Malkani (1921-2003) achieved rare distinction and recognition in the world of journalism. It established itself as a fearless and uninhibited voice of the nation, relentlessly exposing the decay seeping into India’s body-politic by the early 1970s. In that respect ʻThe Motherland’sʼ advocacy of ʻIndia Firstʼ and its unalloyed articulation of India’s national interest remain unsurpassed. It was also its strident and uncompromising criticism of the Indira Congress and the Prime Minister’s ways, which eventually led Indira Gandhi to shut it down at the first given opportunity after she imposed the Emergency. ʻThe Motherlandʼ was, “The only paper in India to announce on 26th June the imposition of the Emergency, arrest of leaders and the wave of national shock.” This collection of K.R.Malkani’s columns in ʻThe Motherlandʼ offers an insight into Indian politics and society in the years just before Emergency was imposed by Indira Gandhi. It is a record of India’s political history a quarter century after independence and is a very useful reckoner for the general reader for understanding the years that led to the imposition of the Emergency.

- Description: बहुमुखी प्रतिभा की धनी एवं स्वतंत्रचेता मल्लिका आधुनिक हिन्दी साहित्य के आरम्भिक दिनों की एक महत्त्वपूर्ण, लेकिन उपेक्षित शख़्सियत हैं। अकसर उनका उल्लेख भारतेन्दु हरिश्चन्द्र की प्रेयसी (धर्मग्रहीता) और उनकी बौद्धिक सहायक के रूप में किया जाता है जबकि एक रचनाकार के रूप में उनकी स्वतंत्र पहचान को स्वीकार किया जाना और उनके योगदान का यथोचित मूल्यांकन अब भी शेष है। उन्होंने कई उपन्यास लिखे। गीतों और लेखों की रचना की। पत्रिकाओं के सम्पादन-प्रकाशन में महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई—बालाबोधिनी में उनकी भूमिका तो थी ही, रहस्य चन्द्रिका पत्रिका का भी उन्होंने स्वतंत्र रूप से प्रकाशन किया। यही नहीं, उन्होंने मल्लिका चन्द्र एंड कम्पनी चलाने की ज़िम्मेदारी का भी निर्वाह किया। सम्भवतः उन्नीसवीं सदी में लेखन करनेवाली हिन्दी-क्षेत्र की वह अकेली स्त्री हैं जो लेखन के साथ-साथ प्रकाशन-सम्पादन में सक्रिय दिखाई देती हैं। बांग्ला और हिन्दी के बीच अपने लेखन से एक सेतु बनाने का उनका प्रयास भी उल्लेखनीय है। इस परिप्रेक्ष्य में मल्लिका के योगदान का सम्यक् मूल्यांकन हिन्दी-क्षेत्र के पुरुष-केन्द्रित साहित्यिक-सांस्कृतिक इतिहास को दुरुस्त करने के लिए ज़रूरी है। वास्तव में मल्लिका के बिना न तो उन्नीसवीं सदी के कथित ‘हिन्दी नवजागरण’ की कहानी पूरी हो सकती है, न ही उस नवजागरण के प्रवर्तक भारतेन्दु हरिश्चन्द्र की। उम्मीद है, मल्लिका की समस्त उपलब्ध रचनाओं का यह प्रामाणिक संकलन इस ज़रूरत को पूरा करेगा।

But in our country, the First Education Policy was framed in 1968, 21 years after independence; the second policy was formulated in 1986; 34 years later, India got the National Educational Policy-2020 on 25th July, 2020. Besides these, certain commissions were also constituted for reforms in education, which made some good recommendations, but these could not be implemented for sheer want of political will. For an instance, the Kothari Commission in 1968, recommended 6 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for expenditure on education, which was also adopted by the Education Policy-1986, but this is yet to be translated into practice. If we ignore pre-colonial period, the Bharat of post-independence has not yet been able to determine the aim of education. Character building and moulding a human i.e. holistic development of personality should be the aim of education. Essays on related subjects are included in this book. To identify the issues and problems that plague the education, and their solution, we carried out basic but innovative experiments in schools, colleges and universities. - Description: पिछले कुछ समय से राजनीतिक मजबूरियों के कारण वामपंथी और तथाकथित धर्मनिरपेक्ष दल स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ की भूमिका के विषय में दुष्प्रचार कर रहे हैं और जनसेवा में इसके बेहतरीन रिकॉर्ड पर कीचड़ उछाल रहे हैं। यह पुस्तक हमें बताती है कि संघ अपने जन्म से ही स्वराज के प्रति समर्पित था। डॉ. हेडगेवार का जीवन और वह शपथ, जो स्वयंसेवक लेते थे, स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के प्रति समर्पण को स्पष्ट रूप से दिखाते हैं। इस स्वतंत्रता को स्वराज में बदलने के लिए भारत को अनुशासित और साहस रखनेवाले युवाओं की आवश्यकता थी, जो राष्ट्र के प्रति समर्पित हों। ब्रिटिश दस्तावेज स्पष्ट रूप से दिखाते हैं कि वे स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में संघ की बढ़ती ताकत को लेकर सतर्क थे। स्वतंत्रता का आंदोलन 15 अगस्त, 1947 को ‘ट्रिस्ट विद डेस्टिनी’ (भाग्य के साथ मुलाकात) से समाप्त नहीं हुआ, बल्कि शुरू हुआ अंतहीन अँधेरी रातों का भयावह सिलसिला, जब सुरक्षाबलों के अतिरिक्त सबसे संगठित बल के रूप में संघ के कार्यकर्ताओं ने तबाह हुई लाखों लोगों की जिंदगी से जो कुछ बचा सकते थे, उसके लिए अपने प्राणों को खतरे में डाला। यह फैसला भारत के लोगों और इतिहास को करना है कि साहस की ऐसी काररवाई देशभक्ति थी या सांप्रदायिक। लेखक अन्य तथ्यों पर प्रकाश डालते हैं, जिनके कारण हमें स्वतंत्रता मिली और यह रेखांकित करते हैं कि स्वाधीनता किसी एक आंदोलन या काररवाई का परिणाम नहीं थी, बल्कि एक लहर के साथ धीरे-धीरे बढ़ी, जिसका निर्माण भारत के महान् आध्यात्मिक गुरुओं के कारण शुरू हुए सांस्कृतिक पुनर्जागरण से हुआ था।
