- Description: बाघ और छाता पाँच लोककथाओं की किताब है। इन लोककथाओं का पुनर्लेखन किया है कवि प्रभात ने। हम बार बार कहते हैं कि सबकी अपनी कहानी या कहानियाँ होती हैं। वे भी यूँ तो किसी न किसी स्तर पर सबकी होती हैं। क्योंकि उनका भावजगत सबका भावजगत होता है। लेकिन कुछ कथाएँ हम सबकी होती हैं। बराबरी से। उनका लेखक हम सब हैं। हम में से कोई भी उनमें अपनी कहानी का एक टुकड़ा जोड़ सकता है। इस तरह ये कहानियाँ कितने ही कितने लोगों के लगाए एक हिस्से से बनी हैं। इस बार इनमें एक हिस्सा लगाया है कवि प्रभात ने। जैसे, इस किताब की पहली ही पंक्ति है। जंगल घाटियों में चाँदनी रात हो रही थी। यह कहन कवि प्रभात की अपनी है। ताज़ी भी। सुबह हो रही है एक सामान्य वाक्य है। मगर रात हो रही है ऐसे हम नहीं कहते। रात के होने का वर्णन वैसा ही है जैसे सुबह का आमतौर पर होता है। सूरज की तरह चाँद उग रहा है। क्योंकि इस कहानी में एक साँप है। साँप की सुबह चाँद से होती है। ये पाँचों कहानियाँ बहुत रसीली हैं। रसीली इसलिए कि जैसे, चटपटी चीज़ें सामने आने पर मुंह में रस पैदा होते हैं। और यही रस उस चीज को पचाने में हमारी मदद करते हैं। ऐसे ही ये लोककथाएँ एक रस पैदा करती हैं जो बड़ी से बड़ी कल्पनाओं को, बड़े से बड़े विरोधाभासों को पचाने में या यकीन करने में मदद करता है। लोककथाओं में कुछ भी असम्भव नहीं है। इस तरह की होकर वे अनन्त आशाएँ भी पैदा करती हैं। इन लोककथाओं में इंसान हों या जानवर सब एक किरदार में बदल गए हैं। वे इंसान और जानवर के ऊँच नीच से मुक्त हैं। चोर हैं तो इस तरह हैं कि हाँ वे होते हैं। किसी विलेन की तरह नहीं हैं। बाघ और छाता कहानी में बाघ यानी चार टाँग छाता यानी एक टाँग से पूछता है कि दो टाँग यानी इंसान कहाँ गया हैं। एक टाँग बोलता है कि वह दस टाँग को पकड़ने गया है। चार टाँग यानी बाघ डर जाता है। लोककथाओं में यह बात क्या इस ओर भी इशारा करती है कि एक समय था जब सरल गणित का भी शैशव था और वह इस तरह डराती थी। इस किताब के चित्र देबब्रत घोष ने बनाए हैं। इन लोककथाओं के लोक चित्रों की तरह के चित्र हैं। इतने छोटे छोटे कमाल उनके चित्रों में हैं कि उन पर नज़र जाते ही मन में सूझ की कायली आ जाती है। मसलन, बाघ और छाता कहानी में छाते का चित्र। छाते को बाँधने के फीते और छाते के सिर को चित्रकार ने पूँछ की तरह दिखाया है। और उस पूँछ के घुमाव से पता चलता है कि पूँछ किसकी पूँछ की तरह है।
