Motivating Thoughts of Kalam
- Author Name:
Prashant Gupta
- Book Type:

- Description: A source of inspiration for every Indian, the country’s twelfth President, Abul Pakir Jainulabedin Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. His father, Jainulabedin, and mother, Aashiamma, were simple, religious-minded people and held an honourable place in society Dr. Kalam, besides being a capable scientist, an ideal teacher and an excellent writer, had a good knowledge of Indian classical music and played the violin too. He also loved gardening and, despite a very busy work schedule, he was regular with his morning walk, prayers and yoga. He believed we must keep ourselves busy every moment of the day in a meaningful way and, at the same time, take time off to enjoy the fragrance of blooming flowers or watch the myriad colours of the flitting butterflies. "Quotes by A. P. J. Abdul Kalam “You have to dream before your dreams can come true.” “A dream is not that which you see while sleeping, it is something that does not let you sleep.” “You should not give up and we should not allow the problem to defeat us.” “If you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun.” “All of us do not have equal talent. But, all of us have an equal opportunity to develop our talents.” “Man needs difficulties in life because they are necessary to enjoy success.’ “Don’t take rest after your first victory because if you fail in second, more lips are waiting to say that your first victory was just luck.” “Let us sacrifice our today so that our children can have a better tomorrow.” “I am not handsome but I can give my hand to someone who needs help... Because beauty is required in the heart, not in face...”

The Collector Today : Challenges of District Administration
- Author Name:
Alok Ranjan
- Book Type:

-
Description:
The role of the Collector or District Magistrate is most important in district administration. The District Magistrate is the most responsible representative of the government in the district. His job is to take out the policies and concepts of the government from paper and implement them in reality. Besides, he also has to connect directly with the problems and expectations of the genuses public. Thus we see that the responsibilities of today’s District Magistrate are more challenging and multi-dimensional than those of the earlier District Magistrate.
This book presents a very reliable and thorough analysis of these responsibilities of the District Magistrate. This book is different from the informational books available till now on the subject of District Administration and District Chief because in it, based on his personal experiences, the author has presented a practical analysis of the situations which can come in front of any District Magistrate at any time.
Mr. Alok Ranjan has worked as District Magistrate in five districts of Uttar Pradesh–Allahabad, Agra, Ghaziabad, Banda and Ghazipur. He has written this book on the basis of his experiences during this period. Obviously his experiences throw light on all aspects of district administration. The author has presented the challenges of district administration in a very simple and accessible manner through case-study technique.
Diaspora and Nation-Building
- Author Name:
Dr. Ruchi Verma +3

- Description: Over 33 million strong Indian diasporas spread all over the world has been an exceptionally successful story. Given their skills and other social qualities, they are also among the most sought after lots in most countries. Indian diaspora has performed well on all important parameters — political, economical, technological and cultural. PIOs are amongst the top skilled, employable and prosperous non-native people in most countries. They are heading some of the top multinational companies and hold high positions in many international organisations, in a way making an important contribution to the evolving global agenda. Today, Indian diaspora is investing in creating jobs and cutting edge technologies world over. India has also done very well in reaching out to its diaspora through various channels, including the youth. At over USD 75 billion annually, India is the top recipient of remittances. Diaspora could also be an important source of technology and know-how. Given their goodwill on both sides, they are a great source of confidence-building between India and countries of their adoption and have demonstrated their clout on many occasions. Over the last many centuries, Indians have travelled to many near and far off destinations in the world for trade, business, education and jobs. One major wave of such movement was carried out by the colonial administration under the so called indentured system for meeting labour shortages in their overseas plantations. This inhuman system of exploitation of workers finally ended and the centenary of its abolition was commemorated in many parts of the world including India during 2017-18. Antar Rashtrya Sahyog Parishad (ARSP) had organised year-long activities to mark this important landmark in the life of the Indian diaspora, culminating with an international conference on the topic, ‘Contribution of Diaspora in Nation Building’ in Mauritius in July 2018. Several leaders and scholars addressed this gathering, and this publication captures the essence of its outcomes. This publication could be a good reference for students and scholars working on diaspora.
