मुहल्ले भर घूमकर तीसरे पहर रासमणि घर लौट रही थीं। आगे-आगे उनकी पोती मु. रही थी, जिसकी उम्र कोई दस-बारह साल की थी। गाँव का सँकरा रास्ता, जिसकी बगल की खूँटी में बँधा हुआ बकरी का बच्चा एक किनारे पड़ा सो रहा था। उस पर नजर पड़ते ही पोती को लक्ष्यकर वे चिल्ला पड़ीं, '' अरी छोकरी, कहीं रस्सी मत लाँव जाना ! सामने रस्सी मत 'लाँघ गई क्या ? हरामजादी, आसमान में देखती हुई चलती है। आँख से दिखलाई नहीं पड़ा कि सामने बकरी बँथी है ?'' पोती ने सहज भाव से कहा, '“बकरी तो सो रही है दादी।'' “सो रही है तो क्या दोष नहीं लगा ? आज मंगलवार के दिन तू बेखटके रस्सी लाँघ गई ?!!
