- Description: This book by eminent journalist Aaku Srivastava, delves deep into the history of the politics of independent India with an aim to study the ups and downs of the regional parties arising with the contradictions and conflicts between the states against the ‘Centre’. These ‘contradictions’ first appeared in the early 1970s when local political forces in 7 to 8 states formed their own ‘united governments’ and offered localist alternatives to the ‘Centrist’ Congress policies. Linguistic and local cultural identities made this change possible. In the Centre too, two non-Congress parties and local parties formed governments. In the era of globalisation, this tendency of decentralisation became even more forceful and compelling. Perhaps that is why even now that Congress ‘centralism’ has been replaced by BJP, many localist identities keep clashing with BJP’s centralism as well. Aaku Srivastava critically examines the various dimensions of this fundamental contradiction of Indian politics. And they tell that this contradiction is due to ‘internal contradiction’ of our contemporary politics, which apparently appears to be a ‘curse for democracy’ but indirectly it seems to keep democracy alive. - Description: विचार आता है, सभी फूल अशोक जैसे क्यों नहीं बनाए सृष्टा ने? कौन सी विवशता के कारण कुटज की, कुटज जैसे उजाड़ में ही जन्मकर जीवन बिता देनेवालों की सृष्टि करनी पड़ी। इसलिए कि कुटज नहीं बनाए जाते तो अशोक की पहचान कैसे बनती? सर्जक की विवशता थी कि वह अशोक के आभिजात्य को दरशाने के लिए कुटज के बियाबान को रचता। बियाबानों की नियति ही है कि वे हरे-भरे उद्यानों को पहचान देने के लिए निर्मित कर दिए जाते हैं। कुटज और उसके जैसे फूल इसी विवशता की देन हैं और यह विवशता भी इसलिए है कि अशोक की सामथ्र्य के बूते पर ही सर्जक की सत्ता टिकी रहती है, इसलिए सृष्टा की विवशता का किरीट है कुटज। ठीक अशोक और कुटज की तरह मनुष्य भी गढऩे पड़े। सर्जक ने आरंभ में बनाए तो सभी मनुष्य एक जैसे, लेकिन समय के आगे बढऩे के साथ यह समानता स्वयं सृष्टा को भारी पड़ी। मनुष्य ने ही उसे विवश किया कि वह इस समानता में बदलाव लाए और परिणाम यह हुआ कि फिर मनुष्य भी अशोक और कुटज होने लगे। —इसी संग्रह से प्रसिद्ध ललित-निबंधकार श्री नर्मदा प्रसाद उपाध्याय के भाषाई लालित्य और भारतीय दृष्टि से समादृत निबंध, जो पाठकों के अंतस को छू जाएँगे और रससिक्त करेंगे। आवरण—अजंता की दूसरी गुफा की सीलिंग पर निर्मित भित्तिचित्र : पाँचवीं सदी।

- Description: शिवाजी महाराज ने एक पत्र में लिखा था—‘‘स्वयं भगवान् के ही मन में है कि हिंदवी-स्वराज्य निर्मित हो।’’ उस युवा वीरपुरुष ने क्रांतियुद्ध की पहल की। शिवाजी महाराज ने शालिवाहन संवत् 156७ (ई.स. 16४5) में अपने एक साथी के पास भेजे हुए पत्र में—स्वयं पर लगे इस आरोप का निषेध किया कि बीजापुर के शाह का प्रतिरोध कर उन्होंने राजद्रोह का पाप किया है। उन्होंने इस बात का स्मरण कराते हुए उच्च आदर्शों की भावना भी जाग्रत् की कि अपना एकनिष्ठ बंधन यदि किसी से है तो वह भगवान् से है, न कि किसी शाह- बादशाह से। उन्होंने उस पत्र में लिखा है— ‘‘आचार्य दादाजी कोंडदेव और अपने साथियों के साथ सह्याद्रि पर्वत के शृंग पर ईश्वर को साक्षी मानकर लक्ष्य प्राप्ति तक लड़ाई जारी रखने और हिंदुस्थान में ‘हिंदवी-स्वराज्य’ यानी हिंदू-पदपादशाही स्थापित करने की क्या आपने शपथ नहीं ली थी? स्वयं ईश्वर ने हमें यह यश प्रदान किया है और हिंदवी-स्वराज्य के निर्माण के रूप में वह हमारी मनीषा पूरी करनेवाला है। स्वयं भगवान् के ही मन में है कि यह राज्य प्रस्थापित हो।’’ शिवाजी महाराज की कलम से उतरे ‘हिंदवी-स्वराज’—इस शब्द मात्र से एक शताब्दी से भी अधिक समय तक जिस बेचैनी से महाराष्ट्र का जीवन तथा कर्तव्य निर्देशित हुआ और उसका आत्मस्वरूप जिस तरह से प्रकट हुआ, वैसा किसी अन्य से संभव नहीं था। मराठों की लड़ाई आरंभ से ही वैयक्तिक या विशिष्ट वर्ग की सीमित लड़ाई नहीं थी। हिंदूधर्म की रक्षा हेतु, विदेशी मुसलिम सत्ता का नामोनिशान मिटाने के लिए तथा स्वतंत्र और समर्थ हिंदवी-स्वराज्य स्थापित करने के लिए लड़ी गई वह संपूर्ण लड़ाई हिंदू लड़ाई थी।
