- Description: सुपरिचित पत्रकार विवेक अग्रवाल की यह किताब मुम्बई की बारबालाओं की ज़िन्दगी की अब तक अनकही दास्तान को तफ़सील से बयान करती है। यह किताब बारबालाओं की ज़िन्दगी की उन सच्चाइयों से परिचित कराती है जो निहायत तकलीफ़देह हैं। बारबालाएँ अपने हुस्न और हुनर से दूसरों का मनोरंजन करती हैं। यह उनकी ज़ाहिर दुनिया है। लेकिन शायद ही कोई जानता होगा कि दूर किसी शहर में मौजूद अपने परिवार से अपनी सच्चाई को लगातर छुपाती हुई वे उसकी हर ज़िम्मेदारी उठाती हैं। वे अपने परिचितों की मददगार बनती हैं। लेकिन अपनी हसरतों को वे अक्सर मरता हुआ देखने को विवश होती हैं। कुछ बारबालाएँ अकूत दौलत और शोहरत हासिल करने में कामयाब हो जाती हैं, पर इसके बावजूद जो उन्हें हासिल नहीं हो पाता, वह है सामाजिक प्रतिष्ठा और सुकून-भरी सामान्य पारिवारिक ज़िन्दगी। विवेक बतलाते हैं कि बारबालाओं की ज़िन्दगी के तमाम कोने अँधियारों से इस क़दर भरे हैं कि उनमें रोशनी की एक अदद लकीर की गुंजाइश भी नज़र नहीं आती। इससे निकलने की जद्दोजहद बारबालाओं को कई बार अपराध और थाना-पुलिस के ऐसे चक्कर में डाल देती है, जो एक और दोज़ख़ है। लेकिन नाउम्मीदी-भरी इस दुनिया में विवेक हमें शर्वरी सोनावणे जैसी लड़की से भी मिलवाते हैं जो बारबालाओं को जिस्मफ़रोशी के धन्धे में धकेलनेवालों के ख़िलाफ़ क़ानूनी जंग छेड़े हुए है। किन्नर भी इस दास्तान के एक अहम किरदार हैं, जो डांसबारों में नाचते हैं। अपनी ख़ूबसूरती की बदौलत इस पेशे में जगह मिलने से वे सम्मानित महसूस करते हैं। हालाँकि उनकी ज़िन्दगी भी किसी अन्य बारबाला की तरह तमाम झमेलों में उलझी हुई है। एक नई बहस प्रस्तावित करती किताब।
