विगत कुछ वर्षों से शहीदे–आज़म भगतसिंह के बुत को अपनी–अपनी तरह तराशने की कोशिशें इतिहास, राजनीति और संस्कृति की दुनिया में हमें दिखाई पड़ीं। बुद्धिजीवियों और प्रगतिशीलों के मध्य भगतसिंह विमर्श का मुद्दा बने रहे। उनके अदालती बयान, आलेख, पत्र, निबन्ध, जेल नोटबुक उन्हें एक सचेत बौद्धिक क्रान्तिकारी बनाते हैं। वहीं दूसरी ओर उनका बेहद सक्रिय क्रान्तिकारी जीवन जिसकी शुरुआत उन्होंने 1925–26 से की थी और जिसका अन्त 23 मार्च, 1931 को लाहौर जेल में उनकी फाँसी से हुआ। अर्थात् कुल मिलाकर लगभग छह–सात वर्षों की तूफ़ानी ज़िन्दगी जहाँ वे काकोरी केस के रामप्रसाद बिस्मिल को फाँसीघर से छुड़ाने की ख़तरनाक योजना में अपनी प्रारम्भिक जद्दोजेहद करते दिखाई देते हैं। तब ‘बलवन्त सिंह’ नाम से उनकी इब्तदाई गतिविधियाँ जैसे भविष्य के गम्भीर क्रान्तिधर्मी की रिहर्सलें थीं। काकोरी की फाँसियों (1927) के पश्चात् भगतसिंह विचार की दुनिया में अद्भुत छलाँग लगाते हैं—अपने पूर्ववर्ती क्रान्तिकारी आन्दोलन को बहुत पीछे छोड़ते हुए। भगतसिंह के समस्त दस्तावेज़ों, अदालती बयानों, पत्रों, रेखाचित्रों, निबन्धों, जेल नोटबुक और उनके मूल्यांकन सम्बन्धी अभिलेखीय साक्ष्यों के बीच उनके साथियों के लिखे संस्मरणों की यह प्रथम कृति भगतसिंह से प्यार करनेवाले लोगों के हाथों में सौंपते हुए मुझे निश्चय ही बड़ी प्रसन्नता है। इन दुर्लभ स्मृतियों को सामने रखकर वे भगतसिंह के जीवन और उस युग के क्रान्तिकारी घटनाक्रम की एक स्पष्ट छवि निर्मित करने के साथ ही अपने समय के सवालों से टकराने के लिए आगे की अपनी क्रान्तिकारी भूमिका की भी खोजबीन कर सकेंगे, ऐसी आशा है।

प्रस्तुत उपन्यास में सुशीतल चटर्जी और अल्का नायर का प्रेम है जो सुशीतल के संयमित और प्रतिज्ञाबद्ध विद्यार्थी जीवन से आरम्भ होकर सुशीतल के पक्के जुआरी और शराबी होने तक जाता है, और दूसरी तरफ़ अल्का के एक मान की ऊँची छवि में स्थापित होने तक जो सुशीतल की दूसरी पत्नी से हुए बेटे की पढाई पर अपने जमा पैसे बिना हिचक खर्च कर देती है। दूसरा चरण सरपति राय के ख़ानदान का क़िस्सा है जो पुनः स्त्री-पुरुष सम्बन्ध के झोंकों में ही झूल जाता है। तीसरे उपन्यास में कुसमिया है—एक ईमानदार और सेवा-भाव से सम्पन्न सेविका जिसे अन्त में अपनी मालकिन के बेटे के ख़ून के इल्ज़ाम में फाँसी की सज़ा होती है।

‘विषय नर-नारी’ में बिमल मित्र ने जैसे लेखक होने की अपनी पहचान को भी बार-बार रेखांकित किया और जिया है। स्वतंत्र रूप से लेखन को ही अपना जीवन-ध्येय बनानेवाले उस ज़माने के ऐसे लेखकों की रचनाएँ स्वयं लेखन की प्रतिष्ठा हैं जिससे जनसाधारण पाठक के रूप में एक सजीव उपस्थिति की तरह जुड़ा रहता था। इस लिहाज़ से भी साहित्य की थाती में सुरक्षित ऐसी रचनाओं को

"लोकनायक जयप्रकाश नारायण का जन्म 11 अक्तूबर, 1902 को बिहार के सारण जिले के सिताबदियारा गाँव में हुआ। पढ़ाई में वे शुरू से ही कुशाग्र थे, इसलिए राजनीतिशात्र और समाजशात्र में बी.ए. एवं एम.ए. अमेरिका से किए। सन् 1929 में पं. नेहरू के आमंत्रण पर वे भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस में शामिल हुए। इस दौरान महात्मा गांधी उनके गुरु और पथ-प्रदर्शक बने। स्वतंत्रता और गांधीजी के निधन के बाद जयप्रकाश नारायण, आचार्य नरेंद्र देव और बसावन सिंह ने पहली विपक्षी सोशलिस्ट पार्टी का गठन किया। बाद में उसका नाम प्रजा सोशलिस्ट पार्टी कर दिया गया। जयप्रकाश नारायण का कहना था कि सिर्फ शासक बदलने से समस्या का हल नहीं होता, जब तक कि सारी व्यवस्था में आमूल परिवर्तन न हो। चंबल के चार सौ डाकुओं का समर्पण; बिहार में अराजक सत्ता व्यवस्था, कुशिक्षा, अपराध व अराजकता के खिलाफ ऐतिहासिक छात्र आंदोलन; व्यवस्था में बदलाव के लिए संपूर्ण क्रांति के आह्वान से लेकर केंद्र में इंदिरा गांधी की तत्कालीन सरकार को सत्ता से उखाड़कर लोकतंत्र की बहाली तक जयप्रकाश नारायण ने विविध सत्याग्रही भूमिकाओं का निर्वहण किया। लोकनायक जयप्रकाश नारायण ने इस देश में सामाजिक एवं आर्थिक परिवर्तन लाने के लिए एक संपूर्ण क्रांति का सपना देखा और देश के सम्मुख उसे प्रस्तुत किया। प्रस्तुत है स्वतंत्रता-प्राप्ति के बाद के क्रांतिकारी विचारक, दूरद्रष्टा और समाज में चेतना जगानेवाले लोकनायक की पठनीय एवं प्रेरणादायी जीवनी।

The purpose of writing this book to put my experience of fifty years and practical tips, to pen down for benefits of young fresh graduates of medicine and surgery. Every young doctor should read this book which will help him for safe sojourn during internship and house job. It is no replacement for a textbook of surgery but it has practical tips which will help in difficult circumstances to help the patient.
