आधुनिक कुंभ पर्व का धार्मिक रूप से प्रचार-प्रसार आदिगुरु शंकराचार्य ने किया था। उन्होंने पर्व की शुरुआत धार्मिक मान्यताओं को बढ़ावा देने और हिंदुओं को अपनी सनातन संस्कृति की पहचान दिलाने के उद्देश्य से की थी। आज भी कुंभ पर्व मुख्यतः साधु-संत समाज का ही पर्व माना जाता है। वस्तुतः कुंभ पर्व सनातन है। अग्नि पुराण, गरुड़ पुराण, वराह पुराण, कूर्म पुराण, वामन पुराण, मत्स्य पुराण, ब्रह्मवैवर्त पुराण, पद्म पुराण, शिव पुराण, विष्णु पुराण, स्कंद पुराण, लिंग पुराण, हरिवंश पुराण, श्रीमद्भागवत, महाभारत, वाल्मीकि रामायण तथा अन्य प्राचीन ग्रंथों, जैसे ऋग्वेद, अथर्ववेद, शतपथ ब्राह्मण में वर्णित आख्यानों से कुंभ पर्व की प्राचीनता का अनुमान लगाया जा सकता है। गौतम बुद्ध ने नदियों के तट पर आयोजित कुंभ पर्व को ‘नदी पर्व’ कहा है। विष्णु पुराण के अनुसार—‘‘हजारों स्नान कार्तिक में, सैकड़ों स्नान माघ मास में किए हों तथा करोड़ों बार वैशाख में नर्मदा स्नान से जो पुण्य प्राप्त होता है, वही पुण्य एक बार कुंभ पर्व में स्नान करने से प्राप्त होता है।’’ —इसी पुस्तक से

Over 2,00,000 students appear in 5 days Services Selection Board interview process to become officers in Army, Navy, Airforce and Coast Guard every year. There are over 22 Selection Centres across the country which are involved in the conduct of SSB Interviews. This book is the compilation of questions contributed by students who attended the SSBs in the last two years. SSB interview procedure consists of a series of tests to gauge the leadership qualities (generally referred to as OLQs) of a candidate. These tests are conducted in three categories, Psychology Tests (TAT, WAT, SRT, SD), GTO tasks (GD, GPE, PGT, GOR, HGT, LECTURETTE, INDIVIDUAL OBSTACLES, CT, FGT) and Personal Interview. During the conduct of these tests candidates is put through many situations and asked various types of questions. SSB being a personality assessment there are no fixed solutions or responses to the questions/situations. The candidates remain in dilemma whether the answers they have given are right or wrong. Since last five years while I have been in AMAS lots of candidates have shared these questions and their predicaments over their answers. In this book I have tried to address these and give them guidelines as to how to attempt them in SSB. The answers may vary from person to person and each question can be answered in a number of ways. Wanderlust and the desire to know the land and society more had been fueling my wish to visit Kailas. There were many curiosities. All our major rivers have their source in the region. The largest reservoir of fresh water on earth is situated there. The celestial swans are found there. I recall that how in my childhood, my Grandmother used to describe Kailas as being akin to a dreamland. According to her, Shri Krishna has said in the Gita – Meruru shikhirinamaham – ‘Among mountains I am Kailas!’ It was Sage Mandhata who first set foot on this sacred soil. Adi Shankaracharya shed his mortal body here. Guru Nanak meditated here and Swaminarayana, the founder of the sect that bears his name, saw the vision of god here. The Ramayana and the Mahabharata mention Kailas. This is where Ravana had worshipped Lord Shiva. He wanted to take Kailas with him. Shiva guilefully dissuaded him from doing so. Arjuna performed penance here and received the Pashupata Astra from Shiva. Yudhishthir proceeded heavenwards via this route. One by one, all the family members fell by the roadside; only the faithful dog kept company. Bhasmasur, the Rakshas, a devotee of Shiva was reduced to cinders here. Today the dark shadow of civilisation has begun to fall even on Mansarovar. This lake is shrinking. The sacred water body, that once stretched across 410 square kilometres, is now shrunk to only 10 square kilometres. Consider this the rage of Nature. Had Kalidasa been alive, he would have been deeply saddened to see his beloved Himalaya in this state. Is it the same Himalaya that is described in Raghuvamsham and Kumar Sambhavam? Civilisation has reached a point where the divine dimensions of Himalaya are disturbed.

But in our country, the First Education Policy was framed in 1968, 21 years after independence; the second policy was formulated in 1986; 34 years later, India got the National Educational Policy-2020 on 25th July, 2020.
