- Description: "डॉ. आत्माराम ने सैन्य उपयोग हेतु ‘ऑप्टिकल काँच’ का निर्माण करके यह दिखा दिया कि भारतीय वैज्ञानिकों में प्रतिभा की कमी नहीं है। सामान्य ग्रामीण परिवार में जन्म लेकर अपनी कुशाग्र बुद्धि के बल पर इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय में भौतिक रसायन के जनक डॉ. नीलरत्न धर के निर्देशन में उन्होंने उच्च स्तरीय शोध डिग्री, डी.एस-सी. प्राप्त की और कलकत्ता जाकर ग्लास एंड सेरैमिक्स रिसर्च इंस्टीट्यूट के निदेशक बने। आगे चलकर वे देश की सर्वोच्च वैज्ञानिक अनुसंधान संस्था सी.एस.आई.आर. के निदेशक बने। डॉ. आत्माराम ‘सादा जीवन, उच्च विचार’ के आदर्श व्यक्ति थे। उनकी सत्यनिष्ठा, कर्तव्य परायणता तथा सरलता बेजोड़ थी। वे एक तरह से गांधीवादी वैज्ञानिक थे। वे हिंदी के पुजारी थे। ‘वैल्थ ऑफ इंडिया’ का हिंदी अनुवाद उपलब्ध करानी की उनकी दूरदृष्टि के कारण ही कई खंडों वाले अंग्रेजी ग्रंथ का हिंदी संस्करण ‘भारत की संपदा’ का प्रकाशन उनके जीवन की सबसे बड़ी उपलब्धि थी। डॉ. आत्माराम अणुव्रत महासमिति द्वारा ‘अणुव्रत सम्मान’ प्रदान किया गया था। वे आर्यसमाजी थे तथा प्रयागराज स्थित शताधिक वर्षों पुरानी संस्था ‘विज्ञान परिषद्’ के उन्नायकों में से थे। उनका परिचय उनके तमाम व्याख्यानों से प्रकट होता है, जो इस पुस्तक में संगृहीत है। विज्ञान में अभिरुचि रखनेवाले प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के लिए पठनीय पुस्तक।"

- Description: "जब ईश्वर ने पृथ्वी बनाई तो उसके दो-तिहाई हिस्से को जल देकर भर दिया । हो सकता है, इसमें उसका कुछ उद्देश्य रहा हो; किंतु हम पृथ्वीवासियों के लिए यह बड़े फायदे की बात है । इतना अधिक जल धरती के बाकी सूखे टुकड़े को वातानुकूलित रखता है और हम पृथ्वी पर रहनेवाले जीवित प्राणी सूर्य की गरमी से नष्ट होने से बचे रहते हैं । इसके अलावा इतने बड़े जलाशय की आवश्यकता प्रकृति को स्वयं के आसवन उपकरण-सूर्य की सहायता से पीने योग्य पानी उपलब्ध कराने के लिए थी । औसतन एक घन किलोमीटर समुद्री जल में लगभग चार करोड़ दस लाख टन नमक होता है । यह अनुमान लगाया गया है कि संपूर्ण जलमंडल में इतना नमक है, जो पूरे संसार को 150 मीटर मोटी नमक की परत से ढक सकता है । नमक के अलावा समुद्र में दूसरे खनिज भी होते हैं । एक घनमील समुद्र के पानी में पंद्रह करोड़ टन से ज्यादा खनिज होते हैं । उनमें से एक अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण खनिज है 'आयोडीन' । दूसरा है ' ब्रोमीन ' । संसार- भर की ब्रोमीन का 9/10 हिस्सा समुद्र में ही होता है । ब्रोमीन का उपयोग फोटोग्राफी की प्लेटों और अनेक दवाओं में होता है । इसके अतिरिक्त सागर ओषधियों का भी भंडार है । सागर की ऐसी ही रोचक तथा वैज्ञानिक जानकारी के लिए प्रस्तुत है-' सागर की रोचक बातें '|
