Sri Aurobindo and Shakespeare
- Author Name:
Dr. Meenu Sodhi Sharma
- Rating:
- Book Type:

- Description: In this book an attempt has been made to compare the two legendary writers by comparing the eastern way of thinking with the western way. Shakespeare is amongst the writers Sri Aurobindo holds in high esteem. Sri Aurobindo’s admiration for the great dramatist resulted in obvious Shakespearean influences on him. He adopts for his plays Elizabethan model of drama perfected by Shakespeare’s genius. Shakespeare’s influence is traceable also in Sri Aurobindo’s sonnets. It is said that Sri Aurobindo had Shakespearean literature on his bed-side when he left his mortal remains. Both the great writers were not satisfied by merely holding mirror to the nature but due to their greater and deeper life power, they recreated the human life in its beauty and completeness. Therefore, there is an obvious need to compare and contrast Shakeapeare and Sri Aurobindo so as to bring out affinities that may be there between their creative ideal and vision as well as their poetic and dramatic art, along with the former’s influence on the later. In this book an attempt has been made to fulfill the need and to contribute, in some measure to the appreciation of Sri Aurobindo’s poetry and plays. It also briefly touches upon Indian response to Shakespeare. It focuses mainly on Sri Aurobindo’s numerous insights and critical observations on him. To sum up writings of the two such outstanding writers, who represent two very different ways of thinking. On one hand Shakespeare potrays lot of blood shed, gory tales and a wild kind of poetic justice in his writings, but on the other hand Sri Aurobindo truely follows Indian ethos of non violence or ‘Ahimsa’. The author underlines the stark similarities and differences in both the writer’s exploring their plays and sonnets. The structure of plays and sonnets may be same of both the greatest minds but ethos and personna ingrained in their writings is quite different.

Off The Camera
- Author Name:
Brajesh Rajput
- Book Type:

- Description: Whatever a TV reporter shows on-screen", writes Brajesh Rajput, "is a very limited form of the real story". In his many years as a veteran journalist, Rajput has no doubt developed a good sense of the story: what is shown, and what is hidden. Those of us watching the news at home see only what is shown to us - the primetime anchor delivering her analysis, or the ground reporter giving his report from the frontlines of a momentous event. But as always, there is more to the world of media than meets the eyes... Shashi Tharoor Author & Parliamentarian Here is Brajesh Rajput once again, as a proficient author! Storytelling along with remarkable expressions. Brajesh's writing is a lively account of grief, joy, ups and downs of politics, and several incidents, that too, from an objective point of view - things which a TV reporter is unable to tell due to haste involved in covering news and reporting it. - Rasheed Kidwai Author and Political Analyst Whatever Brajesh Rajput writes is bound to contain certain characteristics - excellent readability, the art of engraving scenes and emotions through words, extreme sensitivity of capturing emotions along with detailed descriptions which has neither reduced nor worn out during decades of reporting. This fifth book by Brajesh brings us face to face with not only the incidents and news but also the truth behind them which is, otherwise, beyond the reach of the camera. - Rahul Dev Senior Journalist and Analyst

Description:

A Soldier's Dilemma
- Author Name:
Brig. Baqir Shameem
- Book Type:

- Description: Very few English novels are available about the North East, written especially by those who are from other regions of India. Why? Is it that this part of the country does not attract the thoughts and minds of the readers? It is indeed a sad commentary that so far not many of us have attempted to gain insight into the lives and living of our brethren who are our own countrymen. My humble effort in 'A Soldier's Dilemma' has been to narrate a story in which a lady soldier, the main protagonist is in search of her father, a scientist. Right from her childhood the girl has been empowered by her parents to meet and face challenges with aplomb and fortitude. Will she succeed now? It is a racy, suspenseful novel filled with action and intrigue. All the events take place in Nagaland with the brave men and women of this beautiful and refreshingly touching region actively participating in them. Having had the opportunity to serve in almost all remote regions in the country, my two year stint in Nagaland convinced me that they do require far more of our attention with affection.
