गोंड राजवंश का उदय कल्चुरियों या हैहयवंशी राजवंश के अस्त होने पर हुआ। गोंड राजवंश के प्रारम्भिक राजा स्वतंत्र राजा थे। इनके राजकाल के ऐतिहासिक साक्ष्य तब से मिलने प्रारम्भ होते हैं जब भारत में लोदीवंश का शासन था। इन प्रारम्भिक स्वतंत्र गोंड राजाओं का जीवन चरित लेखक ने राजकमल प्रकाशन द्वारा वर्ष 2008 में प्रकाशित ग्रन्थ ‘चरितानि राजगोंडानाम्’ में लिपिबद्ध किया था। करद राजाओं का जीवन चरित ‘राजगोंडों की वंशगाथा’ ग्रन्थ के रूप में प्रस्तुत
है।
इस वृत्तान्त में गढ़ा कटंगा राज्य की उन सभी पीढ़ियों के राजाओं की जिजीविषा की कहानियाँ हैं, जिन्होंने मुग़लकाल के पश्चात् मराठा काल तक राज्य किया। ये गाथाएँ मानवीय विश्वास, संवेदना और कर्मठता के अतिरिक्त चार से अधिक शताब्दियों की कालावधि में हुए मानवीय विकास की कथाएँ हैं। ये जनजातीय राजे अपने विकासक्रम में निरक्षर, अपढ़ या गँवार नहीं रहे, न ही ये सर्वथा ऐकान्तिक रहे वरन् इनमें से अनेक साहित्यानुरागी, कलाप्रेमी और समकालीन राजनीति के खिलाड़ी भी रहे। ऐसे राजाओं में हृदयशाह का नाम उल्लेखनीय है। ग्रन्थ के पूर्वार्द्ध में राजगोंड कुलभूषण हृदयशाह की दो आगे की और दो पीछे की पीढ़ियों का वर्णन है। इन सभी पीढ़ियों में उनका व्यक्तित्व बेजोड़ है।यह पुस्तक निश्चित ही न तो इतिहास विषय का ग्रन्थ है और न ही सामाजिक शोध-प्रबन्ध, अतः इसकी अकादमिक उपयोगिता को बढ़ाने से सम्बन्धित किसी प्रयास की चर्चा बेमानी है। प्रयास यह रहा है कि कहानियों में ऐतिहासिकता अक्षुण्ण रहे, कल्पना प्रसूत पात्र एवं घटनाएँ यथासम्भव कम से कम हों। प्रत्येक ऐतिहासिक घटना को अलग-अलग इतिहासकार अपने नज़रिए से देखते हैं, परन्तु कहानी में घटना को किसी एक ही नज़रिए से देखा जा सकता है, यह उसकी सीमा है और आवश्यकता भी। सामान्य तौर पर कथाओं में वे घटनाएँ चुनी गई हैं जिनसे सर्गों की सूत्रबद्धता क़ायम रहे, परन्तु साथ ही वे सम्बन्धित राजाओं के जीवन की मुख्य घटनाएँ हों।

‘द फीमेल यूनॅक’ शीर्षक से वर्ष 1970 में प्रकािशत और एक ही साल के भीतर विश्व-भर में तीखी चर्चाओं और प्रतिक्रियाओं का विषय बनी यह पुस्तक आज स्त्रीविमर्श की सर्वािधक पढ़ी जानेवाली कृतियों में से एक है। नारीवाद की दूसरी लहर की अत्यन्त प्रभावशाली कृति के रूप में विख्यात ‘द फीमेल यूनॅक’ ने स्त्री की स्वतंत्रता से जुड़े उन प्रश्नों को उठाया, जिनका ताल्लुक़ स्त्री-देह और परिवार आदि संस्थाओं में उसकी भूिमका से है।
तीक्ष्ण हास्यबोध और अकाट्य तर्कों के साथ जर्मेन ग्रीयर ने इस पुस्तक में स्त्री के सम्मान, उदात्त मनोवेगों की अभिव्यक्ति और एक व्यक्ति के रूप में उसके स्वतंत्र विकास की ज़रूरत को रेखांकित किया। दौड़ने, चिल्लाने, ज़ोर से बोलने, घुटने फैलाकर बैठने, सीखने और सिखाने की आज़ादी को अनिवार्य बताते हुए वे कहती हैं कि ‘औरत को अपनी यौनिकता को व्यक्त करने का अधिकार’ हो; कि उसकी यौनेच्छा मात्र प्रतिक्रियात्मक न हो। उनके मुतािबक़ यह सिर्फ़ पुरुषों के प्रस्तावों को स्वीकार या अस्वीकार करने का प्रश्न नहीं है, इसका अर्थ यह है कि वह स्वयं एक स्वायत्त इकाई की तरह अपनी इच्छा को व्यक्त कर सके।
दुिनया की अनेक भाषाओं में अनूिदत इस किताब ने आलोचना भी कम नहीं झेली, लेिकन आज भी यह उतनी ही प्रासंगिक है जितनी बीसवीं सदी के आख़िरी दशकों में थी। तमाम क्षेत्रों में अपनी दावेदारी सिद्ध करने के बावजूद, अभी भी यह नहीं कहा जा सकता कि स्त्री अपनी देह की मालिक ख़ुद है।
भारत के सन्दर्भ में इस पुस्तक के तर्क और भी ज़्यादा सटीक कहे जा सकते हैं।

- Description: चापेकर बंधु--दामोदर हरी चापेकर, बालकृष्ण हरी चापेकर तथा वासुदेव हरी चापेकर--तीनों भाइयों को क्रांतित्रयी कहें तो अतिशयोक्ति नहीं होगी। चापेकर बंधु पुणे के पास चिंचवड के निवासी थे और बाल गंगाधर तिलक को अपना गुरु मानते थे। आरंभ से ही उनके मन में भारत को विदेशी दासता से मुक्त कराने की दृढ़ भावना थी । सन् 1896 में जब पुणे में प्लेग महामारी फैली तो इसकी रोकथाम के लिए सरकार ने रैंड नामक एक अधिकारी को तैनात किया । रैंड के गोरे अधिकारी जाँच के नाम पर घर-घर लोगों पर अत्याचार करने लगे। इन अत्याचारों ने चापेकर बंधुओं को अंदर तक आक्रोशित करके रख दिया। उन्होंने रैंड से बदला लेने की ठान ली। एक दिन जब रैंड और उसका साथी एक उत्सव में भाग लेकर लौट रहे थे तो बालकृष्ण ने रैंड के साथी आयस्रट को तथा दामोदर ने रैंड को गोली मारकर दोनों का काम तमाम कर दिया। घर के भेदी द्रविड़ बंधुओं की चुगलखोरी के कारण दामोदर तथा बालकृष्ण को गोरी सरकार ने फाँसी दे दी। इससे क्षुब्ध सबसे छोटे वासुदेव हरी चापेकर ने अपने मित्र महादेव रानाडे की मदद से चुगलखोर द्रविड़ बंधुओं को मार गिराया और खुद भी फाँसी पर चढ़ गया। इस प्रकार अंग्रेजों से लोहा लेकर चापेकर बंधुओं ने जिस शौर्य का प्रदर्शन किया, उसने देशवासियों के मन में अंग्रेजों के विरुद्ध क्रांति की आग को और तेज करने का काम किया। माँ भारती के सपूतों चापेकर बंधुओं की प्रेरक जीवनगाथा।

- Description: Oral epics in any Indian language are generally associated with certain specific communities, defined by their traditional occupations; and the present oral epic Koti Channaya belongs to the Billava community. This poetic narrative, which records the life and adventures of the two cultural heroes of the Billava community, their yearning for cultivable land, their brave opposition to the established powerful classes, and their tragic end, is sung by the members of the particular communities called Pambada and Parava of coastal Karnataka, during the annual worship of the twin heroes. The oral epic, Koti Chennaya unravels the world of Billava community (traditionally toddy-tappers) of coastal Karnataka recording in the process the life and adventures as also the travails and tribulations of the two cultural heroes of Billava community. Most of the oral epics begin with a 'Creation Myth', which begins with the creation of the entire universe step by step, thus focuses on the legendary first parents/ancestors of the community concerned. Such a myth, besides glorifying the cultural heroes of the epic, gives a privileged position to the community by linking it with the rest of the world and gives it a socio-cultural identity. Koti Channaya also begins with a 'Creation Myth'. A recent study undertaken by UNESCO says that half of the 6,700 languages spoken in the world at present face the danger of extinction before the end of this century.
