Sohail Ahmad Farooqi, formerly an associate professor in the Department of Urdu at Jamia Millia Islamia, is the recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2015 for his verse translation of Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali. He has dexterously translated the creative prose of Tasawwuf aur Bhakti into English, which was otherwise not that easy. Some of his other renderings in Urdu include Biswin Sadi ke Mezaj, Hindustani Falsafe ke Buniyadi Khutut, and Maulana Azad aur Hindustani Qaum ki Tamir.
