Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam had an incredible passion for enlightening the youth and he made this process of interacting with young students, his lifetime mission, after surviving a helicopter crash landing at Ranchi. There were many questions that came to his mind, like: What type of understanding do the youth have towards development? Are they really concerned about the development and the future of India? How the Minds of youth can be enlightened? To address these questions and to understand the mind frame of children, he started with a resolution of meeting a million children which eventually turned out to be a historical achievement of meeting 150 million children, during his lifetime. His final moments, on the 27 of July 2015, was spent in front of the students of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong. The collection of some of Dr. Kalam’s speeches, presented in this book, are indeed a methodically developed tool, which educates people on how to discover their passions and uncover their potential. Through there speeches of Dr. Kalam, this book is a good teacher on various aspects such as, how to build ideal relationships that are key to a fulfilling life, and how to live satisfying, successful and passionate lives.

कृष्णा सोबती के लिए लेखक की पहचान एक साधारण नागरिक का बस थोड़ा-सा विशेष हो जाना है। समाज की मंथर लेकिन गहरी और शक्तिशाली धारा में अपनी क़ीमत पर पैर जमाकर खड़ा हुआ एक व्यक्ति जो जीवन को जीते हुए उसे देखने की कोशिश भी करता है। उनके अनुसार लेखक का काम अपनी अन्तरभाषा को चीन्हते और सँवारते हुए अज्ञात दूरियों को निकटताओं में ध्वनित करना है।

लेखक की इस पहचान को स्वयं उन्होंने जिस अकुंठ निष्ठा और मौन संकल्प के साथ जिया, उसके आयाम ऐतिहासिक हैं। उनका लेखक सिर्फ़ लिखता नहीं रहा, उसने अपनी सामाजिक, राजनैतिक और नागरिक ज़िम्मेदारियों का आविष्कार भी किया और लेखकीय अस्तित्व के सहज विस्तार के रूप में उन्हें स्थापित भी किया।

उन्होंने कई बार पुरस्कारों और सम्मानों को लेने से इनकार किया, क्योंकि वह उन्हें लेखक होने की हैसियत से ज़रूरी लगा। उन्होंने दशकों-दशक एक सम्पूर्ण रचना के अवतरण की धैर्यपूर्वक प्रतीक्षा की,  क्योंकि लेखक होने की उनकी अपनी कसौटी बहुत ऊँची और कठोर रही। लेखक के रूप में अपने युवा दिनों में ही उन्होंने अपने पहले और बड़े उपन्यास को एक प्रतिष्ठित प्रकाशक से छपाई के बीच में ही इसलिए वापस ले लिया कि उन्हें अपनी भाषा से खिलवाड़ स्वीकार नहीं था। उन्होंने जीवन के लगभग तीन दशक कॉपीराइट की सुरक्षा के लिए लोकप्रियता और राजनीतिक पहुँच की धनी ताक़तों से अकेले अदालती लड़ाई लड़ी।

और आज उन्हें अपने स्वास्थ्य से ज़्यादा चिन्ता इस बात की है कि सत्तर साल की आज़ादी के बाद देश फिर एक ख़तरनाक मोड़ पर है। वे रात-दिन सोचती हैं कि भेदभाव की राजनीति के चलते जैसे उन्हें 1947 में विभाजन की विभीषिका से गुज़रना पड़ा, कहीं आज की राजनीति वही समय आज के बच्चों के लिए न लौटा लाए! मौजूदा सरकार की राजनीतिक और वैचारिक संकीर्णताएँ उन्हें एक सात्त्विक क्रोध से भर देती हैं जिसमें पूरी सदी छटपटाती दिखाई पड़ती है।

इस पुस्तक में हमने उनके कुछ चुनिन्दा साक्षात्कारों को संकलित किया है जो अलग-अलग कालखंडों में अलग-अलग आयु और भिन्न अनुशासनों के लेखकों, पत्रकारों और विचारकों ने उनसे किए। पाठक इन्हें पढ़कर स्वयं महसूस करेगा कि साहित्य की, लेखक की और नागरिक की मुकम्मल तस्वीर कैसे बनती है।

‘सत्यजित राय : पथेर पांचाली और फ़िल्म जगत्’ यह पुस्तक ‘पथेर पांचाली’ जैसी कालजयी फ़िल्म के बहाने इस महान सिने-निर्देशक के कला-कर्म को जानने-समझने की सच्ची और गहरी कोशिश से पैदा हुई एक ऐसी कृति है, जिसे हिन्दी में एक नई शुरुआत की तरह देखा जा सकता है। इस पुस्तक को पढ़ना सिर्फ़ एक वैचारिक फ़िल्मी दस्तावेज़ से गुज़रना नहीं, बल्कि एक अनुभव-समृद्ध विवेकशील गाइड के साथ सत्यजित राय के रंगारंग कला-संसार के उन अनेक कोनों और गलियारों से गुज़रना है, जिन्हें बहुतों ने देखा नहीं और जिन्होंने देखा, वे लगभग भूल चुके हैं। अस्तु, यह कृति दोनों ही कार्यों को पूरा करती है—नए पाठकों को यहाँ एक महान कला-सर्जक से परिचित होने का सुख मिलेगा और पुरानों को अभिज्ञान का एक विलक्षण आनन्द।
