- Description: प्रेमचन्दोत्तर हिन्दी कथा साहित्य में यशपाल असाधारण महत्त्व के लेखक हैं। उन्होंने गद्य की प्राय: सभी विधाओं में लिखा है। प्रेमचन्द की तरह ही उनका भी लेखन ख़ाली समय को भरने का एक शग़ल-भर नहीं था। उनके लिए सामाजिक परिवर्तन में उसकी एक स्पष्ट और सुनिर्दिष्ट भूमिका थी। अपने लेखन से वे बहुत कुछ वही काम करना चाहते थे जिसके लिए अपनी तरुणाई में वे सामाजिक और राजनीतिक क्रान्ति की ओर मुड़े थे। उनके उपन्यास, कहानियाँ, आत्म-वृत्तान्त, वैचारिक लेखन, यात्रा-साहित्य यानी उनका लिखा सब कुछ इसी एक सूत्र में गुँथा और पिरोया गया लगता है। इस सबका एक ही घोषित-अघोषित लक्ष्य है—एक बेहतर दुनिया की खोज और निर्माण। विवादों से बचकर निकलना यशपाल की प्रवृत्ति नहीं है। सब कहीं और प्रायः हमेशा वे जैसे विवादों को आमंत्रित करते हैं, क्योंकि उनका विश्वास था—वादे-वादे जायते तत्त्वबोध। ‘यशपाल रचनावली’ के चौदह खंडों की योजना वस्तुतः उनके साहित्य में निरन्तर बढ़ती हुई इसी दिलचस्पी का परिणाम है। हर बड़े और समर्थ लेखक की तरह यशपाल भी अपने समय के प्रति सच्चे रहकर ही आज हमारे समय के लिए और भी सार्थक, प्रामाणिक एवं विश्वसनीय हैं। उनकी रचनावली की सार्थकता का सबसे बड़ा प्रमाण यही है कि जिस और जैसे समाज का निर्माण वे करना चाहते थे, उसकी आवश्यकता इधर बहुत शिद्दत से महसूस की जाती रही है। अपने समय और समाज को यशपाल ने जितनी अच्छी तरह समझा और जाना था, उसके उदाहरण भारतीय समाज में अधिक नहीं हैं। इसे जानने और समझने की भरपूर क़ीमत भी उन्होंने चुकाई। इस तरह यह रचनावली प्रकारान्तर से इस सच को भी सामने लाती है कि साहित्य, कला एवं विचार की दुनिया में उठाया जानेवाला जोखिम ही किसी लेखक के बड़े और सार्थक होने की एक ज़रूरी शर्त हो सकता है। ‘यशपाल रचनावली’ के पहले खंड में यशपाल के उपन्यास ‘दादा कामरेड’, ‘देशद्रोही’ और ‘गीता’; दूसरे खंड में ‘दिव्या’, ‘अमिता’ और ‘अप्सरा का शाप’; तीसरे खंड में ‘झूठा सच : वतन और देश’; चौथे खंड में ‘झूठा सच : देश का भविष्य’; पाँचवें खंड में ‘मनुष्य के रूप में’, ‘बारह घंटे’ और ‘क्यों फँसें’; छठे खंड में ‘तेरी मेरी उसकी बात’ और सातवें खंड में उनके दो अनूदित उपन्यास ‘पक्का कदम’ और ‘जुलैखाँ’ शामिल हैं। ‘रचनावली’ के आठवें खंड में यशपाल के कहानी-संग्रह—‘पिंजरे की उड़ान’, ‘वो दुनिया’, ‘तर्क का तूफ़ान’, ‘अभिशप्त’ और ‘ज्ञानदान’; नौवें खंड में ‘भस्मावृत्त चिंगारी’, ‘फूलों का कुर्ता’, ‘धर्मयुद्ध’, ‘उत्तराधिकारी’ ‘चित्र का शीर्षक’ और ‘तुमने क्यों कहा था मैं सुन्दर हूँ’; दसवें खंड में ‘वो भैरवी’, ‘उत्तमी की माँ’, ‘सच बोलने की भूल’, ‘खच्चर और आदमी’, ‘भूख के तीन दिन’ और ‘लैम्प शेड’ शामिल हैं। वहीं ‘रचनावली’ के ग्यारहवें खंड में निबन्ध-संग्रह—‘मार्क्सवाद’, ‘गांधीवाद की शव-परीक्षा’, ‘रामराज्य की कथा’, ‘देखा सोचा समझा’ और ‘बीवी जी कहती हैं मेरा चेहरा रोबीला है’; बारहवें खंड में ‘न्याय का संघर्ष’, ‘चक्कर क्लब’, ‘बात-बात में बात’ और ‘जग का मुजरा’; तेरहवें खंड में यशपाल के कहानी-संग्रह—‘लोहे की दीवार के दोनों ओर’, ‘राहबीती’ और ‘स्वर्गोद्यान : बिना साँप’ तथा कथा-नाटक ‘नशे-नशे की बात’ शामिल हैं, तो चौदहवें खंड ‘सिंहावलोकन’ में यशपाल के क्रान्तिकारी जीवन के संस्मरण को शामिल किया गया है।

भारत-पाक विभाजन एक ऐसी त्रासदी है जिसकी भीषणता और भारतीय जन-जीवन पर पड़े उसके प्रभाव को न तो देश के एक बड़े हिस्से ने महसूस किया और न साहित्य में ही उसे उतना महत्त्व दिया गया जितना दिया जाना चाहिए था। देश की आज़ादी और विभाजन को अब सत्तर साल हो रहे हैं; फिर भी ढूँढ़ने चलें तो कम से कम कथा-साहित्य में हमें ऐसा बहुत कुछ नहीं मिलता जिससे इतिहास के उस अध्याय को महसूस किया जा सके।
यह आत्मवृत्त इस मायने में महत्त्वपूर्ण है कि इसमें उस वक़्त विभाजन को याद किया जा रहा है जब देश में धार्मिक और साम्प्रदायिक आधारों पर समाज को बाँटने की प्रक्रिया कहीं ज़्यादा आक्रामक और निर्द्वन्द्व इरादों के साथ चलाई जा रही है। पाकिस्तान को एक पड़ोसी देश के बजाय जनमानस में एक स्थायी शत्रु के रूप में स्थापित किया जा रहा है; और सामाजिक समरसता को गृहयुद्ध की व्याकुलता के सामने हीन साबित किया जा रहा है। इस उपन्यास का प्रथम पुरुष मृत्युशैया पर आख़िरी पल की प्रतीक्षा करते हुए सहज ही उन दिनों की यात्रा पर निकल जाता है जब लाखों लोग अचानक अपने ही घरों और ज़मीनों पर विदेशी घोषित कर दिए गए थे, और उन्हें नए सिरे से ‘अपना मुल्क’ ढूँढ़ने के लिए ख़ून के दरिया में धकेल दिया गया था।
उम्मीद है कि इस पुस्तक में आया विभाजन का वृत्तान्त हमें उस ख़तरे से आगाह करेगा जिसकी तरफ़ आज की फूहड़ राजनीति हमे ले जाने की कोशिश कर रही है।
