- Description: वाजपेयीजी ने हिंदी पत्रकारिता कला के निखार के लिए इसके विभिन्न पक्षों पर भरपूर लेखन किया। कलकत्ता से प्रकाशित ‘हिंदी बंगवासी’ (1905) से पत्रकारिता प्रारंभ करने वाले वाजपेयीजी ने मासिक पत्र ‘नृसिंह’ (1907) का संपादन किया। ‘भारतमित्र’ के प्रधान संपादक बनने के पूर्व वाजपेयीजी ने कुछ समय तक ‘सनातन धर्म’ पत्रिका का भी संपादन किया। 1920 में उन्होंने ‘स्वतंत्र’ साप्ताहिक का प्रकाशन किया। हिंदी पत्रकारिता को उच्चता और समृद्धि देने वाले तीन मराठी भाषी यशस्वी संपादकों में माधवराव सप्रे, बाबूराव विष्णु पराड़कर एवं लक्ष्मण नारायण गर्दे का नाम इतिहास में स्वर्णाक्षरों में अंकित है, जिन्होंने राष्ट्रभाषा हिंदी के प्रति अगाध श्रद्धा और लगन का परिचय अपने श्रेष्ठ संपादकीय कौशल एवं पत्रकारी लेखन से दिया। गर्देजी आजीवन आर्थिक कठिनाइयों से जूझते रहे, किंतु उन्होंने कभी समझौते नहीं किए। अपनी ‘कलम’ की स्वतंत्रता की रक्षा पूरी धर्म-निष्ठा से की। श्रेष्ठ व्यंग्यकार और स्वनामधन्य संपादक अशोकजी ने अपनी लेखन और संपादन क्षमता, पत्रकारिता के प्रति अटूट समर्पण और निष्ठा की बदौलत ‘स्वतंत्र भारत’ को लोकप्रिय एवं प्रतिष्ठित अखबार बना दिया था। अशोकजी की ही अनुशंसा पर दैनिक ‘स्वतंत्र भारत’ के दूसरे संपादक योगींद्रपति त्रिपाठी ने अपनी अप्रतिम कर्मनिष्ठा से इसे उत्तर प्रदेश का विश्वसनीय और लोकप्रिय अखबार बनाया। त्रिपाठीजी लगातार 18 बरसों तक इसके संपादक रहे। त्रिपाठीजी विद्वत्ता और सादगी की प्रतिमूर्ति थे। वे उच्चकोटि के सुलझे हुए पत्रकार थे।
