हमारे समाज में निचले तबक़े के लोगों के लिए कुछ भी ऐसा बाक़ी नहीं रहता जिसकी कोई अहमियत हो। यह इसलिए क्योंकि निर्णय वे लेते हैं जो समाज के ‘पिरामिड’ की चोटी पर विराजमान हैं। इसलिए यह पुस्तक उस पिरामिड को सीधा करने की कोशिश करती है। यह आधुनिकता की व्याख्या को भी बदलने का प्रयास करती है।
यह कहना यथेष्ट होगा कि यह पुस्तक उन लोगों के लिए है जो हमारे पूरे संसार की चिन्ता करते हैं, केवल शिक्षा-व्यवस्था की नहीं। यह एक ऐसे व्यक्ति के लम्बे अनुभव और विचारों को दर्शाती है जो शान्तिवाद की मुहिम में प्रत्यक्ष रूप से लगा हुआ था।

- Description: आचार्य हजारीप्रसाद द्विवेदी उन विरल रचनाकारों में हैं जिनकी कृतियाँ उनके जीवन–काल में ही क्लासिक बन जाती हैं । अपनी जन्मजात प्रतिभा के साथ उन्होंने शास्त्रों का अनुशीलन और जीवन को सम्पूर्ण भाव से जीने की साधना करके वह पारदर्शी दृष्टि प्राप्त की थी, जो किसी कथा को आर्ष–वाणी की प्रतिष्ठा देने में समर्थ होती है । जिस मनीषी ने हजारों साल से कायरता का पाठ दोहराती हुई जाति को ललकारकर कहा था । ‘‘सत्य के लिए किसी से भी न डरना, गुरु से भी नहीं, मंत्र से भी नहीं, लोक से भी नहीं, वेद से भी नहीं ।’’ वह कोई सामान्य कथाकार नहीं है । ऐसा उद्घोष कोई आर्षवक्ता ही कर सकता है । ग्रन्थावली के इस पहले खंड में द्विवेदीजी के दो उपन्यास बाणभट्ट की आत्मकथा और चारु चन्द्रलेख प्रस्तुत हैं । बाणभट्ट की आत्मकथा का कथानायक कोरा भावुक कवि नहीं, वरन् कर्मनिरत और संघर्षशील जीवन–योद्धा है । उसके लिए ‘शरीर केवल भार नहीं, मिट्टी का ढेला नहीं’, बल्कि उससे बड़ा है और उसके मन में ‘आर्यावर्त के उद्धार का निमित्त बनने’ की तीव्र बेचैनी है । चारु चन्द्रलेख में बारहवीं–तेरहवीं शताब्दी के उस काल का सर्जनात्मक पुनर्निर्माण करने का प्रयत्न है, जब सारा देश आन्तरिक कलह से जर्जर और तांत्रिक साधना के मोह में पथभ्रष्ट होकर समस्याओं का समाधान पारे और अभ्रक के खरल–संयोगों में खोज रहा था । द्विवेदीजी ने इसके विरुद्ध ज्ञान, इच्छा एवं क्रिया के त्रिकोणात्मक सामंजस्य तथा जनसाधारण की हिस्सेदारी पर बल दिया है, और उनकी इस स्थापना में अनायास ही आधुनिक युग मुखर हो उठता है ।

- Description: साहस, शौर्य, नेतृत्व, कर्मठता, वीरता, निर्भयता-किसी एक व्यक्ति में इन सबका समुच्चय होना कठिन होता है, लगभग दुर्लभ। परंतु भारत में शौर्य के प्रतीक हैं हमारे राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार श्री अजीत डोभाल। वह भारतीय पुलिस सेवा के सबसे सम्मानित अधिकारियों में से एक हैं। 'परम वीर चक्र' के बाद दूसरा सर्वोच्च वीरता पुरस्कार ' कीर्ति चक्र' पानेवाले पहले पुलिस अधिकारी हैं। उन्होंने अनेक कठिन और खतरों से भरे हुए ऑपरेशंस का सफल संचालन व नेतृत्व कर भारतवर्ष की अखंडता को अक्षुण्ण रखने में अप्रतिम योगदान दिया है। उन्होंने मिजोरम विद्रोह में एक फील्ड ऑपरेटिव के रूप में नाम कमाया, जहाँ उन्होंने विद्रोही नेता लालडेंगा को काबू किया। सन् 1989 में उन्होंने अमृतसर में स्वर्ण मंदिर से आतंकवादियों को निकालने के लिए ' ऑपरेशन ब्लैक थंडर' में पंजाब पुलिस एवं राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा गार्ड के साथ एक आई.बी. टीम का नेतृत्व किया। भारत में इसलामी आतंकवाद के खिलाफ महत्त्वपूर्ण अभियानों को उन्होंने दिशा दी और सन् 1993 में मुंबई बम धमाकों के बाद अंडरवर्ल्ड गैंगस्टर दाऊद इब्राहिम को पकड़ने के लिए बनाई गई टीम का नेतृत्व भी किया। 1999 में एयर इंडिया की फ्लाइट को अपहत करके कंधार लेकर गए आतंकियों से यात्रियों की रिहाई के लिए हुई वार्त्ता के भी वह हिस्सा रहे। सर्जिकल स्ट्राइक, डोकलाम विवाद, अनुच्छेद 370 हटने के बाद कश्मीर में हालात पर नियंत्रण, म्याँमार में सैन्य ऑपरेशन इत्यादि जैसे दर्जनों साहसिक अभियान उनके नाम हैं। राष्ट्र की सुरक्षा और सम्मान को सर्वोपरि माननेवाले, दृढ़ एवं कठोर निर्णय लेने में किंचित् न झिझकने वाले, अजीत डोभालजी की यह प्रेरक जीवनी उनके समर्पित राष्ट्र- जीवन की एक झलक मात्र है।
