The story is told. The curtain has been brought down on it. Two life sentences have been run. And I have brought my recollections of them within the cover of this book. They are narrated in brief and put together within the narrowest. When I came into this world, God sent me here, possibly on a sort of life sentence. It was the span of life allotted to me by time to stay in this "prison-house of life". This story is a chapter of the book of life, a long story that has not yet ended. You can finish reading the book in a day, while I had to live it for 14 long years of transportation. And if the story is so tiresome, unendurable and disgusting to you, how much must have been the living of it for me! Every moment of those 14 years in that jail has been an agony of the soul and the body to me and to my fellow convicts in that jail. "राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ की स्थापना सन् 1925 में डॉ. केशवराव बलिराम हेडगेवार ने की थी, लेकिन इसे वैचारिक आधार द्वितीय सरसंघचालक माधवराव सदाशिवराव गोलवलकर ‘श्रीगुरुजी’ ने प्रदान किया था। संघ निर्माण के मात्र पंद्रह साल बाद ही डॉ. हेडगेवार गुजर गए, लेकिन अवसान से पहले उन्होंने श्रीगुरुजी को संघ का द्वितीय सरसंघचालक नियुक्त कर दिया था। द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध, भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन, आजाद हिंद फौज और नेताजी का देश की आजादी में योगदान, भारत विभाजन, देश की आजादी, कश्मीर विलय, गांधी हत्या, देश का पहला आम चुनाव, चीन से भारत की हार, पाकिस्तान के साथ 1965 व 1971 की लड़ाई—भारत का इतिहास बदलने और बनाने वाली इन घटनाओं के महत्त्वपूर्ण काल में न केवल श्रीगुरुजी संघ के प्रमुख थे, बल्कि अपनी सक्रियता और विचारधारा से उन्होंने इन सबको प्रभावित भी किया था। तत्कालीन भारतवर्ष के इतिहास में समादृत एक आध्यात्मिक पुरुष ही नहीं, सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक, जीवन-मूल्यों के प्रसारक के रूप में ख्यात ‘श्रीगुरुजी’ की प्रामाणिक जीवन-गाथा।

यह किताब खुद को रचने और अपनी बात पहुँचाने की सुजाता पारमिता की अन्तिम कोशिश और अन्तिम पुकार है। अनवरत संघर्ष में कुछ पलों के सर्जनात्मक संयोजन से ही यह किताब निर्मित हो पाई है जिसे खुद सुजाता ने तैयार किया। किताब में कुल पच्चीस आलेख शामिल हैं। किताब का पहला लेख ‘खैरलांजी-दलित-नरसंहार’ भारत में जाति आधारित नरसंहार का मानचित्र प्रस्तुत करता है। सवर्ण समाज के हित में कार्य करनेवाली सरकारों के औचित्य पर सवाल खड़ा करनेवाले इस आलेख की जद में न्याय व्यवस्था भी है। खैरलांजी हत्याकांड सन् 2006 में हुआ था। इस हत्याकांड में एक महार परिवार के सभी सदस्यों की बहुत बेदर्दी से हत्या कर दी गई थी। अब पीड़ित परिवार का अन्तिम परिजन भी न्याय की आशा में दुनिया छोड़ चुका है।

सुजाता फुले-अम्बेडकरी चिन्तन से निर्मित थीं। वह जानती थीं कि दूसरे संस्थानों की तरह देश की न्याय व्यावस्था भी जातिवादी सोच के नियन्त्रण में है, इस मामले में उससे न्याय नहीं हो पाएगा। और ऐसा ही हुआ।

‘ठक्कर बापा’ अद्भुत व्यक्तित्व के स्वामी थे। लोगों का कहना था कि वे अपने आप में एक संस्था थे। वे जिस युग में थे, वहाँ समाज के दुर्बल अंग की उपेक्षा की जा रही थी; तब बापा ने दलितों और पिछड़े वर्ग को साथ लेकर प्रगति का रास्ता पकड़ा। उनकी अडिग लोक-सेवा ने हर दीन-दुःखी और गरीब को सम्मान दिया और उन्हें सबका बापा बना दिया। राष्ट्रपिता बापू भी उन्हें बापा ही कहा करते थे। अपने जीवन के अंतिम क्षण तक जिस अपूर्व निष्ठा, अनन्य भक्ति व अथक परिश्रम से उन्होंने अपना सेवा-व्रत निभाया, वह निस्संदेह बेजोड़ कहा जा सकता है। बापा विनम्रता और सरलता की मूरत थे; जब काका कालेलकर ने उनसे लेखन के लिए कहा तो वे बोले, ‘‘मेरे जीवन में ऐसा कुछ नहीं है, जो लिखने लायक हो।’’ उन्हें भाषण देना नहीं आता था और न ही वे साहित्यिक भाषा में लेख लिखते थे, बस उन्हें डायरी लिखने का शौक था। मानवता को सबसे बड़ा धर्म मानकर शोषित-उपेक्षितों के कल्याण और सुख के लिए अपना पूरा जीवन समर्पित करनेवाले सेवाव्रती कर्मयोगी ठक्कर बापा की प्रेरक-पठनीय जीवनी है यह पुस्तक।
