- Description: उन्नीसवीं सदी का उत्तरार्द्ध हिन्दी भाषा के स्वरूप निर्माण के लिए एक महत्त्वपूर्ण दौर था। इस समय हिन्दी को एक सुनिश्चित रूप देने के लिए कई स्तरों पर संगठित प्रयास भी हो रहे थे। हिन्दी को राष्ट्रीयता का आधार-बिन्दु मानकर जहाँ विदेशी शासकों का मुकाबला किया जा रहा था, वहीं उसे हिन्दू धर्म से जोड़कर उसे एक धार्मिक प्रतीक के रूप में भी खड़ा किया जा रहा था। नागरी प्रचारिणी सभा की स्थापना इसी सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक वातावरण में 1893 में हुई। यह आश्चर्यजनक है कि हिन्दी भाषा और साहित्य के लिए समर्पित इस संस्था को लेकर हिन्दी में कोई महत्त्वपूर्ण अध्ययन अब तक नहीं हुआ है। युवा अध्येता अमिष वर्मा का यह अध्ययन ‘हिन्दी आन्दोलन और नागरीप्रचारिणी सभा’ इस कमी को दूर करता है। सभी उपलब्ध स्रोतों की श्रम-साध्य पड़ताल के आधार पर सम्पन्न यह शोध हिन्दी आन्दोलन के सन्दर्भ में सभा की शुरुआती गतिविधियों और उसकी भाषा-नीति का विश्लेषण करता है। इस पुस्तक से हम हिन्दी-उर्दू के अन्तर्सम्बन्धों के इतिहास से भी परिचित होते हैं। इसमें उन ऐतिहासिक कारणों को समझने का प्रयास किया गया है जिनके चलते ये दोनों भाषाएँ न सिर्फ अलग हो गईं, बल्कि दो अलग धर्मों से भी जुड़ गईं, और अभिव्यक्ति का माध्यम न रहकर राजनीतिक औजार बन गईं। नागरीप्रचारिणी सभा की 1893-1902 की रिपोर्ट और पदाधिकारियों सम्बन्धी अन्य जानकारियाँ इस पुस्तक की विशेष उपलब्धि है जिसे परिशिष्ट में संयोजित किया गया है।
