- Description: ‘मांडवी’ रामकथा की स्त्री-चरित्रों को लेकर संवेदनशील रही आशा प्रभात की लेखनी का नया पड़ाव है। इससे पहले वह ‘मैं जनकनन्दिनी’ और ‘उर्मिला’ लिख चुकी हैं। ‘मांडवी’ भरत की पत्नी थीं जिनके विषय में न तो रामकथा में बहुत विस्तार से कुछ आता है, न ही बाद के विद्वानों-साहित्यकारों ने उन पर कुछ ख़ास ध्यान दिया, जबकि राम-वनवास के दौरान उन्होंने सम्भवतः लक्ष्मण की पत्नी उर्मिला से भी ज़्यादा पीड़ा का वहन किया होगा। आशा प्रभात एक सजग लेखिका के रूप में यह ठीक ही प्रश्न उठाती हैं कि रामायण के पुरुष-पात्र जहाँ इतने पराक्रमी, प्रज्ञावान और गुणवान थे, तो फिर स्त्री-पात्र क्या इतने संवेदनहीन और प्रज्ञाशून्य थे कि उनकी मनस्थिति का विस्तृत चित्रण करना कवियों की अनिवार्य नहीं लगा। इसी से प्रेरित होकर उन्होंने सीता और उर्मिला के बाद अब मांडवी को अपना विषय बनाया जो दुर्भाग्य से उस कैकेयी की बहू भी थी जिसके चलते राम को वनवास हुआ और उनसे जुड़े तमाम पात्रों, ख़ासकर स्त्रियों को इतना कुछ झेलना पड़ा। यह उपन्यास एक पौराणिक चरित्र की भावभूमि का अन्वेषण करते हुए स्त्री-मात्र की व्यथा को समझने का प्रयत्न करता है, और रामकथा के महत्त्वपूर्ण लेकिन उपेक्षित चरित्र को, उसके पूरे व्यक्तित्व के साथ रेखांकित करता है।

This book describes the happenings in 15 days, before India got the Independence, in an interesting manner.
