I knew nothing of Shah Rukh Khan nor of Hollywood.It is far from My culture and country.I saw his ted talk on the Internet and was curious to find information about his life and achievements.This introduced me to an awakening from the lethargy of pain and emptiness that L was enduring.L found a Spark of life, all over again, to the joy of My other 3 Children who are surprised to see me engaged in other activities other than My work.I teach English as a Second language to Non native speakers.I used to write poetry in Greek of which some poems were published in local magazines.L am not ashamed to say that at the age of 56, yes 56, and with 3 Children, L was intrigued to write poetry for the first time in my life in English about this extraordinary individual named Shah Rukh Khan.Therefore it is an amateur’s attempt to introduce the sensitive, inspiring world of srk and if L have managed to capture the soul, heart and thoughts of his admirers and of the superstar himself, even at the least, then L will have conquered an impossible dream! L have written 26 poems which I have printed as a book, dedicated to his 26 years of showbiz. It is a tribute to the life, work and performance of this super talented megastar! This was all feasible due to ted Talks and L was also inspired to become a volunteer ted translator in Greek as a tribute to the involvement with ted India for, which L have also written a poem. इसमें जीवन से वाचक का पुनर्जागृत प्रेम है और विकसित होती हुई एक प्रेम कहानी भी, जिनसे कथा विरल ढंग से पठनीय हो उठती है।

‘पाहीघर’ अवध के एक गाँव, ख़ासकर एक परिवार के इर्द-गिर्द बुनी गई कथा के साथ-साथ सन् 1857 के उस तूफ़ान की इतिहास-कथा भी है जिसके थपेड़ों से अवध का मध्ययुगीन ढाँचा पूरी तरह चरमरा उठा। एक ओर इसमें तत्कालीन सामाजिक और राजनीतिक व्यवस्था का विवरण है तो दूसरी ओर अंग्रेज़ों के भारत में पैर जमाने के पीछे के कारणों पर लेखक की वस्तुपरक दृष्टि और पैनी सोच की भी झलक है।
यह उपन्यास तत्कालीन समाज की विसंगतियों और अन्तर्द्वन्द्व का भी दर्पण है, जिसके कारण कल और आज में कोई तात्त्विक फ़र्क़ नहीं दिखता। साम्प्रदायिक और जातीय तनाव पैदा कर राजनीति करनेवाले तब भी थे और आज भी हैं, बस फ़र्क़ यह है कि उनके मुखौटे बदल गए हैं। उस वक़्त यह काम विदेशी करवाते थे और अब यही काम देशी चरित्र करा रहे हैं।
वस्तुतः ‘पाहीघर’ की कथा एक बहुआयामी अनुभव की धरोहर की दस्तावेज़ है, जो अपनी अन्तर्धारा के व्यापक फैलाव के चलते किसी स्थान या काल विशेष की परिधि में बँधना अस्वीकार कर जाती है।

हिन्दी उपन्यास में लोकोन्मुखी रचनाशीलता की जिस परम्परा की शुरुआत प्रेमचन्द ने की थी, उसे पुष्ट करनेवालों में नागार्जुन अग्रणी हैं। ‘रतिनाथ की चाची’ उनका पहला हिन्दी उपन्यास है। सर्वप्रथम इसका प्रकाशन 1948 में हुआ था। इसके बाद उनके कुल बारह उपन्यास आए। सब में दलितों-वंचितों-शोषितों की कथा है। ‘रतिनाथ की चाची’ जैसे चरित्रों से आरम्भ हुई यात्रा में बिसेसरी, उगनी, इन्दिरा, चम्पा, गरीबदास, लक्ष्मणदास, बलचनमा, भोला जैसे चरित्र जुड़ते गए। उनके उपन्यास में नारी-चरित्रों को मिली प्रमुखता ‘रतिनाथ की चाची’ की ही कड़ी है। इसीलिए इस कृति का ऐतिहासिक महत्त्व है।
‘रतिनाथ की चाची’ विधवा है। देवर से प्रेम के चलते गर्भवती हुई तो मिथिला के पिछड़े सामन्ती समाज में हलचल मच गई। गर्भपात के बाद तिल-तिल कर वह मरी। यह उपन्यास हिन्दी का गौरव है।

Originally written in Bānglā with the title Chokhar Bāli (literally meaning 'sand in the eye'), the novel has been translated into English by Krishna Kripalani. The translator in his foreword to the novel opines, "It centers round the problem of human relationship and tells of what happens behind the staid facade of a well-to-do, middle-class Bengali home of the period, where a widowed mother lives with her only son on whom she dotes". Apart from telling the story of the family, the novel revolves around two main characters or rather say protagonists-Binodini, a young, talented, educated and beautiful widow; and Mahendra spoilt brat of his foolish mother. Binodini is written, taking the backdrop of contemporary society of Calcutta.
