- Description: सन 1947 तक गैर-लड़ाकू करार दिए गए और भारतीय सेना में योद्धाओं के रूप में शामिल होने से वंचित अदर इंडियन क्लासिक्स (ओ.आई.सी. ), घुड़सवार सेना के सी स्क्वाड्रन का हिस्सा थे। महत्त्वाकांक्षी पीटी-76 उभयचर टैंकों से सुसज्जित होने के कारण उन्हें पूर्वी पाकिस्तान से आनेवाले खतरे का मुकाबला करने के लिए महत्त्वपूर्ण बोयरा इलाके के पास कबोदक नदी को पार करने का निर्देश दिया गया। 21 नवंबर, 1971 को पाकिस्तानी सेना के जो उम्दा फौजी थे और डींगें हाँकते थे कि एक पाकिस्तानी सैनिक तीन भारतीय सैनिकों के बराबर है, गरीबपुर में उनका टैंक बनाम टैंक के मुकाबले से पाला पड़ा। एक ही झटके में चौदह अमेरिकी एम-24 चाफी टैंक वाली तीन (अलग-अलग) बख्तरबंद स्क्वाड्रन पूरी तरह तबाह कर दी गईं और पैदल सैनिकों की दो बटालियन बुरी तरह रौंद दी गईं। वहीं दो पीटी-76 टैंकों के नुकसान के बदले तीन साब्रे एफ-86 जेट मार गिराए गए। भारतीयों और मुक्ति वाहिनी को सबक सिखाने के लिए जनरल एएके नियाजी ने जिस सबसे बड़े हमले की योजना बनाई थी, वह धुआँ-धुआँ हो गई । 45वीं घुड़सवार सेना ने भारतीय इतिहास में एक नया अध्याय लिख दिया था। 300 से 700 मीटर के इलाके में लड़ी गई लड़ाई ने एक स्क्वाड्रन के हाथों दूसरी स्क्वाड्रन की पूरी तबाही की एक अद्भुत मिसाल कायम की। इसने अजेय होने के पाकिस्तानी भ्रम को तोड़ दिया और जनरल याहया खान समेत उनके जनरलों की मंडली में खलबली मचा दी । सातवाँ बेड़ा जब तक बंगाल की खाड़ी में दाखिल होता, तब तक पाकिस्तान के 93,000 सैनिक मित्र वाहिनी (भारत-बांग्लादेश की संयुक्त सेना) के आगे आत्मसमर्पण कर चुके थे, और बांग्लादेश आजाद हो चुका था।
