हमारे बीच इधर जिन कवियों के रचना-कर्म को गहरी उत्सुकता और उम्मीद के साथ देखा गया है, उनमें डॉ. विनय कुमार भी हैं। उन्होंने बाक़ी सबसे भिन्न रास्ता चुना है। हिन्दी-उर्दू के दोआब को अपनी भूमि मानकर उन्होंने कुछ अनूठी कविताएँ रची हैं। इनमें उनका अपना अनुभव सार रूप में प्रगट होता है। दिल्ली के अनुभव से लेकर गाँव-जवार और देश-दुनिया के प्रसंग यहाँ समाहित हैं। साथ-साथ समसामयिक विषयों एवं जीवन-तथ्यों, राजनीतिक-सामाजिक सन्दर्भों पर उनकी बेलाग, तिलमिला देनेवाली टिप्पणियाँ भी दर्ज होती चलती हैं। विवरणों-ब्योरों का ढेर लगाने के बजाय डॉ. विनय कुछ चुनिन्दा बिम्ब निर्मित करने की कोशिश करते हैं जो वास्तव में अनुभवों का सारांश होते हैं। डॉ. विनय भाषा को अपने ढंग से बरतते हैं—उर्दू-बहुल शब्दों-मुहावरों से जड़ी उनकी भाषा एक ही साथ अनलंकृत, सादी भी है और मीनाकारी से जगमग भी।

कवि विनय कुमार पेशे से मनोरोग-चिकित्सक हैं। हमारी भाषा में ऐसे कवि विरल हैं जो मनोरोग-चिकित्सा में भी यशस्वी हों। इस क्षेत्र में उनके अनुभव अभी कविता में विस्तार से आने को शेष हैं, लेकिन जहाँ-तहाँ उन अनुभवों की पदचाप, उनकी नेपथ्य-झंकार अवश्य सुनी जा सकती है। जटिल मनोगुत्थियों से उलझनेवाले डॉ. विनय कुमार का मुख्य ध्येय इन कविताओं में अपनी बात का सम्प्रेषण है जिसमें वह हमेशा ही अप्रत्याशित रूप से सफल होते हैं। उनकी कविता अपना सम्पूर्ण अर्थ-कोष एक ही पाठ में खोल देती है। ऐसी सम्प्रेषणीयता कविता को साधारण पाठकों के लिए सुगम तो बनाती ही है, साथ ही कविता को वैचारिक हथियार की क्षमता भी प्रदान करती है। डॉ. विनय कुमार की कविता की गुफ़्तगू अवाम से है।

ऐसा कहते हैं हठयोगी और युंग भी कि आदमी का वजूद, उसकी स्मृतियाँ, खासकर जातीय स्मृतियाँ, एक परतदार शिला की तरह उसके अवचेतन के मुँह पर सदियों पड़ी रहती हैं। फिर अचानक कोई ऐसा क्षण आता है कि शिला दरकती है, हहाता हुआ कुछ उमड़ आता है बाहर और कूल-कछार तोड़ता हुआ सारा आगत-विगत बहा ले जाता है। शेष रहता है एक संदीप्त वर्तमान और उस पर पाँव और चित्त टिकाकर कोई खड़ा रह गया तो उसकी बूँद समुद्र हो जाती है यानी अगाध हो जाती है उसकी चेतना ।

ऐसा लगता है कि अपने डॉ. विनय सचमुच ही प्रत्यभिज्ञा के किसी विराट एहसास से गुजरे हैं। जिन बारह आर्किटाइपों की बात युग कहते हैं-योद्धा, प्रेमी, संन्यासी, सेवा-निपुण, अभियानी, जादूगर, विदूषक, नियोजक, द्रष्टा, भोला-भंडारी, विद्रोही वगैरह, उनमें इनका वाला आर्किटाइप प्रेमी-संन्यासी विद्रोही तीनों की मिट्टी मिलाकर बना होगा जैसा कि सर्जकों का अक्सर होता है।

एक क्षीण कथा-वृत्त के सहारे तीन मुख्य किरदार कौंधते हैं-रानी, उसकी अनुचरी यक्षी और वह शिल्पी जो आया तो था रानी का उद्यान तरह-तरह की मूर्तियों से सजाने पर यक्षी की छवि उसके भीतर के पानियों में उसके जाने-अनजाने, चाहे अनचाहे ऐसी उतरी कि सबसे बड़ी शिला पर उसी की मूर्ति उत्कीर्ण हो गई। ईर्ष्या-दग्ध रानी की तलवार उसका एक हाथ काट तो गई पर फिर सदियों बाद जब भग्न मूर्ति के आश्रय उसकी स्मृतियाँ जगीं तो उमड़ पड़ा पचासी बन्दों का सजग आत्म-निवेदन इसकी सान्द्रता, त्वरा और चित्रात्मकता डी.एच. लॉरेन्स के मैन-वुमन-कॉस्मॉस वाले उस अभंग गुरुत्वाकर्षण की याद दिला देती है जिसका आवेग हिन्दी की कुछ और लम्बी कविताओं में कल-कल छल-छल करके बहता दिखाई देता है (जैसे कि उर्वशी, कनुप्रिया, मगध, बाघ आदि में)।

विनय कुमार की ‘श्रेयसी’ सरस्वती के अनाविल उज्ज्वल स्वरूप का साक्षात्कार है। इसे पढ़ते हुए ऋग्वेद के वाक्सूक्त के मन्त्र चित्त में विवर्तित होने लगते हैं। ये कविताएँ चेतना के गह्वरों तक उतरती हैं और अतीत और इतिहास ही नहीं, वर्तमान को स्वरित करते हुए भविष्य की आहटों से भी परिचित कराती हैं। विनय कुमार बदलते परिवेश में अपने अक्षुण्ण सांस्कृतिक बोध के साथ कविता को वहाँ ले जाते हैं जहाँ ज्ञान शब्दों में सिमटकर नहीं रह जाता, अनुभव में संवेद्य बन जाता है।

विनय कुमार की ‘यक्षिणी’ को लोगों ने नए ढंग का खंड-काव्य कहा था। सात सर्गों में बँटा इस पुस्तक का कलेवर उससे आगे जाता है। एक लम्बी, गहरी और बहुआयामी  विचार-यात्रा से सम्भव हुई इस कृति में सूखी वैचारिकी नहीं है। गीतात्मक तरलता, आख्यान-कुशलता, नए और अनोखे बिम्बों के साथ-साथ इसमें एक बंकिमता भी है जो कविताओं को मार्मिक और बेधक बनाती है।

‘श्रेयसी’ में परम्परागत अवधारणाओं का स्वीकार भी है और प्रतिरोध भी, विस्तार भी है और तिक्रमण भी। कवि दिव्य से आँखें तो मिलाता है मगर नाहक अभिभूत नहीं होता। वह ज्ञान की परम्परा को समझने का प्रयास करता है और इस क्रम में आवश्यक प्रतिवाद और भविष्यगामी संवाद भी सम्भव करता है जिसे इस यात्रा की उपलब्धि कह सकते हैं। सरस्वती की अवधारणा यूँ तो भारतीय है मगर इसे रचनेवाले तत्त्व कमोबेश हर संस्कृति में हैं। कवि ने भू-राजनीतिक और भाषिक सीमाओं का सहज भाव से अतिक्रमण करते हुए मानव-सभ्यता की सारस्वत-सर्जनात्मक यात्राओं की शक्तियों और चुनौतियों को स्वर दिया है।

यह कृति भारतीय होकर भी वैश्विक है, और धर्मों और संस्कृतियों के विभाजन से परे जाती है। ‘श्रेयसी’ में सरस्वती बड़ी सहजता के साथ गलेटिया, हाइपैटिया, बहादुरशाह ज़फ़र और वाजिद अली शाह से बात करती दिखती है। यह वंदना की किताब नहीं। श्रेयसी कोई देवी नहीं, एक तरलता है जो प्रकृति, कथा और सर्जनात्मक प्रज्ञा तीनों में बहती है। इन तरलताओं के बिना न तो मनुष्य का जीवन सम्भव है और न ही मनुष्यता का।

महाकाव्यात्मक सम्भावनाओं को अपने वितान में समेटती ‘श्रेयसी’ को वर्तमान हिन्दी काव्य-जगत में एक सार्थक हस्तक्षेप की तरह देखा जाएगा।

सम् उपसर्ग पूर्वक ख्या (प्रकथने) धातु से ‘संख्या’ शब्द बना है। ‘प्रकथन’ का अर्थ है ‘नाम निर्देश’ करना। गिनतियों में भावों के नाम होने के कारण इनको ‘संख्या’ शब्द से व्यक्त किया गया है। शास्त्र और लोक की व्यवहार परम्परा में संख्यावाचक शब्दों का प्रयोग विभिन्न स्तरों पर प्राचीन काल से होता रहा है। पालि त्रिपिटक के अन्तर्गत सुत्तों की जो विशेषताएँ कही गई हैं, उनमें से एक 'संख्यात्मक परिगणन प्रणाली' का प्रयोग भी है। संख्यात्मक वर्गीकरण के प्रयोग सांख्य और जैन दर्शन में विशेष दिखाई पड़ने के साथ वाल्मीकि रामायण, महाभारत एवं पौराणिक साहित्य में भी दिखते हैं जो प्रबुद्ध प्रतिभा और उर्वर कल्पना का संस्पर्श पाकर गूढ़ एवं रहस्यगर्भित संकेतों के द्योतक प्रतीकों के रूप में सार्थक हो उठे हैं। भारतीय धर्म साधना एवं साहित्य की विविध विधाओं में जिन अनेक गूढ़ार्थपरक संख्यावाचक शब्दों का प्रयोग हुआ है, उन सबका संचयन और विवेचन एवं मूल सन्दर्भ ग्रन्थों से आवश्यक उद्धरणांश देकर प्रस्तुत कोश को भरसक उपादेय बनाने के लिए एक से लेकर एक सौ आठ संख्या पर्यन्त प्राप्त हुए 4090 संख्या शब्दों का यहाँ विवेचन किया गया है। विश्वास है, प्रस्तुत मौलिक प्रयास सर्वोपयोगी सिद्ध होगा। प्रस्तुत कोश में संगृहीत लगभग पाँच हज़ार संख्यापरक शब्दों को तत्सम्बन्धी अस्सी संख्या शीर्षकों में अकारादि क्रम से विभाजित कर उपस्थित किया गया है जिससे किसी भी शब्द से सम्बन्धित आवश्यक जानकारी प्राप्त करने में कोई असुविधा न हो। उदाहरणार्थ यदि ‘तैंतीस देवता' शब्द देखना है तो कोश में ‘तैंतीस’ संख्या शीर्षक के अन्तर्गत ‘देवता तैंतीय' देखना होगा। इसी तरह यदि ‘एकादश रुद्र’ शब्द देखना है तो ‘ग्यारह’ संख्या शीर्षक के अन्तर्गत ‘रुद्र एकादश’ शब्द खोजना होगा। आदि-आदि।

प्रस्तुत ‘संस्कृत वाङ्‌मय कोश’ में संस्कृत वाङ्‌मय की प्राय: सभी शाखाओं में योगदान करनेवाले ग्रन्थ एवं ग्रन्थकारों का एकत्र संकलन है। इस प्रकार का ‘सर्वंकष’ संस्कृत वाङ्‌मय कोश बनाने का प्रयास अभी तक कहीं नहीं हुआ। इस कोश के ग्रन्थकार खंड में केवल संस्कृत भाषा के ही ग्रन्थकारों का उल्लेख है। फिर भी हिन्दी, मराठी, बांग्ला, तमिल, तेलुगू इत्यादि प्रादेशिक भाषाओं के जिन प्रख्यात लेखकों ने संस्कृत में भी कुछ वाङ्‌मय सेवा की है, उनका भी उल्लेख यथावसर ग्रन्थकार खंड में हुआ है। प्रथम खंड में ग्रन्थकारों का और द्वितीय खंड में अन्यों का परिचय वर्णानुक्रम से ग्रथित है। किन्तु इस सामग्री के साथ और भी कुछ अत्यावश्यक सामग्री का चयन दोनों खंड़ों में किया गया है। प्रथम खंड के प्रारम्भिक विभाग के अन्तर्गत ‘संस्कृत वाङ्‌मय दर्शन’ का समावेश हुआ है। संस्कृत वाङ्‌मय के अन्तर्गत, सैकड़ों लेखकों ने जो मौलिक विचारधन विद्यारसिकों को समर्पित किया, उसका समेकित परिचय विषयानुक्रम से देना ही इस विभाग का उद्‌देश्य है। पुराण-इतिहास विषयक प्रकरण में अठारह पुराणों के साथ ‘रामायण’ और ‘महाभारत’ इन इतिहास-ग्रन्थों के अन्तरंग का एवं तद्‌विषयक कुछ विवादों का स्वरूप कथन दिया गया है। ‘महाभारत’ की सम्पूर्ण कथा पर्वानुक्रम से दी गई है। दार्शनिक वाङ्‌मय के विचारों का परिचय न्याय-वैशेषिक, सांख्य-योग, तंत्र और मीमांसा-वेदान्त विभागों के अनुसार दिया गया है। इसमें न्याय के अन्तर्गत बौद्ध और जैन न्याय का विहंगावलोकन किया गया है। योग विषय के अन्तर्गत पातंजल योगसूत्रोक्‍त विचारों के साथ हठयोग, बौद्धयोग, भक्तियोग, कर्मयोग और ज्ञानयोग का भी परिणाम दिया गया है। वेदान्त परिचय के अन्तर्गत शंकर, रामानुज, वल्लभ, मध्व और चैतन्य जैसे महान तत्त्वदर्शी-ज्ञानियों के निष्‍कर्षभूत द्वैत-अद्वैत सिद्धान्तों का विवेचन किया गया है।
