- Description: ‘रामनगरी’ मराठी के सुपरिचित लेखक और लोकनाट्यकर्मी राम नगरकर का आत्मकथात्मक उपन्यास है। उपन्यास इन अर्थों में कि इसकी शैली उपन्यासधर्मी है और ‘आत्मकथात्मक’ इन अर्थों में कि इसके स्थान–काल–पात्र, सब वास्तविक हैं और ‘मैं’ अर्थात् ‘रामचन्द्र्या’ (बकौल बाप के ‘भड़वे’!) अर्थात् लेखक राम नगरकर के आसपास घूमते हैं। चूँकि इस उपन्यास के लेखक जाति से नाई हैं, और चूँकि यह ‘आत्मकथात्मक’ रचना है, इसलिए इसके पहले पृष्ठ से अन्तिम पृष्ठ तक एक ऐसे ‘हज्जाम’ की उपस्थिति पंक्ति–दर–पंक्ति महसूस होती रहती है, जो एक ओर तो सवर्ण समाज द्वारा पग–पग पर अपमानित–प्रताड़ित होता रहता है, और दूसरी ओर अपनी ‘कूढ़मग़ज़ी’ में क़ैद रहने को भी विवश है। लेकिन इस विरोधाभास के प्रति ‘रामनगरी’ के लेखक का रुख़ आत्मदया–प्रधान नहीं, बल्कि व्यंग्य–प्रधान है, और व्यंग्य भी इतना तीखा कि तेज़ चाकू की तरह चीरता चला जाए। बेबाकी इस हद तक कि जहाँ सारी हदें टूट जाएँ; मतलब, जहाँ मौक़ा मिला, ख़ुद को भी गिरफ़्त में लेने से बाज़ नहीं आए। इसके बावजूद, चूँकि इसके लेखक की मुख्य हिस्सेदारी लोक–नाटकों के क्षेत्र में रही है, इसलिए लोकरंजन की बात वे एक क्षण के लिए भी नहीं भूलते यानी चुटकी तो तिलमिला देनेवाली काटते हैं, लेकिन ‘उफ़’ नहीं करने देते और माहौल में ठहाके–ही–ठहाके गूँजते रहते हैं।

व्रत, पर्व और त्योहार यद्यपि ये तीनों उत्सव के भिन्न-भिन्न रूप हैं तथापि किसी-न-किसी रूप में इनमें परस्पर विचित्र समानता पायी जाती है। व्रत का विधान बहुधा आध्यात्मिक अथवा मानसिक शक्ति की प्राप्ति के लिए, चित्त अथवा आत्मा की शुद्धि के लिए, संकल्प-शक्ति की दृढ़ता के लिए, ईश्वर की भक्ति और श्रद्धा के विकास के लिए, वातावरण की पवित्रता के लिए, दूसरों पर अपने प्रभाव जमाने के लिए, अपने विचारों को उच्च एवं परिष्कृत करने के लिए तथा प्रकारान्तर से स्वास्थ्य की प्रगति के लिए किया जाता है। यद्यपि भारतीय विचारधारा में व्रत का सामान्य अर्थ व्रत अथवा उपवास ही है, तथापि कुछ ऐसे व्रत हैं जिनमें उपवास का स्थान गौण है और चित्त-शुद्धि अथवा आत्म-परिष्कृत का स्थान मुख्य है। पर्व किसी मुख्य तिथि अथवा ज्योतिष के अनुसार ग्रहों आदि के संयोग का ही दूसरा नाम है, जो किसी निर्दिष्ट समय पर आता है। पर्व का बीच-बीच में निर्दिष्ट अवधि पर आते रहते हैं जैसे कुम्भ पर्व आदि। आकाश के नक्षत्रों और ग्रहों की स्थिति के अनुसार इन पर्वों का धरती के जीवन पर भी गहरा प्रभाव पड़ता है। त्योहार एक सामान्य शब्द है। आजकल इसका प्रयोग व्रत और पर्व के लिए भी होने लगा है, किन्तु इसका तात्पर्य वस्तुत: लौकिक उत्सवों एवं समारोहों की तिथि से ही अधिक समीप है जैसे दशहरा, होली आदि।
व्रत दो प्रकार के होते हैं, ‘काम्य’ और ‘नित्य’। काम्य उन्हें कहते हैं जो किसी विशेष कामना को लेकर किये जाते हैं और नित्य वे हैं, जिनमें किसी कामना का समावेश नहीं होता, वरन् जो भक्ति और प्रेम के कारण आध्यात्मिक प्रेरणा से किये जाते हैं। निष्काम अथवा नि:स्वार्थ व्रत का ही स्थान ऊँचा होता है।
व्रत का सामान्य अर्थ आज ‘उपवास’ हो गया है। उपवास शब्द का अर्थ है दुर्गुणों एवं दोषों से बचकर आत्मा अथवा गुणों के साथ वास अर्थात् निवास। इन व्रतों अथवा पर्वों में हमारे देश के भिन्न-भिन्न मतावलम्बी लोगों के लिए अपनी-अपनी कुल-परम्परागत मान्यता के अनुसार चलने की पूरी सुविधाएँ प्रदान की गयी हैं। एक धर्म अथवा सम्प्रदाय के देवता का अन्य धर्म अथवा सम्प्रदाय में बड़ी उदारता एवं सहानुभूति के साथ चित्रण किया गया है। सनातन हिन्दू धर्म में तो इस व्यापक दृष्टिकोण का पदे-पदे परिचय मिलता है। भगवान् विष्णु के चौबीसों अवतारों में जैन धर्म के आदि प्रवर्तक भगवान् ऋषभदेव तथा बुद्ध धर्म के प्रतिष्ठापक भगवान् गौतम बुद्ध का भी गिनाया गया है और इनकी जयन्तियों तथा पुण्यकथाओं को सुनने-सुनाने का बड़ा माहात्म्य वर्णित है।
