पिछले दो-तीन दशकों में हिन्दी नवजागरण और हिन्दी-नागरी आन्दोलन पर केन्द्रित अध्ययनों ने हिन्दी लोकवृत्त की हमारी समझ को निश्चित ही समृद्ध किया है। लेकिन जहाँ तक हिन्दी के भाषाई संगठनों का सवाल है तो ये अध्ययन हिन्दीभाषी क्षेत्र के इन भाषाई संगठनों के समूचे वजूद को प्रायः भाषायी राजनीति के चश्मे से ही देखते हैं। कहना न होगा कि ऐसा कोई भी मूल्यांकन उन भाषायी संगठनों की बहुआयामी गतिविधियों के आकलन का एक संकीर्ण और सीमित नजरिया है। ऐसे मूल्यांकनों में इन भाषायी संगठनों की वह भूमिका परिदृश्य से ओझल हो जाती है, जो वे हिन्दी लोकवृत्त में ज्ञानोत्पादन की प्रक्रिया में निभा रहे थे। इसलिए मौजूदा पुस्तक में हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन का इतिहास लिखते हुए उसे सिर्फ भाषा की राजनीति या हिन्दी-नागरी आन्दोलन में हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन की भूमिका तक ही सीमित नहीं किया गया है, बल्कि हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन की बहुआयामी गतिविधियों और हिन्दी लोकवृत्त में ज्ञान के सृजन में सम्मेलन के योगदान को समग्रता से विश्लेषित करने का प्रयास भी इसमें हुआ है।
‘भाषा की राजनीति, ज्ञान की परम्परा’ एक संस्था के रूप में हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन के इतिहास को उसकी समग्रता में प्रस्तुत करने का प्रयास है। इसमें हिन्दी लोकवृत्त के निर्माण में हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन की भूमिका और उसके योगदान का विस्तृत विश्लेषण तो हुआ ही है। साथ ही, हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन के स्थापना की ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमि और उसकी शुरुआती गतिविधियों, सम्मेलन के वार्षिक अधिवेशनों, सम्मेलन द्वारा कराई जाने वाली परीक्षाओं और उसके प्रकाशनों की चर्चा भी इस पुस्तक में विस्तार से की गई है। हिन्दी-नागरी आन्दोलन से सम्बद्ध अन्य संस्थाओं के साथ मिलकर सम्मेलन ने कैसे काम किया, इसका विश्लेषण भी इसमें हुआ है। बीसवीं सदी के पूर्वार्ध में भाषा की राजनीति ने कैसे करवट ली और हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन की इसमें क्या भूमिका रही, इतिहास-लेखन के क्षेत्र में हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन और उससे जुड़े विद्वानों और इतिहासकारों के मत और उनके योगदान की पड़ताल के साथ ही हिन्दी में विज्ञान सम्बन्धी लेखन के क्षेत्र में हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन के योगदान को भी इस पुस्तक में विश्लेषित किया गया है.

After Partition, Hindus of Punjab in general and Sikhs in particular have complained about their problems remaining unaddressed; they blame the leaders for throwing them to the wolves in their quest for grabbing power. The Sikhs have suffered the most grievously. From being rulers of Punjab that spanned from Delhi to Khyber Pass, a little more than a century ago; they have for the past two years become wanderers. Unable to call a single district of Punjab as their home. Can there be a single instance cited, where a strong and large religious community like the Sikhs lost the Holiest of its places to others? This book is a faithful account of day-to-day occurrences in Lahore and other parts of Punjab during the critical period of 1947 when the fate of India was being decided by its leaders and at a time when Punjabi Sikhs and Hindus underwent untold miseries and hardship. This book should be treated more as a souvenir of Partition than as a treatise on history. This book is being reproduced without any editing or changes.
