Dr. K. Sreenivasarao has been the Secretary of the Sahitya Akademi, India's premier Institution of Letters since February 2013. He has worked at the Sahitya Akademi in various capacities for over 25 years.

In his long and illustrious career, Dr. Rao has been closely associated with various literary and cultural organisations and has handled prestigious projects such as the Encyclopedia of Indian Poetics, the Encyclopedia of Indian Literature, the National Bibliography of Indian Literature, Archives of Indian Literature, Indian Literature Abroad and various projects related to the development of literature in Northeast India.
