- Description: यह किताब जीवन के दो पक्षों के बारे में है। एक स्त्री का और दूसरा उपनिवेश का। न इस उपनिवेश को समझना आसान है और न स्त्री को। अगर यह उपनिवेश वही होता जिससे बीसवीं सदी के मध्य में कई देशों और सभ्यताओं ने मुक्ति पाई थी तो शायद हम इसे राजनीतिक और आर्थिक परतंत्रता की संरचना करार दे सकते थे। अगर यह उपनिवेश वही होता जिससे लड़ने के लिए राष्ट्रवादी क्रान्तियाँ की गई थीं और आत्मनिर्भर अर्थव्यवस्था की अवधारणा पेश की गई थी तो शायद हम इसके ख़िलाफ़ उपनिवेशवाद विरोधी प्रत्यय की रचना आसानी से कर सकते थे। यह नवउपनिवेश के नाम से परिभाषित हो चुकी अन्तरराष्ट्रीय वित्तीय पूँजी की अप्रत्यक्ष हुकूमत भी नहीं है। यह तो अन्तराष्ट्रीय वित्तीय पूँजी, पितृसत्ता, इतरलिंगी यौन चुनाव और पुरुष-वर्चस्व की ज्ञानमीमांसा का उपनिवेश है जिसकी सीमाएँ मनोजगत से व्यवहार-जगत तक और राजसत्ता से परिवार तक फैली हैं। दूसरे पक्ष में होते हुए भी स्त्री पाले के दूसरी तरफ़ नहीं है। वह उपनिवेश के बीच में खड़ी है। उपनिवेश के ख़िलाफ़ संघर्ष उसका आत्म-संघर्ष भी है और यही स्थिति स्त्री को समझने की मुश्किलों के कारण बनी हुई है। स्त्री मुक्ति-कामना से छटपटा रही है लेकिन उपनिवेश के वर्चस्व से उसका मनोजगत आज भी आक्रान्त है। गुज़रे ज़मानों के उपनिवेशवाद विरोधी संघर्षों की तरह औरत की दुनिया के सिपहसालार उपनिवेश के साथ हाथ-भर का वह अन्तराल स्थापित नहीं कर पाए हैं जो इस लड़ाई में कामयाबी की पहली शर्त है। ‘उपनिवेश में स्त्री : मुक्ति-कामना की दस वार्ताएँ’ इस अन्तराल की स्थापना की दिशा में एक प्रयास है। ये वार्ताएँ कारख़ाने और दफ़्तर में काम करती हुई स्त्री, लिखती-रचती हुई स्त्री, प्रेम के द्वन्द्व में उलझी हुई स्त्री, मानवीय गरिमा की खोज में जुटी हुई स्त्री, बौद्धिक बनती हुई स्त्री और भाषा व विमर्श के संजाल में फँसी हुई स्त्री से सम्बन्धित हैं।

पृथ्वी जैसी हमें दिखती है वैसी अतीत में नहीं थी और न ही भविष्य में रहेगी। धरती पर तरल जल का होना ही इसे ब्रह्मांड में विशिष्ट बना देता है। सौरमंडल में किसी भी ग्रह अथवा उनके उपग्रहों के धरातल पर तरल जल उपलब्ध नहीं है। तरल जल का सीधा सम्बन्ध जीवन से है। पृथ्वी की वे परिस्थितियाँ जिन्होंने महासागरों तथा वायुमंडल का निर्माण होने दिया और उन्हें क़ायम रखा, अन्य ग्रहों पर नहीं है। परन्तु ब्रह्मांड बहुत विशाल है, और असंख्य ग्रह दूसरे सितारों के चारों ओर उसी तरह परिक्रमारत हैं जैसे हमारे सौरमंडल के ग्रह। अतएव उनमें से कुछ ग्रहों पर तरल जल के महासागरों एवं पृथ्वी जैसी परिस्थितियों के होने की सम्भावनाओं से इनकार नहीं किया जा सकता। और यदि ऐसा है तो वहाँ जीवन भी होगा ।
कैसा होगा धरती का भविष्य? टेक्टानिक गतिविधियों से अनुप्रेरित महाद्विपीय संरचना अगले 25 से 35 करोड़ वर्षों में एक बृहत् अखंडित महाद्वीप का रूप ले सकती है, जैसा कि अतीत में एक से अधिक बार हो चुका है। अगले चार अरब वर्षों में सूर्य की चमक क्रमबद्ध ढंग से बढेगी जिसका अर्थ है कि पृथ्वी को अधिक ऊर्जा मिलेगी जिसके कारण सिलिकेट खनिजों का कालाधारित क्षरण अधिक होगा जिससे धरती का कार्बन-सिलिकेट-चक्र प्रतिकूलत: प्रभावित होने लगेगा जिसके फलस्वरूप वायुमंडल में कार्बन-डाईऑक्साइड गैस का स्तर गिरेगा। धीरे-धीरे वनस्पतियों का लोप होता जाएगा और वानस्पतिक खाद्य-शृंखला टूट जाएगी जिससे उन पर आधारित समस्त प्राणि जगत् के अस्तित्व पर ही संकट आ जाएगा।
‘पृथ्वी’ विज्ञान के कई रहस्यों से पर्दा हटाती एक बेहद महत्त्वपूर्ण पुस्तक है।

Soon, however, Birsa saw through the trickery and not merely did he convert to Hinduism again, but he also convinced several Adivasis. They had converted to Christianity to embrace Hinduism again. It was this Birsa Munda who later became the "God" of the Adivasis and came to be regarded as "Dharti-Aba" or "Father of the Universe." In an attempt to capture Birsa, the British administration was jolted and announced a reward of Rs 500 for his arrest. The British trick worked, and some greedy informers of the British caught Birsa when he was sleeping at night. This book, a biography of the great Adivasi leader, Birsa Munda, tries to capture some of the brave glimpses from the life of a daring revolutionary who gave up all he had to fight for the rights of his people and to ensure the freedom of his motherland.
