcible conversions that has led to genocide and seven recorded exoduses of Kashmiri Hindus. It also recommends some steps that government needs to take towards the dignified return of Kashmiri Hindus back into their homeland. Proud children of this land who carry with them the cultural heritage of Kashmir, its spiritual strength, urge for knowledge and search for truth, will be the harbingers of human hope. "जलियाँवाला बाग में हुआ नर-संहार इतिहास का अटूट अंग है। उस दिन हजारों निःशस्त्र भारतीयों का नृशंस रक्तपात हुआ। उसके बाद मार्शल लॉ आरोपित हुआ। यदि जलियाँवाला बाग कांड फाँसी के सदृश था तो उसके बाद का अध्याय कालापानी से कम नहीं था। वह कुकांड भारत के आधुनिक इतिहास का एक ऐसा प्रकरण है, जिसे सरलता से भुलाया नहीं जा सकता, भूलना भी नहीं चाहिए। कालापानी की तरह इसकी याद भी हमारी एक दुखनेवाली नस को निरंतर दबाती है। जलियाँवाला बाग नर-संहार तो एक विरला ही दुःख है। यद्यपि इस विषय पर अंग्रेजी में थोड़ा-बहुत लिखा गया है; परंतु हिंदी व प्रांतीय भाषाओं के लेखकों का ध्यान इस कांड से संबद्ध प्रकरणों अथवा उनके विवेचन की ओर शायद ही गया हो। किंतु हिंदी में पहली बार यह काम किया गया है। अंग्रेजों ने इस नर-संहार की घटना पर परदा डालने के जी-तोड़ प्रयत्न किए। और इसमें वे पूर्णतया असफल भी नहीं रहे। कालांतर में जो थोड़ा-बहुत लिखा गया, वह अंग्रेजी कलम से था। कई तथ्यों का पता स्वतंत्रता के दशकों पश्चात् लगा। उन्हीं तथ्यों को इस पुस्तक में समग्रता के साथ प्रस्तुत किया जा रहा है। पाठकगण इसमें दी गई अनेक उत्पीड़क एवं रोमांचकारी घटनाओं तथा विवरणों को चाव से पढ़कर उनमें निहित मर्म को विचारोत्पादक पाएँगे। "
