- Description: लोहिया, जेपी, किशन पटनायक, रामानन्द तिवारी, कर्पूरी ठाकुर वाली परम्परा के ही नेता हैं शिवानंद तिवारी। जितना लम्बा उनका राजनीतिक जीवन है आज की राजनीति में कम लोगों का है। वे गैर-कांग्रेसी, गैर-भाजपाई राजनीति करते रहे हैं और सन् पैंसठ के पहले से सक्रिय हैं। बाबा के नाम से विख्यात शिवानन्द जी के पास अनुभव, किस्सों और प्रत्यक्ष देखी घटनाओं का सम्भवत: सबसे बड़ा खजाना है। वे साठ के दशक के आखिर में शुरू हुए अंग्रेजी हटाओ आन्दोलन वाले दौर से सक्रिय रहे हैं और चौहत्तर के जेपी आन्दोलन के अगुआ लोगों में हैं। उन्होंने किशन पटनायक के साथ लोहिया विचार मंच और समता संगठन की राजनीति की और उनसे अलग होकर भी उनकी वैचारिक और व्यावहारिक राजनीति के पाठ से अलग नहीं हुए। इन भाषणों और टिप्पणियों से उनके चिन्तन का दायरा और दिशा झलकती है। साफ लगता है कि भूमंडलीकरण और साम्प्रदायिक राजनीति उनकी चिन्ता के केन्द्र में है। शिवानंद जी के इन भाषणों में किसानों की आत्महत्या, बुनकरों की भुखमरी और आत्महत्या, पेटेंट रीजीम से होने वाली मुश्किलों और उसकी कानूनी लड़ाई, असंगठित क्षेत्र के मजदूरों की स्थिति, अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जॉर्ज बुश द्वारा गरीबों का भोजन बढ़ाने से महँगाई आने के कुतर्क की आलोचना, किसानों के खेती छोड़ने पर टिप्पणी है। और इसमें से काफी चीजों के लिए नई आर्थिक नीतियों को दोषी बताया गया है। यह आलोचना सही थी और यह किताब का महत्त्व है क्योंकि भूमंडलीकरण के पूरे दौर में कहीं से संसद के अन्दर इन नीतियों की आलोचना नहीं हुई।

- Description: "श्रीलाल शुक्ल जितने बड़े व्यंग्यकार हैं, उतने ही सशक्त कहानीकार भी, जिनकी कहानियों का बिल्कुल अलग अंदाज है, जिनमें एक धीमा-धीमा व्यंग्य अकसर घुला-मिला होता है। इससे कहानी जो कुछ कहती है, उसके अलावा भी कई और दिशाएँ और आशय खुलते हैं, जिनमें जीवन की विसंगतियाँ, मनुष्य की भीतरी उधेड़बुन और न कही जा सकने वाली मानव-मन की गुत्थियाँ भी शामिल हैं। श्रीलाल शुक्ल ने गाँव हो या शहर, महानगरीय उच्च वर्ग का अहं हो या निचले और मेहनतकश वर्ग की गहरी तकलीफें, सबको बहुत पास से देखा और सबकी भीतर की सचाइयों पर उनकी पैनी नजर रखी। इसी से उनकी कहानियों में यथार्थ के इतने बहुविध रूप सामने आते हैं कि ताज्जुब होता है। और यही नहीं, श्रीलालजी की कहानियों में शिल्प के इतने रूप हैं कि आप कह सकते हैं कि अपनी हर कहानी में वे शिल्प की एक अलग काट और भाषा के अलग अंदाज के साथ उपस्थित हैं। यह क्षमता और कलात्मक सामर्थ्य बहुत कम कथाकारों में देखने को मिलती है। ‘छुट्टियाँ’ और ‘यह घर मेरा नहीं है’ में उनकी भाषा का जो रंग है, वही ‘लखनऊ’, ‘कुत्ते और कुत्ते’, ‘यहाँ से वहाँ’ या ‘नसीहतें’ कहानियों में नहीं है और ‘उमरावनगर में एक दिन’ कहानी में तो श्रीलालजी भाषा के खिलंदड़ेपन के साथ सचमुच एक नया ही शिल्प गढ़ते नजर आते हैं। सच तो यह है कि श्रीलाल शुक्ल के कहानीकार को ठीक-ठीक समझा ही नहीं गया। इस संचयन में उनकी कुल पंद्रह कहानियाँ शामिल हैं, जिनमें सभी का रंग और अंदाज अलग-अलग है और कोशिश रही है कि उनके कहानीकार का हर रंग और अंदाज पाठकों के आगे आए।
