Jwala Singh is a distinguished cricket coach whose journey reflects resilience and passion for the game. He came from Gorakhpur to Mumbai at the age of 13 to become a cricketer. He was coached by Dronacharya awardee Ramakant Acharekar. Later, he was trained at Dilip Vengsarkar’s and Sandeep Patil’s academies. He represented some junior state teams and many premier clubs and corporates in India and overseas. A promising cricketer in his youth, Jwala’s playing career was cut short by an injury very early in his career. He tried to bounce back as a cricketer, but it was hard for a boy who had nothing, just a dream and hard working ability-without resources. Undeterred by this huge setback, he reinvented himself as a coach at an early age. He went on to mentor some of India’s brightest talents, including international star Prithvi Shaw and Yashaswi Jaiswal. He spotted Yashasvi Jaiswal from Azad Maidan and took him to his home. He treated him as his own son and coached him, and now Yashasvi is one of the best batsmen in the world of Test cricket. He is widely acclaimed as a global cricket coach. He could not represent India as a cricketer, but he has produced more than 20,000 cricketers so far. Today, Jwala’s story is seen as an example of when you have desire, and you find the way. As the founder of the Mumbai Cricket Club and the Jwala Sports Foundation, Singh has dedicated more than two decades to training and guiding young cricketers. Beyond his academies, Singh has organized and promoted competitive platforms like the Mitsui Shoji T-20 league with the support of Mr Lal Bharwaney, offering budding players invaluable match exposure. Some top players like Shivam Dube and Shasank Singh are the discoveries of these tournaments. Former players like Dilip Vengsarkar, Chaminda Vaas, Wasim Jaffer, and Rangana Herath also support this league. Singh’s contribution to the development of cricket at the grassroots level continues to inspire thousands of aspiring cricketers across the country.
