Dr. Ampasayya Naveen
Dr. 'Ampasayya' Naveen is a Telugu novelist and Osmania University alumnus, inspired by his college life at OU for his first novel, Ampasayya. His novel Kala Rekhalu won the 2004 Sahitya Akademi Award. Born on 24 December 1941 as Dongari Mallaiah in a middle-class farming family at Vavilala, Warangal district, Telangana, he adopted the pseudonym ‘Naveen’ fifty years ago. Over five decades, he influenced generations of Telugu readers through 28 acclaimed novels, over 70 short stories, essays, reviews, and columns. His key contribution is introducing ‘stream of consciousness’ narration, exemplified in the ‘Ravi Trilogy’ of Ampashayya, Mullapodalu, and Antasravanti. Naveen received numerous awards, including the Telugu University Best Novel Award for Antasravanti (1994), a Government of India fellowship (1997-98), the Central Sahitya Akademi Award for Kalarekhalu in 2004, and an honorary D.litt. From Kakatiya University in 2004. He served as a jury member for Nandi Awards (2000), an academic senate member at Kakatiya University (2006-2009), and participated in international lectures in the US in 2006. He received the Gopichand National Literary Award in 2010 and was a fellow under the Sahitya Akademi Residency Scheme in 2009.
