- Description: विगत कुछ वर्षों से शहीदे–आज़म भगतसिंह के बुत को अपनी–अपनी तरह तराशने की कोशिशें इतिहास, राजनीति और संस्कृति की दुनिया में हमें दिखाई पड़ीं। बुद्धिजीवियों और प्रगतिशीलों के मध्य भगतसिंह विमर्श का मुद्दा बने रहे। उनके अदालती बयान, आलेख, पत्र, निबन्ध, जेल नोटबुक उन्हें एक सचेत बौद्धिक क्रान्तिकारी बनाते हैं। वहीं दूसरी ओर उनका बेहद सक्रिय क्रान्तिकारी जीवन जिसकी शुरुआत उन्होंने 1925–26 से की थी और जिसका अन्त 23 मार्च, 1931 को लाहौर जेल में उनकी फाँसी से हुआ। अर्थात् कुल मिलाकर लगभग छह–सात वर्षों की तूफ़ानी ज़िन्दगी जहाँ वे काकोरी केस के रामप्रसाद बिस्मिल को फाँसीघर से छुड़ाने की ख़तरनाक योजना में अपनी प्रारम्भिक जद्दोजेहद करते दिखाई देते हैं। तब ‘बलवन्त सिंह’ नाम से उनकी इब्तदाई गतिविधियाँ जैसे भविष्य के गम्भीर क्रान्तिधर्मी की रिहर्सलें थीं। काकोरी की फाँसियों (1927) के पश्चात् भगतसिंह विचार की दुनिया में अद्भुत छलाँग लगाते हैं—अपने पूर्ववर्ती क्रान्तिकारी आन्दोलन को बहुत पीछे छोड़ते हुए। भगतसिंह के समस्त दस्तावेज़ों, अदालती बयानों, पत्रों, रेखाचित्रों, निबन्धों, जेल नोटबुक और उनके मूल्यांकन सम्बन्धी अभिलेखीय साक्ष्यों के बीच उनके साथियों के लिखे संस्मरणों की यह प्रथम कृति भगतसिंह से प्यार करनेवाले लोगों के हाथों में सौंपते हुए मुझे निश्चय ही बड़ी प्रसन्नता है। इन दुर्लभ स्मृतियों को सामने रखकर वे भगतसिंह के जीवन और उस युग के क्रान्तिकारी घटनाक्रम की एक स्पष्ट छवि निर्मित करने के साथ ही अपने समय के सवालों से टकराने के लिए आगे की अपनी क्रान्तिकारी भूमिका की भी खोजबीन कर सकेंगे, ऐसी आशा है।
