Parveen Shakir
Parveen Shakir was one of the most distinguished and popular poets of Urdu literature, who gave rise to a unique and sensitive voice through her poetry. She was born on 24 November 1952 in Karachi, while her family originally belonged to Laheriasarai in Bihar.Parveen Shakir is counted among the leading female poets of Urdu. Her first poetry collection “Khushbu” gained immense popularity upon publication and established her as a significant figure in the literary world. Her poetry beautifully and simply expresses a woman’s emotions, love, romance, pain, and delicate feelings, directly touching the reader’s heart.Along with ghazals, she also wrote free verse and maintained her distinct identity in both forms. In recognition of her literary contributions, she received several prestigious awards, including the Adamjee Award.She passed away in a tragic road accident in 1994, but her poetry continues to live on and remains deeply cherished by readers.
