Bashir Badr (real name Syed Muhammad Bashir) was born in Kanpur on 15 February 1935. His ancestral village is Bakiya in Faizabad district.Bashir Badr is one of the most popular and influential poets of modern Urdu ghazal. He enriched the ghazal with simple everyday language, fresh imagery, and modern sensibilities. He earned a Ph.D. from Aligarh Muslim University and taught for many years. He was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India, while the Sahitya Akademi and several other institutions also recognized his literary contribution. His major collections include Aahat, Aamad, Aas, Aasman, Ikai, and Image. His poetry continues to enjoy widespread popularity and remains deeply alive among readers.
