- Description: यह एक विचित्र संयोग ही कहा जाएगा कि जिस अंचल में रहकर बीसवीं शताब्दी के उत्तरार्द्ध में गजानन माधव मुक्तिबोध जैसे आधुनिक चिन्तक-कवि ने अपने समय के खुरदुरे और अदम्य यथार्थ के लिए फंतासी की विधि का आविष्कार किया, उसी अंचल के ठाकुर जगमोहन सिंह ने उन्नीसवीं शताब्दी के अन्त के कुछ बरसों पहले एक पूरा उपन्यास ही फंतासी के रूप में लिखा। हिन्दी में यथार्थ के चित्रण की जो इकहरी परम्परा बाद में लगभग केन्द्रीय बन गई उसमें इस उत्तराधिकार का कोई बोध या स्मृति, दुर्भाग्य से, शेष नहीं है। उपन्यास की गल्पता को हिन्दी में इतनी जल्दी साध लिया गया था और उसे अपनी जातीय परम्परा के अनुकूल भी कर लिया गया था, यह जानना आज के स्मृतिवंचित दौर में रोमांचक है। इस अनोखे गद्य में मध्यकालीन कविता ‘स्वच्छन्द’ है : उस पर सचाई का व्यर्थ का बोझ नहीं है, बल्कि सपने की सहज प्रवाहमयता है। वह खिलता, स्पन्दित, कविसमयों में विन्यस्त ऐसा गद्य है कि विशेषत: आज तो सर्वथा अनन्य लगता है। ‘श्यामास्वप्न’ का पुनर्प्रकाशन सचमुच एक साहित्यिक घटना है। शायद इसका एक और साक्ष्य कि कैसे कई मायनों में उत्तर-आधुनिक हमारे यहाँ प्राक्-आधुनिक है। —अशोक वाजपेयी

- Description: ‘मुझे पहचानो’ परम्परा और संस्कृति को एक नई रोशनी में देखने वाला उपन्यास है। इसकी कथा एक ऐसी रियासत से शुरू होती है जिसके लिए सती जैसी नृशंस प्रथा सांस्कृतिक गौरव की हैसियत रखती है। इसके पात्र एक ऐसे समाज में साँस ले रहे हैं जिसमें समानता, स्वतंत्रता और बन्धुत्व जैसे मानवीय मूल्य आकाशकुसुम बने हुए हैं, लेकिन जिसका प्रभुवर्ग अपने कथित सांस्कृतिक गौरव को यथावत रखने के लिए शुचिता को एक अपरिहार्य आवश्यकता बनाकर थोपे हुए है। यह शुचिता है वर्ण की, वर्ग की और रक्त की। लैंगिक और यौन शुचिताएँ भी इसमें शामिल हैं। आश्चर्य नहीं कि पुरुष-वर्चस्व पर टिके इस समाज में सती-प्रथा को व्याधि नहीं, अपनी विशेषता समझा जाता है और उसका धार्मिक-सांस्कृतिक महिमामंडन किया जाता है। इस जड़ता की जड़ें इतने गहरे धँसी हैं कि अधिकतर स्त्रियाँ भी सती को श्रद्धा की निगाह से देखती हैं। यह उपन्यास इसी छद्म गौरवबोध को अनावृत करता है। पुरुष-सत्ता की चालाकियों और उससे उत्पन्न सामाजिक ठहराव को तोड़ते हुए इस उपन्यास की कथा धर्म और धन के घातक गठजोड़ को भी बहुत ठोस रूप में पाठकों के सामने रखती है। संजीव का कथा-लेखन समूचे हिन्दी कथा-संसार में विशिष्ट इसलिए है कि उनकी लेखनी अविचलित भाव से न सिर्फ समाज की कथा कहती है, बल्कि हमें एक वैज्ञानिक दृष्टि देते हुए तर्कों और तथ्यों से भी समृद्ध करती है।

- Description: Agnisakshi (meaning, With Fire As Witness) is a Malayalam novel written by Lalithambika Antharjanam. Originally serialised in Mathrubhumi Illustrated Weekly, it was published as a book by Current Books in 1976. It tells the story of a Nambudiri woman, who is drawn into the struggle for social and political emancipation but cannot easily shake off the chains of tradition that bind her. The novel was concerned with implied criticism of aspects of social structure and behaviour. Thethikutty (Devaki or Sumitarananda) is married to Unni Nambudiri of the well-known Brahmin family named Manampilly Illam. He is young, virtuous, and loving but too orthodox to be the husband of a woman with Thethikutty's views. Feeling frustrated, Thethikutty leaves him once and forever and reaches her paternal home. Unni lives the life of a piety, is branded as an eccentric and dies. Thethikutty, meanwhile, finds no peace anywhere. At last, in the Himalayas, she meets her old friend and Unni's half-sister, the sixty-year-old Mrs K.M.K. Nair (Thankam). She finds her unborn son in Mrs. Nair's son and hands over her wedding pendant to her daughter with the request to cherish it with due regard.

- Description: गाँव वाला अंग्रेजी स्कूल एक ऐसी पुस्तक है जिसमें बच्चों से लेकर बड़ों सबके लिए कुछ न कुछ है। एक ऐसी किताब जिसमें कोई बकवास न हो, जिसमें कठिन वाला इतिहास न हो और जिसे पढ़कर कोई उदास न हो। कोई ऐसी किताब जिसे पढ़कर शिक्षा मिले और पता भी न चले कि कुछ सिखाया गया है। जिसे पढ़कर हँसी छूटे और कोई न रूठे। यह पुस्तक गाँव और शहर के बच्चों की सोच को एक पुल प्रदान करती है। हम लोग पिज्जा, बर्गर, टॉयज के लिए अपने पैरेंट्स से डिमांड पर डिमांड किए जाते हैं और न पूरी होने पर मुँह फुलाकर बैठ जाते हैं। लेकिन विलेज के बच्चों को तो कई बार लंच ही नहीं मिल पाता, लंच मिल जाए तो डिनर मिलेगा कि नहीं ये उन्हें नहीं पता। हमारे पेंसिल बॉक्स की जितनी कॉस्ट होती है उतनी कॉस्ट में यहाँ के बच्चे साल भर की स्कूल कॉपीज खरीद लेते हैं। हम ब्रांडेड नोट बुक्स की डिमांड करते हैं और प्रमोद जैसे बच्चों के पास तो स्लीपर्स तक नहीं हैं। जब हम दीपावली पर क्रैकर्स के लिए जिद कर रहे होते हैं उस समय हमसे भी छोटे बच्चे मिट्टी के दिये बना रहे होते हैं ताकि उन्हें बेचकर त्योहार पर तो एक ही दिन में लंच और डिनर दोनों कर सकें। प्रांजल सक्सेना
