Purna Kumar Sarmah
The Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2022 in the Nepali language category has been recently awarded to Purna Kumar Sarmah, chief secretary of Assam Nepali Natya Sammelan. His translation of the novel 'Santanu Kulanandan', originally written by Purabi Bormudoi in Assamese, earned him this recognition. Sarmah is an accomplished author and proficient in Assamese, Nepali, and Hindi. Sarmah's achievement has been widely celebrated by individuals and organizations such as Chandramani Upadhyaya, chairman of Assam Nepali Natya Sammelan, Durga Khatiwora, Dr. Chinta Mani Sharma, President and Executive President of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, Chhatraman Subba, Anjan Baskota, President and Secretary of Freedom Fighter Prasad Singh Subba Memorial Academy, among others. Born on August 25, 1960, to Jaganidhi Sarma and Yuddha Maya Devi, Sarmah is a retired teacher and a permanent resident of Samar Dalani in Biswanath district of Assam. He has previously received numerous awards, including the Natya Bhushan title, Basudev Prasad Agarwala Kala Sanskriti Rastriya Samman, Kabi Bhakta Rai Puraskar, Madan Smarak Sahitya Puraskar, and the District Best Teacher Award in 2018.
