वास्तव में संगीत के प्रसंग से पाण्डे ने इस किताब में सामाजिक-सांस्कृतिक इतिहास की उस दरार पर रोशनी डाली है, जिसका भरना अब तक बाक़ी है। उन्होंने बेहद आत्मीयता से तमाम प्रसंगों का उल्लेख किया है, जिससे पुस्तक ने अकादमिक विवेचना के बजाय एक दिलचस्प अनौपचारिक पाठ की शक्ल ले ली है। ज़ाहिर है, यह पाठक के दिल को छू लेती है।
