एक बुज़ुर्ग से बुज़ुर्ग व्यक्ति। किसी भी देश-भाषा का व्यक्ति। क्योंकि इस किताब में लेखक और पाठक के बीच का पुल भाषा नहीं बनाती है। यह पुल चित्रों का बनाया गया है।
इस चित्रकथा में एक संगीतज्ञ हैं और एक उनकी स्टूडेंट है। संगीतज्ञ की मुद्राएँ इतनी अद्भुत हैं कि उन्हें कई कई बार देखा जा सकता है। किसी बार इस पर अचरज करने के लिए कि कैसे चित्रकार ने इतनी सुरीली रेखाएँ बनाई होंगी। जैसे, संगीत में डूबे गायक का शरीर खुद उसकी अपनी आवाज़ में झूम रहा है ठीक वैसी ही झूम चित्रकार को इस चित्र बनाने में मिली होगी। वरना ये रेखाएँ इतनी आज़ाद न होतीं।
उस्ताद के सुर लगते हैं तो सुर लग गए हैं इस बात जैसे विस्मित हज़ारों परिन्दे उड़ानें भरने लगते हैं। शागिर्द खुद वैसे ही सुर साधने की कोशिश में है। वह एक तरफ सुर लगाने की कोशिश करती है और दूसरी तरफ उस्ताद की मुद्राओं का अभिनय करती है। लेकिन सुर नहीं लगते हैं। सुर के परिन्दे लौट लौट आते हैं।
इस किताब के किसी पेज को देखकर हो सकता है कि पाठक को कबूतरों को आज़ाद करते हुए किसी व्यक्ति की याद आ जाए। इस किताब की मुद्राएँ सुरों को आज़ाद करने की मुद्राओं की तरह हैं।
इस किताब में ऐसी कितनी ही कल्पनाएँ करने और चित्रों को समझने की गलियाँ हैं। पाठक अपनी मनचाही गली में उतर सकता है। हर बार जब वह एक नई गली में जा रहा होगा यह किताब एक नई किताब में बदल रही होगी। और हर बार पाठक को इस तलाश का सुख मिलेगा कि कि समझ-समझ कर समझ बनती है।
