This book reads as softly as a lullaby and as provocatively as a stereotype smashing handbook. A good read for younger teens about unfair proscriptions placed on young girls and how to spot and kick them aside, step by step. “Challenging the prevailing constructs of gender in society, all the stories conclude with open-ended questions that encourage young readers to engage in thinking and have a dialogue within a peer group.” — Scroll.in “This book gives you the motivation to bring changes in society, however small it may be, so that everyone gets equal rights and opportunities.” — Hindustan Times For age 10+

Neha Singh's story shows how beautiful the world can be if we ask QUESTIONS! In our adult-centric world, the story shifts our gaze to a child. A girl asks for something basic and essential for the sustenance of the human body- A toilet, so she could relieve herself. Unquestioning and compliant adults, as one turns into after years of disengagement, have woven their routines around the unavailability of the toilets. The book manifests childhood in its essence. Meenal Singh and Erik Egerup have brought this questioning, courageous girl to life in the pages of the book. Age group 6-8 years

Age group 6-8 years

Age group 6-8 years

Sheela is any happy child growing up in Sukkur, Sind – playing with friends, sewing dresses for her dolls... She lives with her uncle whom she calls Baba, father, just across the road from her real parents. The turbulent times in the run up to Independence don’t touch her. Till suddenly, there’s Partition. The gentle unfolding softens realities of a childhood quite far removed from today’s readers. Springing from yet another animation film by Nina Sabnani, it is her mother’s own story, and she continues that connection with the choice of visuals – fragments of cloth, touches of embroidery, that tell of a life across two countries, with two fathers, in two homes.

Nahid Kazemi...thank you for making such a delightful book. The story is beautiful, but we were engrossed in its illustrations. Some old things never get old, just like this Narangi Ghar. A poet once said that the world is created every day. However, it does not get old every day. Narangi Ghar story is for everyone...whoever reads it- children or adults...just like looking at the river....children see it from their perspective, as do adults. Age group 9-12 years

Lakdi ki kathi... jungle jungle baat chali hai... are beautiful poems penned by Gulzar. Same play, tone, freshness, rhythm and a permissive language make this book. With just a few words, a whole scene is sketched for us. If the book has the light of Gulzar's words, Allen's illustrations have clouds filled with watercolours. 27 beautiful poems, with pleasing illustrations. A book that will bring children and adults on the same page.
