- Description: अरुण प्रकाश ने स्पष्ट किया है कि हिंदी में किस तरह 'विधा' का इस्तेमाल 'फॉर्म' और 'जेनर' दोनों अर्थों के लिए होता है। उनके अनुसार उपन्यास एक रूपबंध है जिसकी कई विधाएँ हो सकती हैं। मुख्य बात है, विधाओं या रूपबंधों की सैद्धांतिक कहानी उद्ïघाटित करना, जो 'गद्य की पहचान' में बड़े विस्तार और रोचक ढंग से है। पश्चिम के साहित्यिक सिद्धांतकारों ने फॉर्म और जेनर पर बड़े-बड़े काम किए हैं। मेरे देखने में हिंदी में इधर इस ढंग का यह पहला काम है, जिसमें कुछ बुनियादी सवाल उठाए गए हैं। इस संग्रह के निबंधों में अरस्तू से लेकर बाख्तिन, रोलां बार्थ, तोदोरोव, देरिदा आदि तक के विचारों पर चर्चा है। यह जानने की चीज है कि आखिरकार कोई रूपबंध क्यों अस्तित्व में आता है, किसी युग में कुछ खास रूपबंध या विधाएँ प्रधान क्यों हो उठती हैं, जीवनी जैसा प्राचीन रूपबंध अब भी क्यों जीवित है, जबकि महाकाव्य जैसा शक्तिशाली रूपबंध मर गया, क्या इस रूपबंध की कुछ सीमाएँ और नियम हैं, मिश्रण या संकरता क्यों घटित होती है, क्या नए रूपबंध या विधाएँ पुरातन के ही कायांतर हैं, चिर-परिचित रूपबंध पाठकीय मनोविज्ञान पर कैसा प्रभाव डालते हैं, साहित्यकार किसी रूपबंध से कितना रेजिमेंटेड होता है और कितना उसे तोड़कर नई जमीन देता है—अरुण प्रकाश ने ऐसे ढेरों प्रश्नों की रोशनी में गद्य की पहचान की है। शंभुनाथ (भूमिका से)

- Description: सारदेंदु बंद्योपाध्याय की विशिष्टता उनके जासूसी लेखन के अतिरिक्त उनकी अद्वितीय लेखन-शैली के साथ-साथ उनके चरित्रों का सूक्ष्म जीवंत चित्रण है। बीसवीं सदी के प्रारंभ के बंगाल में लेखक और पाठक समान रूप से अपराध और जासूसी साहित्य को नीची निगाहों से देखते थे। सारदेंदु बंद्योपाध्याय ने पहली बार उस लेखन को सम्मानीय स्थान दिलाया। इसका एक बड़ा कारण यह था कि उनके पूर्व के लेखक पंचकोरी दे और दिनेंद्र कुमार अंग्रेजी के जासूसी लेखक आर्थर कोनान, डोएल, एडगर एलन पो, जी.के. चेस्टरसन तथा अगाथा क्रिस्टी से प्रभावित होकर लिखते थे, जबकि सारदेंदु के चरित्र और स्थान अन्य जासूसी उपन्यासों के विपरीत, भारतीय मूल और स्थल के परिवेश में जीते हैं। उनके लेखन का विनोदी स्वभाव पाठक को अनायास कथा के दौरान गुदगुदाता रहता है। ब्योमकेश का साहित्य न केवल अभूतपूर्व जासूसी साहित्य है बल्कि सभी समय और काल में, समाज के सभी वर्गों के युवाओं और वृद्धों में समान रूप से सदैव लोकप्रिय बना रहा है। पाठक इन रहस्य भरी कहानियों को उनके जीवंत लेखन के लिए, अंत जानने के बावजूद, बार-बार पढ़ने के लिए लालायित रहता है। किसी भी लोकप्रिय साहित्य में यह एक अद्वितीय उपलब्धि मानी जाती है और यही उपलब्धि सारदेंदु के ब्योमकेश बक्शी साहित्य को सत्यजीत राय के प्रसिद्ध उपन्यास ‘फेलूदा के कारनामे’ के समान हमारे समय के ‘क्लासिक’ का स्थान दिलाती है।

- Description: "भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के प्रमुख क्रांतिकारी शिवराम हरि राजगुरु का जन्म सन् 1908 में पुणे जिले के खेड़ा गाँव में हुआ था। उनके बाल्यकाल में ही पिता का निधन हो जाने के कारण बहुत छोटी उम्र में ही वे विद्याध्ययन करने एवं संस्कृत सीखने वाराणसी आ गए थे। वहीं उन्होंने हिंदू धर्म-ग्रंथों तथा वेदों का अध्ययन तो किया ही, ‘लघुसिद्धांत कौमुदी’ जैसा क्लिष्ट ग्रंथ बहुत कम समय में कंठस्थ कर लिया था। राजगुरु को कसरत (व्यायाम) का बेहद शौक था और छत्रपति शिवाजी की छापामार युद्ध-शैली के वे बड़े प्रशंसक थे। वाराणसी में राजगुरु का संपर्क अनेक क्रांतिकारियों से हुआ। वे चंद्रशेखर आजाद से इतने अधिक प्रभावित हुए कि उनके संगठन हिंदुस्तान सोशलिस्ट रिपब्लिकन आर्मी से तत्काल जुड़ गए। आजाद के संगठन के अंदर उन्हें ‘रघुनाथ’ के छद्म नाम से जाना जाता था। राजगुरु एक अच्छे निशानेबाज भी थे। सांडर्स का वध करने में उन्होंने भगतसिंह तथा सुखदेव का पूरा साथ दिया, जबकि चंद्रशेखर आजाद ने छाया की भाँति उन तीनों को सामरिक सुरक्षा प्रदान की। 23 मार्च, 1939 को भारत माँ के वीर सपूत राजगुरु भगतसिंह व सुखदेव के साथ लाहौर की सेंट्रल जेल में फाँसी पर झूलकर मातृभूमि पर बलिदान हो गए।
