- Description: इतिहास पर लिखना बहुत मुश्किल होता है, और विशेषकर उस इतिहास पर लिखना, जिसके बारे में कहीं कोई विशेष जानकारी नहीं मिलती हो। आकाश माथुर ने एक ऐसा ही विषय उठा लिया। कुँवर चैन सिंह की जगह उन्हीं के साथ शहीद हुई नर्तकी उमेदा की कहानी लिखना। नर्तकी का नाम तक कहीं नहीं मिलता, बस एक टूटी-फूटी समाधि है, जो सीहोर में कुँवर चैन सिंह की छतरी के पास बनी हुई है। समाधि भी धीरे-धीरे टूट रही है, या यूँ कहें कि तोड़ी जा रही है। और कुछ समय में वहाँ समाधि का नामो-निशान तक नहीं मिलेगा। लेकिन अब कम से कम यह तो है कि आकाश ने उसकी कहानी को सुरक्षित कर दिया है। प्रशंसा करनी होगी आकाश की कि उसने एक ऐसी शहीद नर्तकी की कहानी लिखी, जिसके बारे में कहीं एक शब्द भी नहीं लिखा गया है। इस उपन्यास को पढ़ते हुए यह विश्वास करना मुश्किल होता है कि कुछ बहुत छोटे-छोटे सूत्रों से ही इस पूरे उपन्यास को लिख दिया गया है और उमेदा की कहानी रच दी गई है। आकाश ने बहुत मेहनत की है इस उपन्यास पर। इन दिनों जब शोध कर के लिखने की परंपरा ही समाप्त होती जा रही है, ऐसे में यह उपन्यास इसलिए भी महत्त्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि इसके लेखक ने न केवल किताबों की यात्रा की है, बल्कि उन स्थानों की भी यात्रा की, जहाँ-जहाँ इस उपन्यास को लेकर उसे सूत्र मिल सकते थे। जाने किस-किस से मुलाक़ात की, उन सब से, जिनके पास से कोई छोटी से छोटी भी जानकारी मिल सकती थी। यह मेहनत, यह श्रम और यह शोध इस उपन्यास को पढ़ते समय शब्द दर शब्द महसूस होता है। उपन्यास बहुत रोचक बना है, जिसको पढ़ते समय कभी भी पठनीयता की कमी महसूस नहीं होती है। आकाश का यह पहला उपन्यास है, उम्मीद करता हूँ कि आगे और भी उपन्यास आकाश की लेखनी से सामने आएँगे। मेरी शुभकामनाएँ। - पंकज सुबीर

- Description: विमल मित्र का यह प्रयोगधर्मी उपन्यास ‘मैं’ हमारे समय के राजनीतिक एवं सामाजिक यथार्थ को परत-दर-परत सामने लाता है। स्वतंत्रता-पूर्व और पश्चात् की स्थितियों के जो चित्र इस कृति में मौजूद हैं, वे अपने आपमें ऐतिहासिक तथ्य हैं। इसमें एक तरफ़ दिगम्बर व नुटु का जीवन-संघर्ष है तो दूसरी ओर ज्योतिर्मय सेन का अन्तर्द्वन्द्व। यह अन्तर्द्वन्द्व साधारण जन का अन्तर्द्वन्द्व भी है जो सही व ग़लत के बीच अक्सर अनिर्णय का शिकार होकर यथास्थितिवादी बना रहता है। दो पुरुष और एक इतर प्राणी को केन्द्र मानकर चलती इसकी कथा अपने परिवेश से असंपृक्त नहीं रहती। इसमें एक ओर मानवीय प्रेम, अस्मिता तथा स्वतंत्रता का संघर्ष है तो दूसरी ओर व्यवस्था का निरंकुश अमानवीय चरित्र उद्घाटित होता है। कुल मिलाकर तीन प्राणियों को केन्द्र मानकर चलने के बावजूद यह कृति आत्मकथात्मक न होकर बीसवीं शताब्दी के भारत की महागाथा है। विविध आयामी यथार्थ चरित्रों के माध्यम से विमल मित्र एक ऐसा संसार रचते हैं, जिसमें प्रेम और वितृष्णा एक साथ उत्पन्न होते हैं।

- Description: ‘थेंगफाखरी तहसीलदार की ताँबेवाली तलवार’ उन्नीसवीं सदी के उत्तरार्द्ध में असम में बसी बोडो जनजाति की प्रथम महिला स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और ब्रिटिशकालीन भारत की पहली महिला तहसीलदार थेंगफाखरी के जीवन पर आधारित उपन्यास है। इन्दिरा गोस्वामी ने भारत के पूर्वोत्तर अंचल में प्रचलित जनश्रुतियों और उपलब्ध ऐतिहासिक साक्ष्यों के आधार पर, थेंगफाखरी के गुमनाम हो चुके असाधारण व्यक्तित्व को साकार किया है। जब असम में सामाजिक-राजनीतिक स्तर पर एक अस्पष्टता व्याप्त थी और अलग बोडोलैंड के लिए ‘डिवाइड असम फिफ्टी-फिफ्टी’ का नारा गूँज रहा था, वैसे समय में इन्दिरा ने यह उपन्यास लिखकर असमिया और बोडो संस्कृतियों और भाषाओं के मध्य प्रशंसनीय सेतुबन्धन किया। यह उपन्यास थेंगफाखरी के अदम्य साहस और भारतीय स्वाधीनता आन्दोलन में निचले असम के बिजनी राज्य के महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान से परिचित कराता है। औपनिवेशिक शासन के दौरान थेंगफाखरी का तहसीलदार के पद पर नियुक्त होना जहाँ महिला सशक्तीकरण की मिसाल पेश करता है, वहीं अंग्रेज़ों के विरुद्ध क्रान्तिकारी के रूप में थेंगफाखरी के रूपान्तरण से ब्रिटिश शासन की दमनकारी नीतियों का पर्दाफ़ाश भी करता है। उपन्यास में औपनिवेशिक शासन के दौरान असम के सुदूर गाँवों में बसे, सरकारी करों की भीषण मार झेलते ग़रीब किसानों की मानसिक-शारीरिक यंत्रणा मार्मिक ढंग से उजागर हुई है। इसमें सन्देह नहीं कि यह उपन्यास हिन्दी पाठकों को भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के एक अल्पज्ञात अध्याय से रू-ब-रू कराएगा, बल्कि विविधता में एकता को अपनी राष्ट्रीय शक्ति मानने वाली भारतीय दृष्टि को और दृढ़ता प्रदान करेगा।

- Description: भारतीय स्वाधीनता-आन्दोलन में बिना किसी प्रकार की सुयश-प्राप्ति की कामना किए हँसते-हँसते फाँसी के तख़्ते पर झूल जानेवाले मृत्युंजयी वीरों के बलिदान का सर्वाधिक महत्त्व रहा है। उन वीरों को जितनी प्रतिष्ठा और सम्मान प्राप्त होना चाहिए था, उसकी उपेक्षा एवं अवहेलना सत्ता-लोलुप स्वार्थियों ने सदैव ही की है। यदि उन वीरों की नि:स्वार्थ मातृ-भूमि-सेवा का अनुकरण किया गया होता तो भारतीय जनता आज स्वर्ग-सुख का उपभोग निस्सन्देह करती होती। पराधीनता के समय जो भी क्रान्तिकारी साहित्य उपलब्ध था उसे भारतीय युवक बड़े उत्साह से पढ़ते थे; इसीलिए तत्कालीन युवकों में देश के प्रति नि:स्वार्थ सेवा की सच्ची लगन थी। आज भारतीय जनता, विशेषतः युवकों में सुषुप्त त्याग और सेवा की भावना को जाग्रत करने के लिए उन क्रान्तिकारी वीरों के इतिहास के पठन-पाठन की अत्यधिक आवश्यकता है। भारतीय क्रान्तिकारियों के सम्बन्ध में अभी तक बहुत कम लिखा गया है। इन क्रान्तिकारियों के सम्बन्ध में पुस्तक लिखने का कार्य अत्यन्त कठिन है क्योंकि सभी क्रान्तिकारी अपने कार्य-कलापों को एकदम गुप्त रखते थे, उनके निकटतम सहयोगी भी उनकी बहुत सी बातों से अपरिचित रहते थे। प्रस्तुत पुस्तक अमर शहीद स्व. चन्द्रशेखर आज़ाद और भगवतीचरण बोहरा के अत्यन्त विश्वासपात्र, क्रान्तिकारी आन्दोलन में निरन्तर कार्य करनेवाले भाई सुखदेव राज जी ने लिखी है। अस्तु, पुस्तक की उपादेयता निर्विवाद है।
