This book by eminent journalist Aaku Srivastava, delves deep into the history of the politics of independent India with an aim to study the ups and downs of the regional parties arising with the contradictions and conflicts between the states against the ‘Centre’. These ‘contradictions’ first appeared in the early 1970s when local political forces in 7 to 8 states formed their own ‘united governments’ and offered localist alternatives to the ‘Centrist’ Congress policies. Linguistic and local cultural identities made this change possible. In the Centre too, two non-Congress parties and local parties formed governments. In the era of globalisation, this tendency of decentralisation became even more forceful and compelling. Perhaps that is why even now that Congress ‘centralism’ has been replaced by BJP, many localist identities keep clashing with BJP’s centralism as well. Aaku Srivastava critically examines the various dimensions of this fundamental contradiction of Indian politics. And they tell that this contradiction is due to ‘internal contradiction’ of our contemporary politics, which apparently appears to be a ‘curse for democracy’ but indirectly it seems to keep democracy alive. "‘क्या लिखूँ, क्या लिखूँ’ मेरी द्वितीय पुस्तक है। इस पुस्तक को लिखने की यात्रा बहुत रोचक रही है। सर्वप्रथम तो लिखने से पहले मन में कई प्रश्न उठ रहे थे, जैसे कि किस विधा में लिखूँ, किस विषय पर लिखूँ? पर्यावरण पर लिखूँ, भ्रूण हत्या पर लिखूँ या जल की समस्या पर लिखूँ। दिल कह रहा था, सब विषयों पर लिख दो, परंतु दिमाग सहमत नहीं था। समझ नहीं आ रहा था कि क्या करूँ? मन मस्तिष्क के इस द्वंद्व में समय गुजरता जा रहा था। इसी बीच मैं बिटिया खुशी, जो मेरी प्रथम श्रोता है, से भी निरंतर पूछ रही थी कि क्या लिखूँ? आखिरकार एक दिन वह कह उठी, अरे मम्मी, क्या लिखूँ पर ही लिखो आप। तत्पश्चात् एक निरंतर कविता का जन्म हुआ, जो क्या लिखूँ के रूप में आपके समक्ष है। एक लेखक की जिम्मेदारी को निभाते हुए मैंने प्रयास किया है कि अपनी पुस्तक ‘क्या लिखूँ’ के माध्यम से मैं समाज में व्याप्त समस्याओं, मनुष्य के कर्तव्य, इतिहास, भूगोल, संस्कृति, आतंक सभी विषयों पर आप सभी का ध्यान आकर्षित कर सकूँ। कुछ पंक्तियाँ देखिए— शहर शहर कूड़े का पहाड़ लिखूँ संक्रमण, बदबू की दहाड लिखूँ फेफड़ों को मिलती हवा दूषित लिखूँ या पशु-पक्षी भी कुपोषित लिखूँ पर्यावरण की व्यथा लिखूँ या गाडिय़ाँ दौड़ाने की प्रथा लिखूँ सोचती हूँ मैं क्या लिखूँ? इसमें कहाँ तक सफल हो पाई हूँ, यह पाठक वर्ग ही बता सकता है। आशा ही नहीं, पूर्ण विश्वास है मुझे कि आपको मेरी यह पुस्तक पसंद आएगी।"

When I met Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India on the 26th of March 2015, my enthusiasm for music was at its lowest ebb. During our conversation, Modiji was intrigued by my dream project, 'Sangeet Gram', an academy in the memory of Ustad Bismillah Khan. But, I was surprised to find that he shared this dream with me, having himself built a museum to preserve the endangered instruments of India. The following year arrived and I began preparations for Ustad Bismillah Khan's centennial celebrations, including the construction of Sangeet Gram. It was then that I received the honour of being inducted into the National Implementation Committee for Centenary Celebrations and my efforts now extend to holding celebration concerts in India and abroad. I had already been writing an account of Baba's life; the priceless anecdotes that he had shared and the surreal moments that we had spent together. In order to commemorate his musical genius and celebrate 100 years of his unparalleled contribution to music in this field, I deemed it fit to publish it all in book form. I hope this book provides its readers with an insight into Baba's life, and that they too celebrate his simplicity, his undying perseverance and patience with his art, the genius of his music and my musical journey, through this book-'Baba & Me'.

भारतीय सैन्य पायलट विंग कमांडर राकेश शर्मा अंतरिक्ष में जानेवाले पहले भारतीय हैं। 13 जनवरी, 1949 को पटियाला में जनमे राकेश शर्मा सन 1970 में फाइटर पायलट के रूप में भारतीय वायु सेना में शामिल हुए। सन 1971 के भारत-पाक युद्ध में उन्होंने कम-से-कम 21 बार उड़ान भरी। वे अंतरिक्ष में यात्रा करनेवाले पहले भारतीय और विश्व के 138वें अंतरिक्ष यात्री बने। यह अंतरिक्ष मिशन लगभग 8 दिनों तक चला और 11 अप्रैल, 1984 को राकेश शर्मा एवं उनका दो सदस्यीय सोवियत दल पृथ्वी पर कजाकिस्तान लौट आया। ‘हीरो ऑफ द सोवियत यूनियन’ का सम्मान पानेवाले वे पहले भारतीय भी हैं। उन्हें अपने रूसी सह-अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों के साथ ‘अशोक चक्र’ सम्मान भी मिला। सेना से पद-मुक्ति के बाद सन 1987 में राकेश शर्मा हिंदुस्तान एयरोनॉटिक्स लिमिटेड में मुख्य परीक्षण पायलट के रूप में सम्मिलित हुए, जिसे उन्होंने 2001 में स्वचालित वर्क फ्लो बोर्ड का अध्यक्ष बनने के बाद छोड़ दिया। प्रस्तुत पुस्तक में भारत के गौरव विंग कमांडर राकेश शर्मा के पायलट से अंतरिक्ष यात्री बनने की रोमांचक कहानी है, जो प्रेरित करेगी और युवाओं को इस क्षेत्र में कॅरियर बनाने का पथ भी प्रशस्त करेगी।
