- Description: आज से हज़ारों वर्ष पूर्व भी मनुष्य अपने घर के चारों ओर फूल, घास व कमल के तालाब आदि लगाता रहा होगा। बेबीलोन के ‘हैंगिंग गार्डन’ विश्व के सात आश्चर्यों में एक माने गए हैं। आज जब हम गृह वाटिका की बात करते हैं तो हमारे सामने उद्यान कला का एक दीर्घ इतिहास साकार हो उठता है। रूप योजना कैसी भी क्यों न रही हो, घर के भीतर, आसपास, रास्तों, दीवारों को, फूलों की झाड़ियों, लताओं, वृक्षों द्वारा सजाने की परम्परा बहुत पुरानी रही है। गुफाओं में रहनेवाले मानव ने जब घर बनाकर स्थिर जीवनचर्या शुरू की तो उसे सजाने-सँवारने का काम भी शुरू कर दिया। जीवन में जब स्थिरता आ जाती है तो मानव-मन कला-सौन्दर्य की ओर झुक जाता है। प्राचीन भारतीय उद्यानों में लतामंडप, पुष्पित लताओं, झाड़ियों वाली वीथियाँ, कुंज, सुगन्धित पुष्प व कमल फलों के जलाशयों का वर्णन मिलता है। वासन्ती लता, लवंग-लता, नवमल्लिका जैसी सुगन्धित लताओं एवं वृक्षों के झुरमुट से घिरी वीथियाँ एवं वाटिकाएँ, जहाँ गृहवासी अपने परिवार के सदस्यों के साथ आमोद-प्रमोद के क्षण व्यतीत करता था। मुग़लकालीन उद्यान सीढ़ीदार होते थे, साथ-साथ उनमें पानी की नहरें व फुहारें अवश्य होते थे। मध्य एशिया से सर्द एवं फलों से भरे प्रदेश से आए मुग़ल बादशाहों ने वहाँ की स्मृति को याद रखते हुए और भारत की गर्मी से बचने के लिए जल की योजना वाटिकाओं में ख़ूब बनाई। उद्यान की योजना का रूप, आकार चाहे अलग रहा हो परन्तु मूल में एक प्रवृत्ति ही काम करती रही—वह थी प्रकृति की सुन्दर आकर्षक विविध प्रकार की वनस्पतियों, पौधों, झाड़ियों, वृक्षों, लताओं को आकर्षक रूप में लगाना, उसे सँजोना और प्राकृतिक भूदृश्यों को अपनी कल्पना के पुट द्वारा अपने घर के भीतर प्रस्तुत करना। उद्यान कला के भी मूलभूत सिद्धान्त लगभग सभी जगहों पर एक जैसे ही होते हैं। इन्हें जानने व समझने के बाद पौधों की देखभाल का कार्य काफ़ी सरल हो जाता है। उद्यान कला एक वैज्ञानिक विषय है, परन्तु शौक़ के रूप में अपनाए जाने पर यह आनन्द व अनुभव का विषय बन जाता है।

- Description: पुरुषोत्तम अग्रवाल हमारे समय की एक महत्त्वपूर्ण बौद्धिक और सर्जनात्मक उपस्थिति हैं। उनका लेखन रूप और अन्तर्वस्तु की दृष्टि से विविध और विशाल है। उनकी कई स्वतंत्र छवियाँ हैं, लेकिन कोई एक छवि नहीं है। चिन्तक, आलोचक, कवि, कथाकार, विमर्शकार, कार्यकर्ता, पत्रकार, व्यंग्यकार, प्राध्यापक, फ़िल्म-विशेषज्ञ, धर्मशास्त्री से मिलकर उनकी छवि बनती है। उनकी समग्र छवि की परख और पहचान के लिए उनके सम्पूर्ण लेखन का परिचय प्राप्त करना जितना ज़रूरी है, उतना ही कठिन भी। उनका समग्र पाठ श्रमसाध्य है, इसलिए उनकी रचनाओं का एक प्रतिनिधि चयन और प्रकाशन विलम्बित माँग थी जिसे इस संचयन के प्रकाशन से पूरा करने का प्रयास किया गया है। नवीन और प्राचीन वैश्विक वैचारिक निरूपणों और साहित्यिक सिद्धान्तों की स्पष्ट समझदारी और उनसे संवाद की प्रवृत्ति पुरुषोत्तम अग्रवाल की शक्ति है, जो उनके लेखन को निरन्तर आकर्षक और विचारोत्तेजक बनाए रखती है। इसी से उनमें बौद्धिक साहस उत्पन्न होता है, इस साहस का एक प्रमाण है अस्मितावाद की शक्ति और सीमाओं का तटस्थ व साहसपूर्ण मूल्यांकन। इसी साहस का एक और प्रमाण है—धर्म, अध्यात्म और साम्प्रदायिकता पर उनका रुख़। वे धर्म को सत्ता-तंत्र मानते हैं लेकिन आध्यात्मिकता को सहज मानवीय प्रवृत्ति के रूप में देखते हैं। कबीर, कार्ल मार्क्स, महात्मा गांधी और जवाहरलाल नेहरू के धर्म और अध्यात्म सम्बन्धी विचारों के आधार पर अपनी अवधारणा को तैयार करते हैं। उनकी दृढ़ मान्यता है कि धर्म का फलतः साम्प्रदायिकता का, उन्मूलन तभी सम्भव है जब आध्यात्मिकता को मानव सुलभ मानकर धर्म से उसे स्वायत्त किया जाए। पुरुषोत्तम अग्रवाल के लेखन का एक बड़ा हिस्सा भक्तिकाल पर है। ख़ास तौर पर कबीर पर। जाति, धर्म, औपनिवेशिक आधुनिकता, अस्मितावाद इत्यादि वैचारिक निरूपणों से आच्छादित कबीर के कवि रूप को सामने लाकर उन्होंने उनकी प्रासंगिकता को पुनः अनुभूत बनाया है। बौद्धिक बेचैनी, साहित्यिक अभिरुचि, सांस्कृतिक अन्तर्दृष्टि और आलोचकीय विवेक के साथ समकालीन जीवन के विविध पक्षों और प्रश्नों पर विचार करनेवाले बुद्धिजीवी विरल हैं। पुरुषोत्तम अग्रवाल की पत्रकारिता इस दृष्टि से आश्वस्तिदायक है। उनका कथा साहित्य विविध संकटों से आच्छन्न बौद्धिक-जीवन के संघर्ष और जिजीविषा को सामने लाता है। उनके साहित्य में फासीवाद के देशी संस्करण के दबाव में अभिव्यक्ति के संकट और कला-बुद्धि-विरोधी दमघोंटू वातावरण की भयावहता का एहसास मुक्तिबोध की याद दिलाता है।

It is a symbol of India’s soul and national identity. That’s why when the Rath Yatra was taken out, Hindus and Muslims participated in it alike. This national integration caused heart burns to those vested interests that were in the habit of taking the advantage of social division.

- Description: हिंदी तथा अन्यान्य भाषाओं के व्याकरणों से उचित सहायता लेने पर भी इस पुस्तक में जो विचार प्रकट किए गए हैं और जो सिद्धांत निश्चित किए गए हैं, वे साहित्यिक हिंदी से ही संबंध रखते हैं। यहाँ यह कह देना अनुचित न होगा कि हिंदी व्याकरण की छोटी-मोटी कई पुस्तकें उपलब्ध होते हुए भी हिंदी में, इस समय अपने विषय और ढंग की यही एक व्यापक और संभवतः मौलिक पुस्तक है। इसमें प्रसिद्ध वैयाकरण श्री कामताप्रसाद गुरु का कई गं्रथों का अध्ययन और कई वर्षों का परिश्रम तथा विषय का अनुराग एवं स्वार्थत्याग सम्मिलित है। इस व्याकरण में अन्यान्य विशेषताओं के साथ-साथ एक बड़ी विशेषता यह भी है कि नियमों के स्पष्टीकरण के लिए इसमें जो उदाहरण दिए गए हैं, वे अधिकतर हिंदी के भिन्न-भिन्न कालों के प्रतिष्ठित और प्रामाणिक लेखकों के ग्रंथों से लिये गए हैं। इस विशेषता के कारण पुस्तक में यथासंभव अंधपरंपरा अथवा कृत्रिमता का दोष नहीं आने पाया है। अपने गुण-वैशिष्ट्य और प्रस्तुति के कारण हिंदी व्याकरण पर अब तक की सबसे प्रामाणिक और व्यावहारिक पुस्तक।
