प्रस्तुत बृहत् संस्करण वर्मा जी के मानदंडों के अनुरूप तथा वर्तमान आवश्यकताओं को ध्यान में रखकर तैयार किया गया है। सैकड़ों शब्दों को ढूँढ़-ढूँढ़कर इस कोश में स्थान दिया गया है जो पहले से हमारी भाषा के अंग हैं, परन्तु जिनका आज तक कोशों में समावेश नहीं हो पाया। आंचलिक तथा प्रादेशिक रचनाकारों के कुछ ऐसे शब्दों को भी इस कोश में स्थान दिया गया है जो हिन्दी साहित्य में अपना स्थान बना पाए हैं। समस्त पदों में पूर्वपद या उत्तरपद के रूप में कुछ विशिष्ट शब्दों के योग से बने नए शब्दों की बहुलता भी इस कोश में दर्शनीय है। विज्ञान, प्रौद्योगिकी, वाणिज्य, प्रशासन, जनसंचार आदि क्षेत्रों में प्रयुक्त होनेवाले अंग्रेज़ी भाषा के ऐसे शब्दों को भी इस कोश में स्थान दिया गया है, जिनका व्यापक रूप से इधर प्रयोग हो रहा है। इस कोश में पहली बार ऐसे सैकड़ों क्रिया-विशेषण, विशेषण तथा संज्ञा शब्दों की प्रविष्टियाँ मिलेंगी जो सम्बन्धबोधकों की तरह प्रयुक्त होते हैं। इधर सहस्रों हिन्दी शब्दों में नए अर्थ विकसित हुए हैं। ऐसे अर्थों को सँजोने तथा विश्लेषित करने का काम इस बृहत् संस्करण का विशेष ध्येय रहा है।
अरबी, फ़ारसी, तुर्की आदि के अधिकतर प्रचलित शब्दों को मूल शुद्ध रूप में दिखाने का प्रयास किया गया है। अनेक शब्द भेदों में जिन शब्दों को बाँटा जा सकता है, ऐसे शब्दों को प्रयोग के आधार पर क्रिया-विशेषण, योजक, निपात, विस्मयादिक, सम्बन्धबोधक आदि नामों से अभिहित किया गया है। लिंग-सम्बन्धी भी अनेक भूलें ठीक की गई हैं। अनेक शब्दों की व्युत्पत्ति में भी सुधार किया गया है।
इधर सहस्रों नए शब्द हमारी भाषा में प्रविष्ट हुए हैं। इनमें से जिनका पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में विशेष रूप से प्रयोग देखने को मिला, उन्हें इस नवीन संस्करण में सम्मिलित कर लिया गया है।
निश्चय ही यह कोश, विद्यार्थियों, लेखकों, अध्यापकों, सम्पादकों, पत्रकारों, शोधार्थियों इत्यादि के लिए अत्यन्त उपयोगी तथा विश्वसनीय है।
