India has also done very well in reaching out to its diaspora through various channels, including the youth. At over USD 75 billion annually, India is the top recipient of remittances. Diaspora could also be an important source of technology and know-how. Given their goodwill on both sides, they are a great source of confidence-building between India and countries of their adoption and have demonstrated their clout on many occasions. Over the last many centuries, Indians have travelled to many near and far off destinations in the world for trade, business, education and jobs. One major wave of such movement was carried out by the colonial administration under the so called indentured system for meeting labour shortages in their overseas plantations. This inhuman system of exploitation of workers finally ended and the centenary of its abolition was commemorated in many parts of the world including India during 2017-18. Antar Rashtrya Sahyog Parishad (ARSP) had organised year-long activities to mark this important landmark in the life of the Indian diaspora, culminating with an international conference on the topic, ‘Contribution of Diaspora in Nation Building’ in Mauritius in July 2018. Several leaders and scholars addressed this gathering, and this publication captures the essence of its outcomes. - Description: """खूब लड़ी मरदानी वो तो झाँसीवाली रानी थी...’ इन पंक्तियों का उद्घोष होते ही इनकी लेखिका सुभद्रा कुमारी चौहान का नाम मन में कौंध जाता है। वीररस से ओत-प्रोत कवयित्री सुभद्रा कुमारी चौहान का जन्म 16 अगस्त, 1904 को इलाहाबाद के निहालपुर गाँव में हुआ। वे बचपन से कविता लिखने लगी थीं। उनकी कविताओं ने उन्हें पूरे स्कूल में लोकप्रिय बना दिया था। महादेवी वर्मा उनकी बचपन की सहेली थीं। दोनों का साथ लंबे समय तक बना रहा। सुभद्रा की पढ़ाई हालाँकि नौवीं कक्षा के बाद ही छूट गई, लेकिन उनके साहित्य की गहराई से यह अभाव जरा भी नहीं खटकता। वे कांग्रेस की कार्यकर्ता रहीं और बापू की लाडली रहीं। जबलपुर में वर्ष 1922 का ‘झंडा सत्याग्रह’ देश का ऐसा पहला सत्याग्रह था, जिसमें सुभद्रा पहली महिला सत्याग्रही थीं। सुभद्रा बचपन से दबंग, विद्रोही और वीरांगना थीं। उनकी रचनाओं में उनकी स्वाभाविक अभिव्यक्ति देखी जा सकती है। उन्होंने लगभग 88 कविताओं और 46 कहानियों की रचना की, जिसमें अशिक्षा, अंधविश्वास, जातिप्रथा आदि रूढि़यों पर प्रहार किया गया है। ‘झाँसी की रानी’ उनकी सदाबहार रचना है, जो आज भी स्कूली पाठ्यक्रम में शामिल है और जल्दी ही बच्चे उससे स्वयं को जोड़ लेते हैं। ‘बिखरे मोती’, ‘उन्मादिनी’ और ‘सीधे-सादे चित्र’ उनके तीन लोकप्रिय कहानी-संग्रह हैं। 44 वर्ष की अल्पायु में 15 फरवरी, 1948 को कार द्वारा नागपुर से जबलपुर लौटते समय एक सड़क दुर्घटना में उनका निधन हो गया।"

- Description: मिर्ज़ा असद-उल्लाह ख़ाँ ग़ालिब का नाम भारत ही नहीं, बल्कि विश्व के महान कवियों में शामिल है! मिर्ज़ा ग़ालिब ने 1857 के आन्दोलन के सम्बन्ध में अपनी जो रूदाद लिखी है, उससे उनकी राजनीतिक विचारधारा और भारत में अंग्रेज़ी राज के सम्बन्ध में उनके दृष्टिकोण को समझने में काफ़ी मदद मिल सकती है! अपनी यह रूदाद उन्होंने लगभग डायरी की शक्ल में प्रस्तुत की है। और फ़ारसी भाषा में लिखी गई इस छोटी-सी पुस्तिका का नाम है—‘दस्तंबू’। फ़ारसी भाषा में 'दस्तंबू' शब्द का अर्थ है पुष्पगुच्छ, अर्थात् बुके (Bouquet)। अपनी इस छोटी-सी किताब 'दस्तंबू' में ग़ालिब ने 11 मई, 1857 से 31 जुलाई, 1857 तक की हलचलों का कवित्वमय वर्णन किया है। 'दस्तंबू' में ऐसे अनेक चित्र हैं जो अनायास ही पाठक के मर्म को छू लेते हैं। किताब के बीच-बीच में उन्होंने जो कविताई की है, उसके अतिरिक्त गद्य में भी कविता का पूरा स्वाद महसूस होता है। जगह-जगह बेबसी और अन्तर्द्वन्द्व की अनोखी अभिव्यक्तियाँ भरी हुई हैं। इस तरह 'दस्तंबू' में न केवल 1857 की हलचलों का वर्णन है, बल्कि ग़ालिब के निजी जीवन की वेदना भी भरी हुई है। ‘दस्तंबू’ के प्रकाशन को लेकर ग़ालिब ने अनेक लम्बे-लम्बे पत्र मुंशी हरगोपाल ‘तफ़्त:’ को लिखे हैं। अध्येताओं की सुविधा के लिए सारे पत्र पुस्तक के अन्त में दिए गए हैं। भारत की पहली जनक्रान्ति, उससे उत्पन्न परिस्थितियाँ और ग़ालिब की मनोवेदना को समझने के लिए ‘दस्तंबू’ एक ज़रूरी किताब है। इसे पढ़ने का मतलब है सन् 1857 को अपनी आँखों से देखना और अपने लोकप्रिय शाइर की संवेदनाओं से साक्षात्कार करना। —भूमिका से
