इस पुस्तक में संकलित साक्षात्कारों का विषय-क्षेत्र अत्यन्त विस्तृत है। मार्क्सवाद, समकालीन विश्व, पूँजीवाद, नवसाम्राज्यवाद, नवफ़ासीवाद और भारतीय लोकतंत्र के विरूपीकरण से लेकर कविता, कहानी, उपन्यास और निजी जीवन तक—साहित्य और देश-दुनिया की उनकी समझ का एक स्पष्ट प्रतिबिम्ब यहाँ मिलता है। उनकी विश्व-दृष्टि का रूपायन इनमें हुआ है।
