- Description: पानी का संकट लगातार गहराता जा रहा है। कहा जाने लगा है कि तीसरा विश्वयुद्ध हुआ तो बहुत ही सम्भव है कि वह पानी को लेकर ही हो। शहरी इलाक़ों में पानी की कमी और उसके लिए रोज़-रोज़ होनेवाले स्थानीय झगड़े शायद इसी की बानगी हैं। उधर ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में जल-स्तर न सिर्फ़ नीचे जा रहा है, पेयजल के रूप में उसका उपयोग भी ख़तरनाक होता जा रहा है। जनसंख्या के साथ-साथ जहाँ पानी की आवश्यकता बड़े पैमाने पर बढ़ी है, वहीं जल-संग्रहण की पारम्परिक पद्धतियों को भी हमने भुला दिया है, जितना जल उपलब्ध है, वह बढ़ते शहरीकरण के परिणामस्वरूप प्रदूषण का शिकार है। आँकड़े बताते हैं कि इस समय देश में रोज़ छह हज़ार से ज़्यादा लोग दूषित जल से पैदा होनेवाली बीमारियों से मर जा रहे हैं। यह पुस्तक इस विकराल संकट से निबटने के लिए एक आरम्भिक ढाँचा सुझाती है जिसका उपयोग हम जल-संरक्षण, और सामान्यत: पानी के प्रति अपना आधारभूत दृष्टिकोण बदलने में कर सकते हैं। वर्षा जल के संग्रहण की पुरानी और नई प्रविधियों, इसके साथ भू-जल स्रोतों की सम्यक् सार-सँभाल, जल-अपव्यय को रोकने की ज़रूरत तथा तरकीबें, सूखे इलाक़ों में जल-संचयन की वैज्ञानिक पद्धति, विभिन्न क़िस्म के बाँधों, कुँओं, तालाबों के निर्माण सम्बन्धी जानकारी, स्वच्छ पेयजल की उपलब्धता, आपूर्ति और वितरण की समस्या और कृषि-उपयोग के लिहाज़ से जल-प्रबन्ध, इन तमाम विषयों पर यह पुस्तक अद्यतन और वैज्ञानिक सामग्री उपलब्ध कराती है।
