लेखन में बीसवीं सदी से आज तक का समय यदि एक प्रस्थान-बिन्दु के रूप में लिया जाए तो यह स्पष्ट है कि इन सौ वर्षों में स्त्रियों की लेखनी में सबसे अधिक परिवर्तन की प्रक्रिया दिखी। पुरुष-लेखन में मात्र एक पात्र होने की भूमिका से निकलकर स्त्री-लेखक ने स्वयं अपनी क़लम से अस्तित्व, व्यक्तित्व और विचार को अभिव्यक्ति देना अभीष्ट समझा। प्रस्तुत संकलन में स्त्री-रचनाकारों के कोमल संवेगों के साथ-साथ आत्मसजग सृजन और विकास-प्रक्रिया का परिचय मिलता है। राजेन्द्र बाला घोष (बंग महिला) से लेकर अलका सरावगी तक एक लम्बी परम्परा तैयार हुई है जहाँ क़लम की साँकलें कहीं अनायास तो कहीं सायास खुली हैं। हर्ष और गर्व का विषय है कि महिला-लेखन अब हिन्दी साहित्य में एक सशक्त सचेत और  संवेदनायुक्त धारा है। आनेवाला समय यह याद रखे कि अपने इर्द-गिर्द खड़े किए समस्त चौखटे और कोष्ठक तोड़कर इक्कीसवीं सदी की स्त्री अपने पूरे तेवर के साथ हर क्षेत्र में उठ खड़ी हुई है। प्रस्तुत संकलन में हमें कहानी और निबन्ध, जीवनी और संस्मरण, आलोचना और विमर्श, गोया हर विधा और विषय पर स्त्री की तेजस्विता का परिचय मिलेगा। महादेवी वर्मा, सुभद्रा कुमारी चौहान, कृष्णा सोबती, मन्नू भंडारी से लेकर गीतांजलि श्री, मधु कांकरिया, सारा राय और अलका सरावगी तक अपने पूरे तेवर के साथ यहाँ मौजूद हैं। पृष्ठ सीमा के चलते कई विधाओं का मात्र उल्लेख ही कर पाये हैं। यहीं से अगले खंड की सम्भावना नज़र आती है।

राजस्थान में देश के अन्य राज्यों की अपेक्षा रजवाड़ों और जागीरदारों का ज़बर्दस्त दबदबा रहा, लेकिन जैसे ही सामन्ती व्यवस्था हटी तो औरतों के लिए अवसर आए, शिक्षा का प्रचार-प्रसार हुआ। अपनी स्थिति पर उनके बीच चर्चा व मंथन की शुरुआत हुई तथा राजस्थान की आम औरतों ने अपनी आवाज़ को बुलन्द करना शुरू किया। यह एक पुनर्जागरण की शुरुआत थी। राजस्थान में कार्यरत कई स्वयंसेवी संस्थाएँ जो औरतों के मुद्दों पर काम करती थीं, उन्होंने संस्थाओं में घरेलू हिंसा, लैंगिक भेदभाव तथा बलात्कार जैसे मुद्दों पर चर्चाओं के माध्यम से ज़ोरदार माहौल बनाया। सन् 1985 में एक महिला मेले के दौरान पूरे राजस्थान से आई औरतों ने किशनगढ़ क्षेत्र में बलात्कार जैसी सामाजिक बुराई के विरुद्ध एक रैली निकाली। मज़दूर महिलाओं को सड़क पर उतरकर, मुट्ठी बाँधकर, आक्रोश के साथ बुलन्द नारे लगाते, मंचों पर अत्याचारों के विरुद्ध बेख़ौफ़ बोलते देखकर मध्यवर्गीय औरतों में भी हिम्मत आई। अक्सर घर-परिवार तक ही सीमित रहकर शोषण व जुल्म को सहनेवाली औरतों ने भी दहेज, घरेलू हिंसा जैसे मुद्दों के ख़‍िलाफ़ उठ खड़ी होने का साहस जुटाया तथा महिलाओं पर हिंसा का प्रभावी विरोध शुरू किया। नगरीय समुदाय की मध्यवर्गीय औरतों तथा विश्वविद्यालय की महिलाएँ, जिन्होंने घरेलू हिंसा के मुद्दे से जुड़कर काम शुरू किया, अब वे महिला आन्दोलन की नेतृत्वकर्त्री बनकर औरतों के कई मुद्दों पर जमकर संघर्ष करती हुई नज़र आती हैं। एक उल्लेखनीय बात और भी रही कि राजस्थान के महिला आन्दोलन की बागडोर मुख्यतः मज़दूर महिलाओं के हाथों में रही, इसलिए उन्‍होंने कभी भी समाज के ध्रुवीकरण का रास्ता नहीं लिया। कहना चाहिए कि इस आन्दोलन का रुझान पुरुषों के ख़िलाफ़ न होकर बराबरी और अवसरों की समानता की तलाश की ओर ही अधिक रहा। ‘विविधा महिला आलेखन एवं सन्दर्भ केन्द्र’ व ‘विविधा फ़ीचर्स’, जयपुर ने राजस्थान की आधी आबादी के गुमनाम सफ़र का इस पुस्तक में दस्तावेज़ीकरण करने का काम किया है। यह केवल राजस्थान ही नहीं, बल्कि भारतीय महिला आन्दोलन के स्वरूप को समझने का एक सार्थक उपक्रम है।

यह पुस्तक लड़कियों के मानस पर डाली जानेवाली सामाजिक छाप की जाँच करती है। वैसे तो छोटी लड़की को बच्ची कहने का चलन है, पर उसके दैनंदिन जीवन की छानबीन ही यह बता सकती है कि लड़कियों के सन्दर्भ में 'बचपन' शब्द की व्यंजनाएँ क्या हैं। कृष्ण कुमार ने इन व्यंजनाओं की टोह लेने के लिए दो परिधियाँ चुनी हैं। पहली परिधि है घर के सन्दर्भ में परिवार और बिरादरी द्वारा किए जानेवाले समाजीकरण की। इस परिधि की जाँच संस्कृति के उन कठोर और पैने औज़ारों पर केन्द्रित है जिनके इस्तेमाल से लड़की को समाज द्वारा स्वीकृत औरत के साँचे में ढाला जाता है। दूसरी परिधि है शिक्षा की जहाँ स्कूल और राज्य अपने सीमित दृष्टिकोण और संकोची इरादे के भीतर रहकर लड़की को एक शिक्षित नागरिक बनाते हैं। लड़कियों का संघर्ष इन दो परिधियों के भीतर और इनके बीच बची जगहों पर बचपन भर जारी रहता है। यह पुस्तक इसी संघर्ष की वैचारिक चित्रमाला है। 

‘एक औरत की नोटबुक’ नारीवाद के एक महत्त्वपूर्ण सूत्र ‘द पर्सनल इज़ पॉलिटिकल’ (The Personal is Political) को वाणी देती है—जहाँ स्त्री के वैयक्तिक यथार्थ का विस्तार समाज की नीतिसम्मत सत्ता से जा जुड़ता है। इस पुस्तक के आलेख अगर पुरुष वर्चस्व और स्त्री सशक्तीकरण के चिन्तन को अपना विषय बनाते हुए स्त्री को उसके ‘क्लोज़ेट’ (बन्द कमरे) से बाहर लाने का प्रयास करते हैं तो इसकी कहानियाँ उस ‘क्लोज़ेट’ के अन्दर डरी-सहमी बैठी स्त्री की त्रासद दशा का जीवन्त प्रस्तुतिकरण करती हैं—सुधा अरोड़ा के एक्टिविस्ट सरोकार के साथ उनकी सृजनात्मक प्रतिभा को प्रदर्शित करती हुई। —डॉ. दीपक शर्मा यह किताब एक सामाजिक दायित्व को निभाती है। जो लेखिका पिछले पैंतालीस वर्षों से निरन्तर लिख रही हो, जिसका लेखन-स्तर अपनी स्तरीयता से कभी डिगा न हो, जिसकी क़लम की धार समय के साथ-साथ पैनी होती गई हो, और कहानियाँ लिखने के अतिरिक्त जिसकी सामाजिक चेतना और सामाजिक समझ ने उसे ज़मीनी सामाजिक कार्यों से जोड़ रखा हो, उसकी हर नई किताब अपना परिचय ख़ुद होती है। —शालिनी माथुर ‘एक औरत की नोटबुक’ का जन्म सदियों की ख़ामोशी के टूटने की प्रक्रिया से होता है। ये वे आवाज़ें हैं जो इतिहास द्वारा युगों से दबाई जाती रही हैं। यह चुप्पी जब टूटती है तो इसकी दरारों से जो सच झाँकता है, वह हमारे समाज को नंगा करनेवाला है। इतिहास द्वारा इस ख़ामोशी के जाल को निर्मित करने की एक लम्बी सामाजिक-सांस्कृतिक प्रक्रिया है, जिसके द्वारा स्त्री-व्यवहार का अनुकूलन किया गया और इस प्रकार समाज के आधे तबक़े को मानवाधिकारों से वंचित किया गया। —सुनीता गुप्ता चर्चित कथाकार और सामाजिक सरोकारों से जुड़ी सुधा अरोड़ा की पुस्तक—‘एक औरत की नोटबुक’ में धैर्य, संस्कार, विवशता की परतों के नीचे छुपी वे सच्चाइयाँ हैं जिनकी भोक्ता औरतें हैं। सुधा पहले कथाकार हैं फिर सक्रिय कार्यकर्ता, स्त्री-सरोकारों की पक्षधर। इसीलिए वे जहाँ भी जाती हैं, जो भी देखती हैं, उनका सृजनशील व्यक्तित्व हमेशा चौकस और सक्रिय रहता है। यही वजह है कि उनका विमर्श बोझिल और उबाऊ नहीं होता। वसुधा अरोड़ा कहानियाँ गढ़ती नहीं हैं, वे प्रामाणिक प्रसंगों को चुनती हैं और अपने पक्ष को मार्मिक बनाती हैं। याद यह भी रखना होगा कि मार्मिकता और भावुकता में बड़ा फ़र्क़ होता है, सुधा ने जहाँ अपना पक्ष रखते हुए अपने को भावुकता से बचाया है, वहीं यह किताब पाठक को वैचारिक उत्तेजना से आवेशित करती है। —डॉ. प्रमोद त्रिवेदी

परियों के बीच उपन्यास एक ऐसे कोमल अहसास और रिश्ते का संसार हमारे सामने उजागर करता है जिसका वजूद हमेशा से रहा है, लेकन ज़्यादातर वक़्तों में यह अनकहा और पोशीदा रहा; कई बार उसे अपनी स्वाभाविक मानवीयता की अनदेखी करनेवाले सवालों का सामना भी करना पड़ा है। दो औरतों, मशहूर तवायफ़ चपला बाई और शायरा नफ़ीस बाई के आपसी प्यार की इस कहानी में उनके कुछ मर्द दोस्त भी हैं जो उनकी मदद करते हैं। इन दोस्तों में कुछ नामचीन शायर हैं तो ख़ुद एक मर्द से प्यार करने वाला शरद भी। उपन्यास में रंगीन, इंशा और जुरअत जैसे उर्दू के कुछ असल शायर क़िरदार के रूप में आए हैं। उनकी शायरी के साथ-साथ उस दौर की कुछेक ग़ज़लों-नज़्मों और गानों का इस्तेमाल उपन्यास की ख़ूबसूरती और असर को बढ़ा देता है। वस्तुत: यह उपन्यास पूर्व-औपनिवेशिक काल के उस दौर को जीवन्त करता है जब समलैंगिक प्यार को अपेक्षाकृत सहजता से स्वीकार किया जाता था। लेकिन 1857 के बाद के दौर में उसको सवालिया बना दिया गया।

यशस्वी कथाकार-सम्पादक राजेन्द्र यादव की इस किताब में स्त्रियों की मुक्ति की राह में मौजूद अनगिनत गुत्थियों पर लिखे लेखों में अनेक कोणों से विचार किया गया है। बीते लगभग चार दशकों में विभिन्न विचारोत्तेजक मसलों पर स्त्रियों के पक्ष में दी गई दलीलों के साथ-साथ इन लेखों में बार-बार उन पेचीदगियों की तरफ़ भी इशारा किया गया है, जिन पर हमारा रूढ़िबद्ध मन सोचना नहीं चाहता। कहते हैं कि दुनिया अगर चार पहाड़ों के बोझ तले पिस रही है तो औरतों पर पाँच पहाड़ों का बोझ है—पाँचवा पहाड़ पुरुष सत्तात्मक विधान का है। आज जबकि पुनरुत्थानवादी शक्तियाँ भारतीय समाज में बड़े ठस्से के साथ घूम रही हैं, यह छिपा नहीं रह गया है कि धर्म और नैतिकता की आड़ में सबसे ज़्यादा अत्याचार औरतों पर ही हो रहे हैं। भूलना नहीं चाहिए कि धर्म के तालिबान हर युग में औरत की नाकेबन्दी करते आए हैं। इस किताब में दो खंड हैं। पहला खंड स्त्री-दासता के रगो-रेशे उधेड़ते हुए उसके ऐतिहासिक सन्दर्भों की पड़ताल करता है जबकि दूसरे खंड में स्त्री विषयक चुनिन्दा रचनात्मक साहित्य को परत-दर-परत टटोलते हुए उसकी सीमाओं और सम्भावनाओं पर उँगली रखने का जोखिम लिया गया है। पूछने को तो आप पूछ सकते हैं कि यह ‘आदमी की निगाह में औरत’ नाम की किताब भी तो आख़िर एक आदमी की ही लिखी हुई किताब है—एक और पुरुष दृष्टिकोण? जवाब में यही कहना पड़ेगा कि आइए पढक़र देखें...!

वासी जनी (स्त्री) मन का धरातल बिलकुल दूसरी तरह का है। आदिवासियत के दर्शन पर खड़ा। समभाव जिसकी मूल प्रकृति है। प्राकृतिक विभेद के अलावा जहाँ इनसान अथवा सत्ता द्वारा कृत्रिम रूप से थोपा हुआ कोई दूसरा भेद नहीं है। हालाँकि कुछ बन्दिशें हैं, परन्तु सामन्ती क्रूरता और धार्मिक आडम्बरों के क़िले में आदिवासी स्त्री बिलकुल क़ैद नहीं है। ‘कवि मन जनी मन’ संकलन में वृहत्तर झारखंड के आदिवासी समुदायों की स्त्री-रचनाकारों की कविताएँ शामिल हैं। कवियों में से एक या दो को छोड़कर प्राय: सभी अपनी-अपनी आदिवासी मातृभाषाओं में लिखती हैं। परन्तु संकलन में शामिल कविताएँ मूल रूप से हिन्दी में रची गई हैं। कुछ का हिन्दी अनुवाद है जिसे कवयित्रियों ने स्वयं किया है। हिन्दी में आदिवासी स्त्री-कविताओं का मूल या अनुवाद लाना इसलिए ज़रूरी लगा कि यह समझ बिलकुल साफ़ हो जाए कि नसों में दौड़नेवाला लहू चाहे कितनी पीढ़ियों का सफ़र तय कर ले, अपना मूल स्वभाव नहीं छोड़ता। यानी रचने का, गढ़ने का और बचाने का स्वभाव। अपने लिए ही नहीं बल्कि सबके लिए सम्पूर्ण समष्टि की चिन्ता का स्वभाव। पहाड़ी नदी की तरह चंचल, पोखरे की तरह गम्भीर, घर के बीचोंबीच खड़ा मज़बूत स्तम्भ या कि आर्थिक-सांस्कृतिक पौष्टिकता लिये महुआ-सी महिलाएँ अपने समुदाय की रीढ़ हैं। ठीक वैसे ही उनका लेखन है। वे अपनी कविताओं से विमर्श करती हैं। उनके विमर्श में वर्चस्व की आक्रामकता नहीं बचाव के युद्धगीत हैं। और है रचने का दुर्दम्य आग्रह जिसका सबूत यह संकलन
